New to deploying W10 in a school domain and I'm trying to restrict the likes of X-Box running. I've seen and tried the very helpful suggestions elsewhere on this Forum about using Powershell and scripts to remove the Apps but haven't had a lot of success doing that. I saw on another Forum a post saying using: 'Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Store 1. Disable all apps from Windows Store - This turns off the launch of all apps from the Windows Store that came pre-installed or were downloaded. Apps will not be updated. 2. Turn off the Store application - If you enable this setting, access to the Store application is denied. Access to the Store is required for installing app updates.' would achieve the lock-down. I duly pasted that admx file into our Policy folder but when I subsequently tried editing the Group Policy an Administrative Template Warning box popped up telling me that Encountered an error whilst parsing. Resource '$(string.RequirePrivateStoreOnly)' referenced in attribute displayName could not be found. Subsequently, I restored the original Store ADMX template in the Policy Store and now Group Policy seems happy again. Any thoughts please on if using the lock down described above would actually stop the students using X-Box etc.? and why would the 1709 version of the Store ADMX template create the error it did?

An update on this one. Apologies to @Passat1983ICTech I never got back to answer your query. No splitter it was VGA but now we replaced that connection with a brand new HDMI. It's on the 1024 x 768 resolution. Yesterday I bit the bullet and replaced the bulb and filter but the Teaching Staff tell me it continues to suffer this flicker which comes out intermittently at the far right of the screen. Puzzling or what?

Yate based ComputerWorld offer a massive range of services to schools now including O365 Migration and Training. I've attended several of their superb seminars in Bristol and were I in control of my budget I'd certainly be exploring some of their services. We were lucky as back in 2014 a wonderful chap called Andy Ratcliffe worked with me in migrating us from Easymail to O365; unfortunately, Andy no longer seems to be available to the education World.

Last time I asked our Apple Account Manager they were offering a circa £70 trade in (as long as it was sound).

Thanks, given above to @sted for posting the PS Script he developed. We are rolling out some out of the box new Dells and I'm very much a newbie to PowerShell - any chance please that someone could give me a pointer as to how to adapt the script and get it to run so we can be rid of X-Box ect.

Of course, Amazon is always tempting isn't it but for me, I'd rather not place business with them that could be handled by a British based company that doesn't have the tax issue associated with it. That said their set up is certainly very good and with Prime swift delivery but my Account Manager at Higate usually is able to better the price and doesn't charge us delivery either.

Also Higate our account is ex Misco and always goes far more than the extra mile to get us the best deal. Invariably next day delivery as well. Please PM me if you want his contact details.

I'm not using an ISO but using an in-place upgrade to 1709 on some new Dell laptops that we purchased with W10 preinstalled. Being a PS novice what would I need to adjust in your PS script to lock our machines down please so that the various apps are no longer available, please? it

Apologies @laserblazer I'd missed your requests for info completely I have a feeling that in the end our Teacher used their initiative and planned a different lesson.

Jeepers! I'm now so glad that the Dell PC our F&BM uses failed to update to W10 from W7 recently - the pre-upgrade check reported there'd be a graphics driver issue on the year-old Dell if it was up[graded to I held fire.

Can you also confirm please that by using the 1709 update it will cover the aspects that have been added to the previous variants 1607, 1703 etc.? We are now progressing to W10 deployment for student clients so it's all a heap trial and error at present.

Please, forgive me if this seems a naive question but I'm sort of new to ADMX templates on Server 2012 and would love some enlightenment on the deployment of the Windows_10_Fall_Creators_Update_1709_ADMX MSI. I've downloaded the MSI on our DC and ran the install but for the life of me can't see where it deployed to - it's not showing up in Group Policy Editor. All I want to do with it is close down the likes of X-Box and Skype so don't really want the full shed load of policy options clogging up the system and making slow logons.

We are on 2012 but the WSUS on that decides to stop every couple of weeks and only comes back live after a server restart.

We recently had an outage issue with our FTTC connection's onward link into the school - Cat6a External PE cable; which unfortunately has to traverse over a flat roof, was damaged and therefore took a fair bit of tracing to discover when it went down. We don't currently have any failover for this whatsoever and wanted to plan for a contingency to fix that situation. What would folk one here recommend as the way to go that's not going to cost silly money, please? [h=1][/h]

Well worth the thank you I have just given you I hope @nikta I'm not sure I'm on the same page (different Dell PC, the model I can't recall just now) but I tried an in-place upgrade from W7 to W10 and it failed on this very issue so I'm hopeful the linky you posted will be the one I am also needing.

Having supported the National Lottery for a major number of years I've been happy to part with my pound or so in the knowledge that there's been a kick back into grassroots and development sports funding. Recently I've seen an academy status school receive National Lottery support to fund the refurbishment of its flat roof - I can't get my head around that and it doesn't feel to me to be using the Community Benefits arm of the National Lottery for what it was intended?

That said it distresses me to find that on occasions we seem to be ordering from the tax dodging mighty worldwide online supplier whose name I won't mention as no doubt they would be very litigious, now - Grr!

Nay, it's Higate and they don't add a delivery charge on ours either. They never, ever bombard us with either pamphlets nor e-mails and our superb account manager responds anytime of the day or even evening if we seek a quote advice or information. Prices are rarely beaten by other suppliers, goods when ordered often arrive the next day. Outstandingly brilliant service.

My regular account manager - jumped ship from Misco a while ago did us a nice batch of 32GB Duracels at a tenner each recently. We'd previously had Toshiba drives but found them a tad less reliable. As with just about everything nowadays unfortunately the Duracels kit is proudly stamped made in China. Please feel free to PM me is you want my account managers contact details. Only trouble I find with Hills is once they have your address they bombard you with cataloges! I'd mention my present superb supplier to who my former Misco account manager moved but I'm still furious that someone on Edugeek gave me a neg rep and reported a post to the Mods as I'd posted a hyperlink in a reply to a company that doesn't advertise to the forum, was that REALLY necessary I wonder?
