Oaktech Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Nope, because I rather think anyone who responds will be taking the opportunity to grind their axe while people who are perfectly happy will have no compulsion to respond. 4
ccadit Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 isn't that true of all surveys though??
simpsonj Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I borrowed the survey put up by @bossman Three questions, essentially asking to be rated on Response time, Professionalism and Quality of work. Not sure whether to embed the link at the bottom of our Spiceworks support tickets, or to fire it out once a year to all staff in an email.
HTCPCP Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 We did once, and the hate that came in about how some things were never done (like filling the printers with paper) or that we didn't fix issues immediately (or had to wait until parts arrived) before the fix, and that was very bad - Projectors were a major gripe, as was the fact we took printers away from departments.
hardtailstar Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I wouldn't do it as most will be responding to issues out of my control.
synaesthesia Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Yes. Out of nearly 200 staff we had about 5 responses.

bossman Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 @ccadit: Too many questions for staff to be bothering with so they won't fill the survey in, Here is a finished adobe form from a questionnaire which is live and attached to our closed tickets reply so the staff receive a link in their closed ticket reply. I did use to have numerous questions but from experience I learned to keep it short and simple which I feel is best and you do get the staff responding once they realise it is in their best interest.
Disaster Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 We had one done for our caterers, which I thought would be the perfect time to explain that; they do their best with the stuff they got, but the food is rubbish (everyone thinks this). But everyone responded saying it was fine! mental! (|I don't know if anyone saw my thread which showed my "chicken wrap")

Arreks Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 @@ccadit: Here is the live form format: I like it! what did you make it in out of curiosity, Dreamweaver?
bossman Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 @Arreks: Adobe Form Central but I have moved it to another https://www.cognitoforms.com/ its all free unless you use charging for any element of your forms. Excellent products but unfortunately Adobe are closing down their online forms solution in July this year. 1
gaz350b Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 When we do a survey we mirror the ofsted scoring system. Teachers seem to understand this! We also have a form linked in tickets when they are closed
pete Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Yup. Responses (30-40 of ~120(ish) staff) were overwhelmingly positive. 3 Questions (with suggestions of how to reply): 1) How are we doing? What do we do well, what works for you and why? 2. How can we help you? Areas you may wish to tell us about... what could we do better, what difficulties or frustrations have you experienced with software, equipment or specific locations? Do you need any training to use our software or hardware? 3. How can we support curriculum development? Areas you may wish to highlight could include... good practice you have seen, planned changes for your subject, changes to the way you will deliver teaching or the way that you work in your department. The survey was via SurveyMonkey and was anonymous (though depending on how detailled the response, some staff outed themselves). It was useful for us and encouraging and we've changed a few things around as a result.
Pyroman Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 A previous "boss" of mine (IT coordinator, wasn't my line manager) did a survey on my behalf (I never asked them to) and only passed back the bad comments to me. They wouldn't let me look at the surveys myself (incase i tried to work out who was who) and it was generally a slagging off of IT. 0/10 would not do again

truebluesteve Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 We have done a couple over the last few years and while they can be useful they can also be great for those people with an axe to grind. One comment we had was "I wish the IT department put as much effort in to their work as other departments" - which while being completely unfair had quite a demoralising effect on the team, and it took me a while to persuade them that it was a one off by someone who didn't have the courage to come and complain to us in person. In the second survey the questions were drawn up by the Head/SLT and sent out on paper! So much for technology!
MartinT Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I did one recently to our students. Many were positive but one whole year group obviously have a grudge and we got comments like "they block everything" and "they never fix anything" which was frankly quite demoralising and got my team's backs up as they often bend over backwards for the students. It's a double-edged blade, for sure. Set the questions carefully if you want useful feedback.
jslate1980 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Funny I spent my time at CCAD as a design student before getting in IT. But that was in the days when they had just purchased iMac G3s :-)
