They wrap things up nicely enough, leave plenty for season 3 and set up the "Pike and Spock have adventures on the Enterprise before Kirk shows up" spinoff which should go a long way towards pulling things together in a way that feels more like TOS.

 

I'm looking forward to that. Pike and Spock were among the best parts of S2 of Discovery and Number 1 was criminally under-utilised. Strange New Worlds has a lot of potential and I'm hoping like hell it doesn't get squandered.

It's a great series! There's a LOT of worldbuilding to do so the first series is a slow burner, but they do a pretty decent job of realising the books on screen.

Series five is a belter (pun accidental I promise)!

 

One of the better Scifi showsfor sure.

I don't know, there's something about the Expanse adaptation that doesn't do it for me. I like the books a lot and there are a couple of the actors who I think play their parts well (Naomi Nagata and Chrisjen Avasarala) but I found it hard going.

 

The one that really gets me is Amos. The books describe him as a man mountain, hard as nails, completely badass and intimidating to look at. I always pictured him as looking a bit like Jayne from Firefly. The guy they got playing him... well he's not quite at the level of Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher but he's going down that road, if you see what I mean.

I totally agree that the books are FAR better, Eros in the first book is magnificent. In the series it doens't have the samre impact for me.

Amos has grown on me. In seasons four and five he nails it I reckon. Before that he didn't fit my image of him.

I'm not sure about Naomi. My problem seems to be that she bails out any time she's required to speak belter which makes her pretty unconvincing.

The lady playing Avasarala has nailed it, though! Even if she uses less expletives than in the book!

Series 5 didn't pull me in like the others.. it did feel like it was limited due to Covid but that might be because I was expecting so much more.

 

Don't do reading so haven't read the book.

The Walking Dead is back!! It had gone off a bit but the new episode seems to have returned to an earlier and more understandable time

The Terror (as the box set) Episode 1 done, 7 more to go.

Watched the first 2 episodes of The Terror on BBC 2 last night - was really good. Although there are 10 episodes.

Just finished Cobra Kai S3

 

Just finished this too. Generally loved it. but was a bit put out by some of the "We can swear on Netflix!" dialogue. Also, whilst it's realistic to have baddies that aren't totally bad, this is a show that has a character doing leap kicks not long after a spinal injury; there is no room for realism in this dojo! I did find it odd that that Tori only got a few minutes of back story, but Kreese is getting some extended flashbacks - unless they have plans for a bigger big bad. Maybe Hilary Swank's character has turned to the dark side?

 

Still, they finally got to the point that we all knew they'd eventually get to and, much to my relief, Johnny didn't mess up his burgeoning relationship. Hurry up Season 4!

WandaVision was great. The last episode did devolve into the usual CGI-mind-lasers--comes with the territory, I guess--but also managed to slip a philsophical conversation into the midst of all that, and was generally speaking an excellent exploration of grief and loss. Hoping it is a one shot and they use these series to round out characters who don't necessarily get as much screen time in the films, fill out the universe a bit more than cinema run time allows.

 

Falcon & Winter Soldier next, which, eh, I'll give it a shot but I'm not currently that excited; but then it's Loki... :evil_twisted:

Just binge watched Schitt’s Creek which was wonderful. Unfortunately I also watched the behind the scenes programme where everyone involved came over as self involved and smug. Kinda spoilt the show a bit for me.

 

Just starting on Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. So far it’s just hilarious and bang on my kind of humour.

 

Also started Superstore with mrs_sparkeh. Not sure how well known this is but seems like a hidden gem on Netflix.

Watching the Fall on netflix as I've never seen it before

 

Just got to season 3 episode 1 and throughout that episode I was bombarded with medical terminology and acronyms - is this what we sound like to non IT people ?

 

Also was Jamie Dornan contractually obliged to get his top off every single episode ?

Me and the missus finished it the other week.

 

We had to taskmaster between episodes as its so miserable.... Although what did I expect

Grace [Catch up via ITV Hub]

 

About an hour through the first episode. Warming up nicely (except for one aspect of Grace's methods of investigation but as that could be a spoiler, I'll stop there)
