crc-ict Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Sad news for the staff, but not entirely surprising. Misco have been on our suppliers list for a long time, but recently have been very wide of the mark on prices when we have gone out for quotes.
speckytecky Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Sad for the workforce. Misco used to be an excellent supplier but when our account manager jumped ship we followed him. 1
Simcfc73 Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I must have spent £100k with them over the years... they have a really good refurb/open box section. Went downhill when their customer services moved overseas and the telephone service sounded like it was recorded in a bathroom.
DrCheese Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 noooo I bought some projectors with them a fortnight ago that hadn't showed up yet - My account manager was chasing them. Naturally we've not paid (or will pay!)
GuyJD Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I can't say i'm surprised to be honest, every time I send an email for a quote it gets ignored unless I chase it up, add to that that they still add on a delivery charge when everyone else offers free delivery it's not hard to see why they were falling behind the competition. Misco were my go to supplier 15 years ago, recently they were just an option to get an extra quote to please the auditors.
LeMarchand Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I can't say i'm surprised to be honest, every time I send an email for a quote it gets ignored unless I chase it up Not just you!
Max_Power Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Feel sorry for the staff. They have been very good to us over the years but the hardware market is so competitive, there isn't much profit to be had in it these days so its not surprising they've gone bump and there "solutions services" they started to develop to move the business forward never really lived up to competitors who have done it for years.
chrisakak9 Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 noooo pick up many laptops and bits from them throughout the year.
simpsonj Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Damn, one of my go to suppliers... My account manager was excellent too, responded to emails very quickly, apart from this week, and I guess the above explains why
jthompson Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Oh no! My go-to supplier and first point of call for stocking up on all the little bits and bobs (audio leads and the like), as well as some larger stuff. Am sad to see them go.
PotNoodleTech Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I always had good service from Misco over the decades but over the last few years other suppliers have bettered them consistently in terms of overall (price, service, free delivery, etc). I cant remember the last order I placed with them. Clearly it's not just me! Shame to lose a big supplier, the more competition the better!
chrisakak9 Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 if you need av/pc leads give hills components a shout
TwistedHelixis Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Just sent our bursar a request to order some kit from them.
Sheridan Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 A great shame, we have used them for years as we've had good service from our account manager and generally very competitive. Ideal for a single printer, parts and general items. Now I'll have to look elsewhere!
mikeprice Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I used to use them as my goto supplier but I got fed up of silly delivery charges that couldn't be quoted beforehand and prices were often highish But they were still an easy supplier to use in a hurry shame to see them go
Blue_Cookeh Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I'm not surprised, I find smaller companies easier to deal with nowadays, it seems more personal. 1
FN-GM Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I haven't used them in years due to their delivery charges. I got a quote of them a few weeks ago and they where the cheapest but decided to go elsewhere, I didn't feel confident with them.
dgsmith Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Same as above with us - used them a fair bit in years gone by, but it was the turnover in account managers and poor communication that did it for us. Their refurb/open box section served us very well over the years, but we haven't really ordered with them for some time now. Shame in some ways, but as noted above it's an overcrowded market.
eddyc Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 This, everything I’ve asked them to quote for in the past 18 months has been almost twice the price of their competitors. Sad news for the staff, but not entirely surprising. Misco have been on our suppliers list for a long time, but recently have been very wide of the mark on prices when we have gone out for quotes.
gaz350b Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 A lot of my other suppliers will be happy. Had a very good relationship with them even when our account manager moved to higher ed only, he kept us as an account, probably due to us spending 100k a year with him most years his prices were never beaten. He was only our 2nd account manager over the 17 years.
synaesthesia Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 We always got on well with Misco, they're very local to us and our account manager was excellent. Funny though, most of our favoured suppliers ended up being mostly ex Misco staff
rich_tech Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Its not a surprise in this day and age sadly, hope the people can all find jobs elsewhere. I noticed where we work, even some of the major suppliers now have their own staff undercutting their "Gold Resellers" to have us deal with them directly on gear, its getting to the narrow end now that "Cloud Cloud Cloud" seems to be the mantra everywhere.
Sylv3r Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I used to use them years ago as I liked the fact they had a webstore. Haven't used them in a long time - since the smaller companies have started to be able to get better prices - probably with a lot less overheads.
bclarke Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Such a pity. Had a very good relationship with my account manager for years. Bought loads through them and they had good contacts with big manufacturers. Always had free next day delivery too which was always useful. Had to log on to my old Insight account today to order something instead, haven’t ordered from them for years as Misco were so good.
