  1. We are another establishment suffering proxy conflicts. Ours picks up one from NT days. Searcht find where it's coming from. For those afflicted a log off and log straight back proxy that GPO is meant to be pushing out.
  2. We have set up an old PC with a fresh copy of XP and added the GP Editor on that but even with that set up the culprit still isn't visible.
  3. This is one that's been giving me great grief as well. We are a W7 Server 2012 Environment and since migrating from Server 2008 to Server 2012 increasingly and for some bizarre reason clients have sporadically been picking up a proxy setting that seems to lurk somewhere on our system from the days of NT. Logging off then back on again brings up the correct proxy but causes a heap of frustration.
  4. Recently we have been asked to renew an annual support contract for Smart Notebook. I wasn't aware we had a contract and had assumed that the Smart Software that came with Smartboards ran for the lifetime of the boards. What's the score on this please?
  5. We have a Maths teacher who is asking how he can open a file with a ggb extension. I can see from a search that this is some sort of Match programme but can't see any software that routinely handles it. Any suggestions please?
  6. Had something similar on a Brother. that turned out to be it needed the Drum unit replacing.
  7. I had a frantic call on my mobile - don't ask from a member of staff who is away on a course complaining that on opening O365 they saw that their Inbox had vanished. My immediate thought was that the folder had been inadvertently dragged and dropped by them into another folder but I wasn't able to explore at the time as I was replying having pulled into a layby. A further message a while later saying that they had opened it again and all was normal again. Any further thoughts on what may have happened would be welcome fellow Edugeekers.
  8. I'd like to get in touch with anyone who has successfully migrated a Sophos EC to Sophos Central / Intercept X in the SWGfL filtered area? As it's Security could any response be via PM, please?
  9. I've been asked to research and purchase a couple of laptops - or similar kit with software for use by a small number of year 9 students who have learning difficulties. These lads have issues with writing and we are looking for ways to engage them through ITs. Perhaps a word based product that can either be dictated to or can identify words phonetically. Any suggestions, please?
  10. Over the years our Domain has been migrated several times and is now on a Server 2012 R2 box which shares the DC role with a Server 2008 R2 box. Whilst on the old Server 2008 Standard box which was the main DC we had instances where Staff, and only staff, users were picking up a proxy that the original people who set the domain up probably used at another school (St.Marks.proxy....). Recently, more and more staff are being hit by this wrong proxy issue and it now prevents Internet access. We have searched high and low to try and discover where this errant proxy setting is being populated from but so far with no success. Is there any software tool available that might aid our search?
  11. Did that sort it for you @OllyM We had a similar issue with a Windows 2008 file server. We got round it by giving full permissions on the local machines Windows Temp folder.
  12. Good luck. Done.
  13. I've found a driver on the Lenovo site that seems to work perfectly it's hswn03ww.exe It was listed for a newer Thinkpad.
  14. Thanks @caffrey having experienced major issues with Lenovos in the past even just on trying to flash the BIOS I tend to steer well clear of anything to do with that nowadays. It just annoys me massively that it seems Lenovo fail to provide a complete update option for the OS. On the other hand I upgraded an Acer laptop today and that went from 7 to 10 seamlessly.
  15. Thanks @Norphy the preinstalled OS was W7.
  16. Today Iv'e been setting up a test Windows Lenovo X121e 64 bit Thinkpad. All seems to have gone well, but unfortunately the Lenovo support tools from their support site don't give me a download option for a wireless driver.
  17. I have to say that I was amazed once I had the right ISO haw quick and smooth the install was. Next a bit of head scratching to get the right GPO templates installed to trial it on the Domain. Any tips welcome.
  18. Figured it out myself (many will no doubt be muttering "For a change"!). It's Microsoft working with Donald Trump toward Worldwide Domination. It seems that even though the English Language originated in England Microsoft in their infinite wisdom have decided that basic English is actually North American. For us English people (or in my case Cornish) we now need to select English International.
  19. I've just downloaded and built an ISO of 1067. Trying to install it on a 64 Bit previously W7 laptop the only option for install language is English (United States). The choice options for UK are there for Tim and currency format and Keyboard input method. Surely this isn't right? ISO Downloaded from my Volume Licencing Portal as per usual.
  20. I'd recommend Admiral as well. My now, 22 year old has been with them a few years now and has one of their black box policies. She had a junction incident a few months back where the driver in front 'unexpectedly' stopped and my daughter just clipped the rear end of that car. Barley a mark on my daughter's car but enough to register on the black box and Admiral rang her straight away to ask if all was okay. The driver of the other car was behaving very suspiciously and without even trying it said the boot of her car was jammed. The other driver took details but said nothing about claiming or otherwise. Transpires that Admiral have now investigated and the other party look likes it's trying to play a fast one. So, I for one highly recommend Admiral as I'm not sure other insurers would have persued the case as well.
  21. I'd give Sophos support a call. I have found them incredibly helpful in the past and as they are capturing you from one of the biggies I wouldn't be surprised to find they are very keen to help you as well. Is it the terrestrial or cloud version you have been given? Ours is currently the Enterprise Console but I'd love to move over to their cloud based version to take advantage of their Intercept X anti ransomeware tool.
  22. I'd say yes it is. I completed the Cyber security course with a pass rate of 93% and wee I a heap younger than I am I'd defo be buying a certificate to add to my qualifications. Being an OU certificate and current it's worth the £60 or so they are charging in my opinion and they have to try and reimburse their costs from somewhere upon the line.
  23. Linky not working for me?
  24. A question for all who have responded to the OP. I'm left wondering why there are several companies out there providing Free products that are used for this important task - what do they get out of providing a Free system? A system that after all has to be of the highest security standard to function properly so not a cheap system to develop.
  25. Updated to it yesterday and the only issue encountered so far is it doesn't like running out MSIs. Ran out Flash Player 24 yesterday and it totally balked at a full roll-out. Ended up doing it in small batches and still then it was making the Console PC hang every time.
