When you run an Excel report without a user template attached, it uses Reportdata.xls to create the output. If you create your own template by modifying the code in a copy of Reportdata.xls and then attaching that to the report, when you run the report it creates a copy of that template and calls it Excellist.xlsx and uses that instead of Reportdata.xls to create the output. With both methods the data that is output is stored in a text file called Reportdata.txt. You can test your Excel template by putting it in a folder alongside the Reportdata.txt that has been output when running the report (make sure you take a copy immediately after running otherwise it may 'disappear') and then opening the template. This will also allow you to step through the code to see if something is causing it to error or shut down. In fact this method makes it much easier to modify and test the template without constantly having to keep attaching it to the report in SIMS and re-running it.

It's weird, we spend a good part of the weekend just watching the live stream of the queue filing past the coffin - it was strangely comforting, fascinating and rather hypnotic. The cameras always seemed to be on the lookout for scouts and anyone in uniform (particularly those with medals and/or a military beret). Am quite missing it now

Sorry I cannot answer Q1, but yes to Q2 - I used it a few months ago for a SAR and found it extremely useful, much better than a Sharpie and paper copies! You first mark the text and/or whole pages for redaction, but it's not until the next step that it actually carries out the redaction, so you can save a copy in between. It also lets you move pages around easily, add a watermark, page numbering etc. I also added blank pages between each document or email trail to make it easier to manage (as they were all combined into one long file).

Is the report a predefined one supplied by ESS? Capita training data for many years included year groups with 2 spaces after 'Year'. If they created a report and left the tick in against one of these, then it would retain that when imported into your SIMS reports.

Covid must be giving similar symptoms to flu in those cases - the one time I know I had flu, I couldn't get out of bed for a week and everything ached, including my teeth.

Having just finished the last book (Leviathan Falls) in the Expanse series, I understand why they stopped it where they did, but think that introducing Laconia at this late stage was a bit pointless and must have been confusing for anyone not familiar with later storylines. It does point to possible episodes being made in future though I guess.

The ICO have just published updated schemes on their website regarding the information that schools and academies should make available (either on website or copy on request) under Freedom of Information. It's about time, as the previous scheme for schools was dated from 2013. Some 'interesting' additions - more on data protection to be made available, in particular DPIAs and policies around data protection and data retention. The one that surprised me was CCTV - it says 'Details of the locations of any overt CCTV surveillance cameras operated by us or on our behalf'. Isn't that helping anyone who wants to break in? P.S. Although the ICO's website has really useful information, I have a real issue with the fact that they don't actually tell you what's been updated and when, which means you've no way of knowing what has actually changed in the text or in documents. This actually goes against their own advice on having document control in place for policies etc.

Just wondering how those who have moved away from SIMS to a cloud based MIS have coped with continuing to access the SIMS data. Presumably not all the student info is transferred - there must be many leavers going back years whose data still needs to be retained but wouldn't be transferred over? How do you handle access, or do you export as much info as possible out and store it that way?

So what happens if a school has gone ahead and asked for consent for all sorts of things they didn't need to - the ICO say that once you have used consent as the lawful basis you can't usually change it to a different lawful basis?

The latest guidance from the ICO says: "In what format should we provide the information? How you do this, and the format you use, depends upon how the requester submitted their request (ie electronically or otherwise): If the individual submitted the SAR electronically (eg by email or via social media), you must provide a copy in a commonly used electronic format. You may choose the format, unless the requester makes a reasonable request for you to provide it in another commonly used format (electronic or otherwise). If the individual submitted the SAR by other means (eg by letter or verbally), you can provide a copy in any commonly used format (electronic or otherwise), unless the requester makes a reasonable request for you to provide it in another commonly used format. The GDPR does not define a “commonly used electronic format”. However, this means the format in which you supply the requester with their personal data. When determining what format to use, you should consider both the circumstances of the particular request and whether the individual has the ability to access the data you provide in that format."

I'm assuming that apart from perhaps forwarding the email to parents, schools don't have to take any official actions for reporting this to the ICO themselves? Although Wisepay is a data processor in terms of information passed over, wouldn't they be the data controller for any transaction data entered on their website, which this presumably relates to?

Displaying full names on websites or social media is VERY different to displaying within school. I also think the answers you get from the ICO very much depends who you happen to get on the helpline/chat. If you use the live chat, you tend to get generic copied and pasted answers, whereas when you talk to someone it can be more nuanced (although they still tend to sit on the fence). Lawyers never agree either - some say get permission for every photo no matter where shared, but one said, no you don't need consent at all, even on website, social media etc.!!

A school has had this email from Wisepay today: Data Security Incident – WisePay Platform We are writing to confirm the details we know so far about a security incident that has affected the WisePay Platform. As you will be aware, the website is currently offline. On Monday, 5 October 2020, we became aware of a cyberattack that appears to be a URL manipulation that spoofed the SagePay payment page. We immediately engaged a leading cybersecurity forensic agency and we will provide any required notifications of their investigation, together with specific details of affected transactions and individuals who attempted to make payments during this period. We understand the incident began to adversely affect the website on 2 October 2020. It looks like at some point you've right clicked on a heading and selected Customise text. Go to Tools > Setups > User Options and change Screen Labels back to SIMS default (will likely be set to User customisation).

So when you bring up Find, have you tried clicking on Options to see the further options and choosing Values instead of Formulas?

I saw Tenet on Sunday, and would give it 7.5/10. I wanted to enjoy it more, as I do like Christopher Nolan films, but the mind bending plot plus the fact that some of the dialogue was inaudible (to my aged ears at least, but my daughter said the same) spoiled it for me a bit. It definitely needs one or more repeat viewings - with subtitles switched on!
