Windows 11 Gpo settings and REG settings that might be useful
thimon replied to Jaan's topic in Windows 11
What’s everyone got against Edge? I’ve made it our school default browser, meets all of our needs. -
Or from here https://www.pdq.com/pdq-connect/

I was an early adopter, so get their Pro tier for around $11 per device per year. Had my technician count reduced by one this year so it’s been a real help!
-
It’s a replacement for both. Instead of connecting over the network, it uses an agent on the device. No more DNS / network issues for us! Because it uses an agent it allows you to manage devices offsite. We had a staff member in Hong Kong the other day who we could help because of it.

I’ve moved over to PDQ Connect, equally awesome. Much more reliable imo, Deploy was forever plagued by DNS issues no matter what I did.

Printing within ExamWritePad setting copies to only 1

Even if you could set that, what’s to stop the user submitting another print job? I’d say just leave it [emoji846] -
[free] 3d Printed 3.5" to 2.5" tray adapters

Nice! Back in the day I just used to tape them down… -
If you have an old free installer then that will still work. Various bugs fixes and new features are helpful. Support if anything goes wrong.

For libraries of that size OneDrive will struggle, the time you are quoting sounds about right. We migrated to OneDrive and SharePoint just before COVID, we didn’t sanitise our data and just dumped everything in a SharePoint library, something you shouldn’t really do. A work around is using a solution like CloudDriveMapper, which we use. It’s worth every penny, mapping SharePoint libraries as mapped devices. Their new v3 client is super fast!

We use Edge. Ublock Origin extension still works fine, don’t get any ads.
-
We use Jamf to manage them and they’re a doddle, don’t give us any grief. Go with it, seeing as it’s also coming from your head.
-
Can you use PDQ to help with this? We’re also looking at moving to InTune and can see we’ll need to either move away from app locker to block access to the various Office apps or use InTune’s WDAC feature. We use firewall rules to cut Edge off from the internet, which InTune also allows. Everything else we control / deploy via PDQ which makes it a doddle, we can make a standard laptop exam ready in less than 5 minutes.

Use OneDrive request files feature, paste the link for the folder into the form. The feature only works from user OneDrive accounts, so be mindful of potential lost data if that person leaves. Perhaps share their folder with other staff / a service account and setup a power automate to copy any new data to a staff SharePoint folder.

Classroom Lock Down Messaging

I cannot recommend NetSupport Notify enough. Great value for money, works consistently and their support is brilliant. Great value for money as well. -
Thank you. I found an uninstall and reinstall fixed it.

I don’t believe so. Most exam boards set a font size and spacing requirements.

Is so much nicer being in a one browser environment. Being a MS school it also kinda made sense to switch. -
On another note. The letter J doesn’t work anymore within ExamWritePad. Anyone had this?
-
I believe they have been bought out. @ass17 hasn’t replied here for a while so I don’t know if they’re involved anymore. Luckily I bought the perpetual licence for £800!

Just discovered the Narrator and PDF Reader functions. Is there any way to have different voices? We’ve just got David the robot from the 90’s available.

It's a free video platform, paid for by adverts. They can't grumble too much. -
Hi @Danny11616 Please see below what I have setup. I've cut out a lot of the text from the script to simplify it, just add more sites that you wish. Hi Danny. We were in your exact situation, I’ve got setup exactly what you’re after, two seperate policies for staff and students so they get different managed bookmark folders in Edge, applied via GPO. I’ll post the details / screenshots tomorrow when I’m back in work.

Yeah I removed Chrome from all devices years ago. Only run Edge now.
