Well, every device might need a HD webcam (I'm sure its for Teams / Hello) but I don't think that stops laptop manufacturers building in physical security over the camera does it?

Well, other than people not wanting a bulkier machine I suppose.

The HP 450 G7s have a <1mm sliding plastic camera cover.

I guess it depends - my preferred method would always be to image a workstation 'as new' rather than upgrade W10 > W11 in time.

 

I can't see how the Windows installer could differentiate at this level, so probably would be classed as a new computer.

Some of the Microsoft web pages are about what you need as an OEM if you're going to make new computers and want a Win11 sticker, not whether Win11 will install on an existing computer

My (possibly erroneous) reading of that is that TPM doesn't have to be enabled, not that it doesn't have to be there.

 

Put it another way, testing on some decent (but older) systems has yet to find a machine that passes the test. (See above)

11 has now been released on the insider preview and I'm registered for it, but 0 devices out the 700 I have on inventory meet the minimum requirements to run it, so I can't even download it :mad:. Can anyone help me out with a 64bit UK English ISO that I can tinker with as I have a couple of things I'd like to try?

Set up a VM on my Mac that has been able to install Windows 11 from the Insider Preview, don't think there's an ISO available yet though @Oaktech, but I'll see if I can find anything.

Their requirements for Windows 11 are quite insane, they're going to be walking these back quite significantly.

 

Or at least give enterprise/edu sku's an opt out.

So far my only device that hasn't been laughed out of the room is an HP x360 convertible. But the MS app claims it's managed by my school even though it's not Domain Joined and (possibly because it gets strict filtering) trying to join Insider fails. May try at home, but can't see myself getting time for a good while...

Yup... That's the only device we have on site that works, but it's the Heads 'personal-work' device that he chose to buy himself for work purposes to free up a school owned device for a teacher during the first lockdown, so I can't exactly use it for testing!

It's looking at the moment like we're another school where pretty much our entire estate will not meet the specs.

 

We have a large number of machines from before TPM was a thing, and those that may have TPM are no later than 6th gen chips.

 

I'll be doing some more research to find exactly how we can move forward

Had the same thing, had to disconnect my O365 account in Settings > Accounts > Access work or school

 

Then it worked... well I say worked, also got told to go home because of my i7-5500u.

It sounds like you have ancient hardware that should have been replaced already. You can’t really blame Microsoft that old hardware doesn’t work with modern software.

Surface Pro4 is being told it doesnt meet the specs!! - CPU listed as not compatible - i5-6300U

 

I think MS will have to rethink their hardware specs - especially for education
