Getting an iPad to print to a Dell 1350 CNW
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks for that. Something for me to explore next time I pop around to that particular aged persons house. -
I'm finding Senso pretty clunky e.g. I'm currently trying to pull up a thumbnail view of a staff member's laptop and even though my Broadband is pretty nifty it's not happening. Plus the procedure for applying updates is not in any way smooth to work. Senso did mention to me that they anticipated the product would have added features including WOL by the start of 2018. That's not happened. Meanwhile, Impero really seems to have upped their game, in particular, they have some superb support staff who are fabulous to work with.

I'm having problems getting a new generation iPad to print to a Dell 1350 CNW printer. An old Windows laptop prints to the Dell fine and the printer spits out settings okay including IP address. The inbuilt print option on the iPad doesn't pull up the Dell as an option. Going to the Apps Store most of the other printer manufacturers offer a free App but there doesn't seem to be one from Dell. Any recommendations or suggestions, please?

I'm a treasurer for three separate organisations. The constitutions of each are very restrictive in that for payments out two signatures are required - one being the treasurer unless unavoidable. I think that's going to need to change as we move forward. I also receive a lot of payments from the membership as cheques. Our problem going forward is the fact that so many bank branches are closing. A friend who is a treasurer of a cricket club told me recently that in his pretty busy and bustling Garrison town both HSBC and Nat west have recently closed their branches. As his club banks with HSBC he now needs to arrange for the bar takings etc to be deposited by someone visiting one of the two towns circa 20 miles away.

Home network issue - I think. EE Broadband. Progressively found over the past few days that we are having a browsing issue. Two Windows 10 PCs patched up to date and a W7 PC as well. Browsers hanging. Now only able to run Google searches which bring up correct results but clicking on those URLs has no effect. Reset browser. Reset router. Ran netsh windsock reset. Seems to be okay on Apple devices. Any one else having similar issues and also has anyone got any suggestions as to what to try next please? Edited in. On my W10 laptop I've found that the CMD won't now open either but PowerShell is okay.

I'm running W10 1709 on a school laptop I use for working from home. Google Chrome has been my preferred browser and has been working fine until about a week ago. I kept having to run the Chrome://Flags routine to Enable / Disable the Rapport aspect that has been known to create problems. Having had to do that several times I took the plunge and upgraded Chrome to V: 63.0.3239.108 and after the restart had all sorts of issues. In a nutshell Chrome seems to be causing the whole laptop to lock up. Eventually I had to do some netsh work and finding Chrome was still being a total pain have now reverted to the horrid Edge Browser which several web sites I visit don't like! Anyone else having similar issues? Our AV / Security package is Cetral Sophos with Intercept X.

SWGFL User Based Filtering
speckytecky replied to Theldron's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
One of the reasons we switched to SWGfFL's/RM's UBF was to enable certain management staff to have access t the likes of LinkedIn and Twitter from their mobile Apple devices. Personally, I'm delighted with the way our filtering now works - it's doing a great job and was actually easier to get in place than I'd first envisaged. However, if I set sslfilter.userproxy.swfgfl.org.uk:8080 as the manual setting with authentication and populate that in the settings on a mobile Apple device it fails and I have to revert to sslfilter.proxy.swfgfl.org.uk:8080 for the member of staff to succeed in connecting to the wider world. Has anyone else using the sslfilter.userproxy.xxxx.org.uk proxy succeeded with mobile Apple devices and if you have how did you achieve it, please? -
I'm told that the Devon County Council IT offshoot SCOMIS has a very good rep for both services (which include SIMS) and cost.

Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware - What do you use?
speckytecky replied to Nausing's topic in Enterprise Software
Central Sophos with Intercept X. Delighted with the support and overall experience so far. -
@Steve21 thanks for raising this extremely useful thread; it's a subject I'd felt I was well, well behind the curve on and I'm heartened to see others seem to be in the same canoe! Thanks also to @alfatec (PM'd you) and @danrhodes for your offers above. As an aside, it's interesting to see the level of Governor involvement in your IT.

Thanks, @free780 Do you happen to have a link on how to set that up, please?

I've carried out both an OS replacement to W10 and upgrade from W7 on a few clients now and found that post the install/upgrade WOL isn't working. I guess I need to change something in the BIOS but haven't a clue what it might be?

Despite the fabulous help given here I was struggling to set this up so, on our Admin page sent a support request to Microsoft. The response was prompt and superb. Today they ran a remote session for me and walked me through getting it active. That's what I call first class support. 10 out of 10 Microsoft.

Thank you fabulous fellow Edugeekers for your superb replies. Unfortunately, our current A1 subscription doesn't have the Encryption available. I raised a support ticket with Microsoft and had an almost immediate response. Subsequently, I've sent a message to our software supplier seeking a quote for a limited number of Azure RMS licenses.

Wow, thanks for the help. It's fine for me until I get to chose to Encrypt the message with O365...... and that option isn't there?
-
Thanks @timbo343 How to set that up, how to restrict that to users selected by the Admin and being a new area for little OLD me how would it work for un-encrypting at the intended recipients end?

I've been asked to look at setting up a dedicated email account specifically for the Local Authority formal consultations with our school and specifically how easy/difficult it might be to make it a 'secure' account toward obviating the need to password protect all of the documents that flow as attachments. On the latter my gut feeling is that password protecting the documents would be a minimum but better still employ encryption proper - but how? We are on the free for education variant of O365.

[1709, fcu] Stopping Apps with Windows Store in Group Policy
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Windows 10
Thanks, @ADMaster sadly I'm not Imaging currently - it's not in my current skill set but something I'd love to master. Server 2012 Domain so hopefully achievable? -
Strangely we had the same issue on some W7 machines and had to restart the PC then log in as the same user again and it was okay. Touch wood, it seemed to sort itself out in the end.

[1709, fcu] Stopping Apps with Windows Store in Group Policy
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Windows 10
Thank you @ADMaster I've got a mix of machines that I've in place upgraded to 1709 plus out of the box Dell laptops pre-installed with W10 Pro. It's not really an error thing but trying to achieve a global lock-down on all of them with the least input. Using the excellent script files provided on Edugeek works for my own login on single machines but then logging on as a student the X-box etc remains in place. We tried globally inserting a previous set of ADMX templates but reverted them as the whole lot sitting in the Policy folder seemed to be creating slow logins. I've not tried SCSCM - maybe I need to man up and get my head around it?
