Norphy Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them at the weekend. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Better than the Harry Potter films I've seen anyway.

Its been a long time since I've laughed so hard at a film. I'd even go so far as to say the plot, what little as it was, kinda spoiled it. make with the explosions and one liners. 1

Plan to catch it when it turns up on one of the movie channels.
LeMarchand Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 The Babadook Oneof those films it's hard to talk about too much, but suffice to say not what I was expecting from the trailer and as a consequence I didn't enjoy it. Had the trailer been more honest I probably wouldn't have bothered (not my sort of thing) but I can see why people might like it.
LeMarchand Posted May 22, 2017 Author Posted May 22, 2017 Some bad language in trailer. Keanu Quite amusing, even if most of the best bits are in the trailer. A pleasant enough time waster with a surprisingly (slightly) realistic ending. Plus Keanu is very cute.

Followed that with Independence Day: Resurgence which is a terrible film, have added it to the long list of sequels that should never have been made...

Maybe I wasn't in the mood for this, but I found it a bit disappointing. That said, the Laika team should do a good job with Philip Reeve's "Goblins". Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge Lots of fun but suffers from the current blockbuster malaise of being too damned long. One or two sequences should've been cut. I'd suggest the "jumping between the 2 ships" bit near the end as it was too dark to see what was supposed to be going on anyway.I was wondering why one character seemed to have been forgotten at the end, but it turned out the answer was "drama". flyinghaggis Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) Saw Wonder Woman at the weekend. Both myself and my friend though it was pretty poor overall. The plot is incoherent and overly drawn out to fill the entirely unnecessary 140 minute run-time. The dialogue is mediocre and the 'fish out of water' humour falls flat most of the time IMO. I guess the action scenes are generally quite well done though the end fight/battle degenerates into the standard CGI fest complete with the usual clichéd ending! I really don't understand why everyone is raving about it and the reviews are so high? It's not a patch on the Marvel movies in general or anywhere close to the standards set by the recent Nolan Batman movies. Edited June 5, 2017 by flyinghaggis
Norphy Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Not that I've seen the film but I think that compared to the recent DC Extended Universe movies (Man of Steel, Bats vs Supes, Suicide Squad), it's supposed to be a lot better. I certainly know that the two Superman movies can only be improved upon...
