Not on PC though

Probably going to have to buy a console to play it

I bought an Xbox One earlier this year, with RDR2 being one of the reasons... Then it got postponed. And I imagine RDR2 will be designed with the Xbox One X in mind, rather than the older models.

There's two of those :p the S8-whatever (I just call it the '5-shooter', as opposed to the '2-shooter' shotgun) which is pump-action and the SKS which is semi-automatic and has a magazine.

SKS is a sniper, S12K is the shotty :D

You know what, I know that. And I know I was thinking about the S12K when I posted that 'cause tbh I'm not really a fan of the SKS.

So why I typed SKS is beyond me

Started Okami (was going to use the Move, but CBA). Hoping I don't have to sit through the interminable intro again.

What a game. Played it through on PS2 in about 2011. Has dated very well - looks good and plays better. I think I put about 75 hours into it and I'm normally a quick fix gamer.

Forza Motorsport 7 released on Tuesday, and I've been playing it on my PC thanks to this Xbox Play Anywhere thing. I haven't played much, but it looks and feels really good on the PC! Had the game freeze and/or crash a couple of times, though.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Open Beta today :) I'm honestly not going to spend today in work just watching gameplay footage....

Oooooooh, I'd almost forgotten about that! I'll have to check it out later, as long as my friend is open to trying that rather than playing Divinity 2...

if its like horizons 3 get used to that i dont think i managed to play that for more than 1/2 hour without it bombing out.

This is the first forza since the first one im not getting (at least anytime soon) fh3 just burned me bought £80 version they release £20 of dlc not included and tbh most of the dlc included arrived after id stopped playing it. From what i hear theres micro transactions in 7 and theyve changed vip (though are planning to change it back one day) and locked cars behind grind walls etc.

There are many.

Also, do you remember how you could turn off drive assist to earn more credits?

Well you can't do that any more. You can still turn off drive assist, but it won't get you a reward.

You have to spend credits on loot boxes 'prize crates', which contain 'Mods' which modify the conditions of a race and net you a +x% bonus.

Also to pad out the loot boxes 'prize crates', there are tonnes of driver skins (most of which are just recolours of each other) to make sure you don't get the stuff you want. You know. Driver outfits. For the driver. Who sits in the car. So they've plastered your driver all over the menus now to make it seem like it's not a massive cash-grab but it's totally a massive cash-grab.

:censored: gambling in :censored: full AAA-priced games.

I expected some issues, since I had problems with FH3 too. FM7 seems much better, performance wise. They just need to work on the stability...

As for the VIP thing, I think I read something that they're going to reverse that decision. I didn't really give FM5 or 6 much of a go, since FH3 had already released by the time I got an Xbox One, so I'm not 100% sure on what VIP was like before, although I had VIP status for FM3. FM7 has those loot boxes and cards that *every* game seems to have these days, but I've not yet been asked to pay real money for anything, and I haven't even noticed an option to. You just buy the boxes out of your in-game credits that you earn from racing, and they seem to be relatively reasonably priced. I haven't played enough to understand all of the systems yet, in all fairness.

I do agree with Garacesh that driver skins are completely pointless, though... I think I'm just going to avoid the loot boxes and mods and just buy the cars I want. :D

Always worth pointing in mind* that games with gambling added in are balanced around that gambling being an available option. Yes you can earn the stuff with in-game dosh just from playing but the game is still balanced around trying to make you want to open your wallet again. You probably won't ever be explicitly asked to pay (maybe the occasional 'We're having a sale!' popup, though). But the pace of the game is crafted in such a way that the things you want are harder to earn simply because they want to push you towards the gambling side of it. Earning CR will have been nerfed to that 'sweet spot' where it's just slow enough that you might earn that car from races, but you're tempted to outright buy CR to get those engine parts you need.

* Pointing in mind? Bearing in mind, or pointing out, not both.

Very true! I'm not keen on this particular trend, either. It seems like every AAA game these days has something like this. It's part of the reason I wish I could get rid of my Shadow of War pre-order... Or maybe I should learn not to pre-order games anymore. :p

i wonder if games that have gambling and can take real money shouldn't all be rated 18 and have gamble aware warning on the box/adverts and when you digitally buy them they need to explicitly state it and have to accept it before payment. You cant go to a bookies before your 18 why should you be able to gamble real money in say overwatch at 8

This is a discussion that comes up a lot in gaming circles and it's one I pay particular attention to.

The caveat is that you're guaranteed to get something out of them. It's the same reason those 20p-turn-a-dial-get-a-toy vending machines aren't gambling. Same reason companies like LootCrate et al aren't gambling either. Gambling, it seems, operates on a boolean Lose Stake/Win More basis.

With companies like Valve it's on shakier ground because there's a possibility that the item you have does have an actual monetary value (with Steam Market being a thing). That's why they had that genocide of CS:GO/DOTA 2 gambling websites a while back. I think that's a factor of why a lot of games have no function to trade between players (the other factor being it drives more gambling sales.) With no way to off-load the items you 'unbox' they get to argue that their digital unlocks have no market value and that pushes them a little further away from the idea that it falls under gambling.

As far as I'm concerned it is unequivocally gambling, and these games are often marketed at teens that have A) Poor impulse control and B) Addictive personalities. Plus it takes a big fat deuce on anyone that has actually suffered a gambling addiction in the past because it's locking them out of most big-release games. It's just shady as all hell, tbh. Though even if ESRB et al got their head out of their asses and called in gambling and slapped an 18+ sticker on the box I don't think that would change much. Grand Theft Auto taught us all that game ratings mean zip.

incase anyone is interested ghost recon wildlands is free this weekend so im going to try the pc version out of curiosity before going back to the xbox
Posted

OK so tried the PC version of ghost recon over weekend on my laptop. WOW it looks so much better (now granted im comparing a launch style xbox one to a laptop with a 4k screen i7 and gtx 1070) the draw distance is miles better and 60fps at 1080 or 30 at 4k, with vsync enabled no tearing (though i managed to reduce that on the xbox to minimal by turning off smoothflow on the tv) and it just looks so pretty. Since going back to the xbox version (i dont want to redo 30-40 hours of game play) ive noticed things i diddnt before like texture pop you look at a field say and suddenly theres the grass etc. Now granted i only played the pc version for maybe an hour and i played with controller (to some degree to play as like for like as i could and because i dont really want to go back to mouse/kb) but even though the game crashed once and i think that may of been because i changed way too many options at once i preferred it on PC.

This leaves me with something to think about.

option 1 do nowt and live with it lol

option2 I imagine going forwards an xbox one x would actually solve a lot of these issues by being about 4x as powerful and i can simply swap the cables over in my entertainment centre with minimal effort but its still an xbox and can only run xbox games.

option 3 I could just plug in my laptop but that would require unplugging something else and probably a lot of faffing round with cabling and i cant leave it there 24/7 so a bit of a pita.

option 4 i could build a gaming rig but that would require a major amount of faffing with the entertainment centre (though i could remove my nuc as i dont need 2 pcs on 1 tv really) i would probably physically have to move lots of stuff unless i can build the rig into a desktop case rather than a tower i could probably leave the xbox where it is for older games but most xbox exclusives come crossplay so i can play on pc opens up steam to me as well

i think im leaning towards option 2 as frankly it the easiest option and short of doing nowt an xbox one x is probably going to cost less than 1/2 as much as a decent rig

HDMI hub/switch and long cable?

If you don't have another spare HDMI port on the TV, put a good HDMI switch in as LeMarchand suggested, and have your NUC connected to it as well so you know that to view PC input it's always on HDMI port X and just press the switch button to go between laptop & NUC. Unroll the HDMI lead as required.

Building a good gaming PC into a desktop case is possible, but you would be looking at £500-£600 and depending on what type of games you like the Xbox One X might be better

tbh it would be easier to upgrade my amp to one that supports 4k and has more inputs and ideally one on the front (needs doing at some point anyway as i want a 4k tv but need a 4k source before its worth the effort then need amp/tv so it gets expensive lol) i supose i could unplug the wii-u or these days tbh the digi box as i dont watch much tv. trying to work out whats actually plugged in to the 7 sockets i have (3tv 4 amp) tc digi box/blueray(region free)/wii-u. amp nuc/xbox/switch/ps4

i priced it up at nearer £1200 as i dont really have anything i could reuse i might get away with a psu/case from my old (core 2 duo) but the case has seen better days doors have been pulled off i dont think its usb3 probably will nick its dvd though because why not and possibly one or more of its hdds

for reference entertainment unit
