We have just finished the box set of Baptiste (Series 2)

 

 

 

 

Series 2 began its run on BBC 1 on Sunday 18^th July at 9pm. There are six episodes in the series, each an hour long.

 

If you liked the series 1, I think you will also like series 2.

 

 

Yup - we are watching that - very good so far - but then the cast looks good which is normally a good sign

but then starting from such an excellent start point - why just change everything

 

Vetinari could be female - OK - but why

and if you are going to do it keep the whole point in him/her - it seems to be missing

the characters (apart from His Lordship) seem to work in a separate place to TPs ideas

 

but then it tries to invoke Him at time

still good/great as a fantasy series - but tries to be Pratchett - then tries to be different

I thought Cheerie was a dwarf (all-be-it a quite large one), because of the whole beard thing.

Overall 'The Watch' is getting better as we progress

 

but still sooo far below the books

I know books cannot translate directly to a screen

but making ot totally different but with the skeleton of the plot and the same names of characters and each character is kind of a much different version of the original

all makes it a bit disrespectful

 

 

as a series it is good

 

but I feel they just wanted to change everything to make it their own

 

so they have missed opportunities to be PC and gone overboard with making other things PC

 

and several critical character are missing

 

We just need Sergeant Colon and, of course, Nobbs

 

I just feel it would have been better to include them rahter than miss them out

 

(although what or who could be cast a Nobbs is a query????)

Once we'd accepted that it wasn't 'The Watch' (tm Pterry) ; we quite enjoyed it. Bits still niggled, but over all, a good effort.

Every version of literature is altered to fit the time it's made at the medium in which it's presented, just be happy that Pratchett is now up there with Shakespeare.

Finally started Nightflyers on Netflix.About 1/2 way through and so far the cheesy 1987 movie is more faithful to the novella, which was very claustrophobic and had a small set of characters. Presumably because it was envisaged as an ongoing series, the show meanders quite a lot; the novella would be best suited to a film. Now, a Fevre Dream limited series would work marvellously in the right hands. Also not sure why Royd is called Roy, unless they were worried that he'd be assumed to be a (ste)roid addict. That said, Mlle LeMarchand, who hasn't read any GRRM, is enjoying the show.

A little while in you get to see the captain's quarters where a portrait of his mother hangs. The portrait looked amazingly like Josette Simon (Danya from Blake's Seven). I was kinda surprised when the character showed up, played by Ms Simon - and amazed that she barely looked 4 years older, let alone 40!

Might have just spent most of my week off on leave binge watching The Rookie via the Sky Box sets. Actually quite funny for a police show

Lighthearted for the most part but that makes the serious moments have more impact when they occur.

Typical Nathan Fillion fare, but that's by no means a bad thing.

Completely barking mad and brilliant at the same time! Roman era Britain with magic and insanity...I suspect it may not be to everyone's taste.

It’s not normally something I’d watch - but I enjoyed the first two series. Even if a bit strange at times!

Finished Nightflyers. Anyone interested in the synopsis should read the novella. GRRM fans should re-read the novella. Anyone interested in completing a "100 things I learned from..." in record time should watch the show. Please don't let any of the showrunners/scriptwriters near Fevre Dream.

"Normal People" on BBC3

 

Really enjoyed this. Yes it does have some nudity in it, but the storyline is great. Took me back to being at school and lifes ups and downs.

Currently, box setting "Secrets of the London Underground" (Yesterday via UK TV Play. Tim Dunn and Siddy Holoway look at the history of the London Underground. Series 1, 6 episodes. Episode duration: 50 minutes.)

Binge watched Clickbait on Netflix this weekend - probably one of the best Netflix series I've watched in a while! Highly recommend
