Anyone got a useful update on this please; our Impero update fast approaches and I'd love to be able to compare the various features and try and assess which of the available products is likely to offer best value to us. The main features of Impero we use at present are: WOL - a lot, with scheduled shutdown as well. Monitoring and filtering - limited access of this to non-tech staff as the teachers who had access kept getting in a pickle. Was using the MSI distribution feature for the likes of Flash update but in the last year or so that's not worked at all well and resulted in failed updates but also console lockups.

I might be a million miles off target with this answer but my suggestion would be eyesight. I wear varifocals and have regular eye tests but I know that if it comes to terminating a cable end it's time to call for the 20 20 vision and steady hand of my buddy the site manager.

Coming to this thread fresh today two questions spring to mind. Did you try Spiceworks - with any success. If there has been no map left then it's likely that there hasn't been any 'management' activity on the switches either and they are still holding the manufacturer's default passwords?

@hardtailstar I share your pain - and I'm sure many others here do as well! I had an encrypted 32 GB Toshiba USB thumb drive that had some data I needed on it. I'd always been careful in safe removal but one day it gave up the Ghost. Sadly I'd been a numpty and didn't have a backup of the data. I'm living without it okay is the good news! Being on school holiday now I was watching a bit of daytime TV - an episode of the great Southern Irish production of Red Rock - made me laugh to see them watching CCTV footage off thumb drives on one PC then, just pulling the drive without safe eject and plugging it in and going again with no data loss on another PC. If only life was so.

We had a similar issue. Ended up setting full access to Users on the Windows\Temp folder that resolved it.

As stated above responsibility for the timetable is usually a few pay grades up the scale - in my experience Deputy Head level. Our school outsources the Nova T6 to Dave Marlow at Timetable4U our DH feeds changes direct to them.

@DaveP well done for avoiding the spoilers! Ch4 add insult to injury by running their adverts during this one whereas the usual spot on coverage has been ad free for the actual races. Then F1 wonders why their screen viewing fanbase slides!

Flipping annoying when the excellent F1 coverage on Ch4 isn't live - I guess that the race today was sold to Sky. I really love the Ch4 coverage of F1 but find it even more annoying when the BBC news page carries the result as a main headline way before the Ch4 highlights are run - Grr!

Hopefully, the SWGfL /RM folk who visit this Forum have taken note?

Superb, thank you duly, given, @paulellam It sounds to me like RM had a rather; dare I say it, an unfair set of feedback on this thread. The product sounds to be just what's needed. Today I had a really reassuring conversation with one of their support crew as well.

Hey up @RM_Broadband your useful post was posted over a year ago now. Is there update, please? Having been told by your UK based Support Team that UBF would achieve all our goals in an easily carried out process, I'm currently in the process of trying to set up SWGfL UBF but can't say I'm either finding the process easy to understand or achieve and the feedback I'm getting from this and its more current sister Edugeek internet-related-filtering-firewall thread is in the least encouraging toward UBF and quite frankly at the moment, I'm wishing I'd explored other options more deeply.

SWGfL Support is aware and working on the issue. I had the following from them on 21st June 2017 "We are still working on this issue. we will let you know when we have more information for you".

I've just received the following message from an MP friend: "There has been a "significant" cyber attack on the parliamentary e-mail system so I.T. security have shut off access for the time being" Somehow I'd assumed that of all places the IT Security for Politicians would have been the bee's knees with nuts and bolts as well as bells and whistles on!

ComputerWorld provides training including on O365 - having attended a couple of their hosted events at @Bristol I imagine it is excellent.

If you have Impero or similar you could pop it in the No Internet default Group.

Not so many decades ago it would have been an easy task. You'd just go and see the person and politely point their music was loud, ask them to turn it down please and almost for sure they would do so. In angry 2017 though the chances of them kicking off about such a request are much, much higher and could easily lead to confrontation. If they are known to be approachable just politely ask; otherwise contact your Council's duty staff and ask them to do something about it as chances are you are not alone in complaining. I have a similar irritation come hot summer evenings where some folk feel it's okay to light up a garden bonfire and don't give a rat's ar**e about the fact that neighbours have windows open and don't want their house stinking of smoke. I posted on the Town's Issues FB page when this very thing happened recently. Not long before the resident Trolls were out accusing me of being a moaning git not having anything better to do with my time than moan!

The sender probably didn't know there was that option - hands up - I didn't until I Googled it today! Anyhow, chances are some would have opened it prior to the recall being sent. Good blog about that here.

That's odd. When I had 1605 on a number of clients I was getting that exact same error. Doing an in- place upgrade to 1703 so far the updates are rolling out fine. I'd also found that with 1605 Central Sophos wasn't automatically starting; even when logged on as an Admin. I needed to tell the system to trust the publisher - each time on a fresh logon. With 1703 that's not happened.

Thanks @CadlaM (Colin) Trying both direct and WSUS. Proxy is fine and working for the Internet we are behind the SWGfL Firewall.

We have been running Windows 10 EDU 1607 on a few machines and it's been well received but recently it's refusing to update. Tried all sorts from various forums to no avail in trying to sort this. Today I've run an in place upgrade to EDU 1703. All looked like it was going well and everything completed fine but trying to run updates yet again they fail with error message 0x80244022. I guess others folk have encountered this issue - has anyone managed to resolve it yet please?
