Good afternoon all, We are in a position currently where discussion is taking place with regards to moving all our services into the cloud. This includes servers, telephony, MIS and all data etc: 1. Has anyone out there gone completely cloud based and if so what have you considered to be the pros and cons in doing so. 2. How did the transition go and do you have any recommendations on what to adopt and what to avoid? 3. Are there additional cost implications over that of having an onsite setup? 4. What additional training requirements would you consider to be useful prior to, during and after successful transition? 5. Are there any systems that you simply would not put into the cloud? 6. How do you deal with legacy applications or is it simply a case of finding more up-to-date or appropriate cloud based applications? 7. Have you had to deal with downtime through internet outages and do you have built in contingency for this? 8. What, if any , are the security vulnerabilities you have experienced either during the setup process or whilst in full operation (ie cached credentials, theft of devices etc)? 9. Are you using MFA and if so how is this being handled by staff and students are they easily following the guidance These are just a few of the many questions we will no doubt have but it would be good to touch base with a School/College/Academy that has gone down this route already and is willing to share their experiences with us and perhaps even meet for chat about it, preferably on your premises so that we can see it in action... We have deployed Office365 to our client computers via SCCM using the Microsoft Office Deployment Tool (Server 2016, Windows 10 (1903)) ADFS is in place and is working fine. We have the adfs\services\trust\13\windowstransport endpoint in place. We are operating this under the Shared Computer Activation option which we have embedded into the xml for the ODT We also use roaming profiles, so to combat the size of profiles on a desktop we ensure that these are cleaned at the end of each day or when the user restarts the computer. So this would be the process: • user signs on to the pc • user launches office and it signs in automatically and generates the office activation tokens and places them in the appdata\local\Microsoft\office\16.0\licensing folder • User signs off the PC • PC is restarted • The profile is then removed as mentioned above • User then logs back on and is then forced to sign in to Office365 regardless of ADFS It seems clear that the tokens being removed when the computer restarts is causing the issue. Consequently, as it no longer has a token, Office365 requests reactivation. This issue is further exacerbated with Shared Computer Activation in that it will also not work for a student using this computer for one lesson then signing in during another lesson on a different computer as the tokens would remain on the initial PC (or not at all if restarted). This brings me to the desired solution which is that the tokens need to roam with the individual's roaming profile (or a share that is recognised by Office365). A further problem exists in that folder redirection only works via group policy for the appdata\roaming and not the appdata\local where the tokens are stored and therefore when this is used the tokens are not roaming with the profile. Has anyone else had any issues with the constant requirement for Office365 Activation and if you have resolved it, what was it that you did to remedy the issue. I've been looking for so long now I think I'm just seeing mist and maybe can't see the woods for the trees!

Created a Windows 10 - Customizations Group Policy Created the .xml file and moved it to Netlogon Used the create folder option under Computer Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings >Folders Used the replace file option under Computer Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Files identifying the locaton in Netlogon for source file and using the above folder location for the destination Assigned the Group Policy to the OU of affected computers.

I got around the issue of overwriting by adding the following at the start of the script get-childitem e:\backups -include *.BAK -recurse | foreach ($_) {remove-item $_.fullname} It removes all *.BAK files allowing them to be re-written. Works a treat.

Hi, the script works great in terms of running and processing the bak files to the specified location and have it working as a scheduled task. The script itself doesn't overwrite the files if they already exist in the backups folder. What exactly do you do in this case to ensure that you have the most current set in the backups folder. Essentially what I'm looking to do is to create a backup set in a folder called backups that updates at a set time daily. At a later time on that day we will then upload the "backups" folder to the cloud containing the latest backup copy. I suppose I could also add a line to the script that deletes the files prior to the backup starting, any ideas on how you would do this? Chris

Can you confirm that you run this as a vbs script. I've just run it and it faults with error 1 line 1 (invalid character) 80DA0408

@Boredguy When you run the script for your database files does that overwrite any previous .bak files within the d:\backups folder or do you manually remove the old copy first?

Hi I'm looking for a vbs or a PowerShell script that will allow me to backup both SIMS and FMS databases into a bak file. Does anyone have anything like this available. I don't really want to use a batch file for this. Many thanks in advance Chris

Trying to install impero on Mac and while the install goes fine, when logged on as a student account I receive the error You don’t have permission to use the application “ImperoClientTray” While I can see that this is a permission issue relating to the student account preventing it from appearing in the top bar I'm struggling to find out how to resolve this. Has anyone else had this and what was done to resolve it? The Macs are domain connected and currently running Mavericks. thanks Chris

Hi, is anyone using Micro$oft IT Academy? I am looking to start with this but want to know what the cost of the examination packs are for students. You can buy them with the Volume License purchase. However if you try and ask Micro$oft in advance of enrolling on the IT Academy they won't tell you. You have to first subscribe and then they will tell you. I need to be able to budget for the costs of the exams so if anyone out there is using this could you please give me some idea as to the cost of the exam packs. Many thanks

Is there anyone using any form of document management systems for letters etc with a view to trying to reduce the amount of paper in the workplace. I'm attending a webinar a week on Tuesday that is previewing such a service. I'm not sure how effective it is but looks good and as we use them for our Print management solution I thought I would share in case anyone was interested.
