Morning all. Sorry if this has been raised already, do you currently have any reliable way of reporting student device screen time? It looks like it will eventually be a metric that we will have to report - Government to review children's screen time in schools | Tes We have a BYOD scheme at the senior school, where students bring in personal devices, so I imagine would be much harder to report such data on. Internet activity can't be relied on, as devices will still ping online activity even when not actively used. Thank you.

If it’s for an IT suite, do you really need a full cloud install? Run a script that points to the install files on a file share. Mobile devices I get it, but no point going fully cloud install for static devices.

Also look at screen saver timings, as this is separate to monitor / screen sleep timings.

We have domain WiFi connected laptops, which auto sign into the same exams account when switched on to save on setup time, this is a very much locked down account. We use Multi Commander which we can run as admin to access a restricted file share where the exam papers are saved to, we then copy the exam paper(s) onto the Desktop.

Try using the windows update assistant.

We’re almost fully 25H2 with no such issues. With 23H2’s EOL fast approaching, maybe best to update?

I don’t know if that would work anymore. Collaboration is baked into Office now. Once they find out the other exam accounts, students could upload the files from the mapped drive, share the files with the other accounts and write comments to each other.

That doesn’t sound JCQ / exam compliant at all. What does the exam board recommend?

For Junior school aged students, we have a whitelist of email domains that can only be accepted. For Teams, only staff can initiate group chats with students. Students cannot create their own chats. We've blocked the various domains in our internet filtering system that Microsoft uses for personal Microsoft accounts to work, as we found students were signing into Teams with their own personal accounts to chat to themselves. Below URLs blocked for that to work: account.live.com client-s.gateway.messenger.live.com consumer.events.data.microsoft.com login.live.com presence.teams.live.com teams.live.com

In that case look at the add shortcut to OneDrive option. It’s dead simple to use, taking only a few clicks to setup, if they really want to access a shared folder from File Explorer.

Either as @DWilson1997 has mentioned, use the add shortcut to OneDrive option, as in my experience this works MUCH better than syncing libraries. Or stump up money and purchase a solution like CloudDriveMapper.

Have you blocked feature updates via GPO? Going from 23H2 to 25H2 is not a simple CU, it can take several hours to update, as I am finding out. Going from 24H2 to 25H2 is much simpler, as it’s just an enablement package that needs installing.

We’ve been having this for a while! Been driving various staff nuts. If we get anywhere I’ll update on here.

What version of EWP are you running? I think we’re a little behind, however don’t want to update now! 😂

Local profiles, everyone using OneDrive, with Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Videos are redirected to OneDrive via Group Policy. We migrated everyone to OneDrive before Covid, then switched off and deleted our file server shortly afterwards. Downloads still points to the local profile otherwise it will just eat into their storage allocation, staff know that area is not backed up and for temporary use only.

What was the last free version number? I’ll see what old installers I have, as I usually keep all the different version installers.
