Password Management

Hi All,

 

Just wondering what options you can recommend for management of passwords for IT systems service accounts (switch passwords, AD accounts, cloud logins etc etc).

 

I'm currently holding some in a Password Management app and others in a Password protected spreadsheet. I'm looking for a single easily updatable but secure solution.

We use this too. It also keeps a history, which is very useful.

It depends on your requirements tbh. Keypass is very good but we use Last Pass Enterprise to share common logins as you have the ability to access it elsewhere and manage the accounts properly (and reset forgotten master passwords) and use 2FA.

They now have a Business packages as well as Enterprise but I have not looked at it yet. If you are just sharing in the department internally Keypass is probably ideal though.

Lastpass Enterprise is OK. The admin console was a bit ninky nonky but they seem to have revamped it of late. It makes sharing passwords much more secure, in situations where you're forced to. Edited December 10, 2016 by tom_newton

We use the free version of Password state. Quite good, can be a bit counterintuitive sometimes and you can make it web available if you want. Free for up to 5 people.

A question for all who have responded to the OP. I'm left wondering why there are several companies out there providing Free products that are used for this important task - what do they get out of providing a Free system?

 

A system that after all has to be of the highest security standard to function properly so not a cheap system to develop.

Why is LastPass mostly free?

I remember all of my passwords.

I do backup all saved browser passwords to encrypted storage for when I have a blonde moment.

 

Same except no backup! If i die the passwords die with me!

Lastpass Enterprise for us globally we used it to replace KeePass as that had its downsides such as people over-writing the shared database and not synchronising for example....

 

Another that a company we bought uses is PassPack which also looks quite nice and from cost seems cheaper than LastPass Enterprise

Well for Lastpass the master password and encryption keys are never actually stored on their servers. Encryption and decryption is at device level. LP never have access to your data so yeah I'm cool with that

With KeeWeb/KeePass, they are just clients. So you have total control over where your files are stored. Keep it local on a network share or, or in the cloud with Dropbox or Google Drive
