Thanks, @MkII I'd assumed the in-school Timetabler had done that before mentioning it to me. Just checked NovaT6 runs fine - they didn't even have a Dataset loaded!

Any advice on where to go with Timetabling now we have migrated to Hosted SIMS would be very welcome. Our issue is we have an external timetabler who in the past has sent us the timetable as a file which we imported into NovaT6 and then one of the admin staff did a bit of magic and populated our students to the appropriate classes and all went well. Sadly, that person is no longer on the staff and no one else currently has 'the knowledge'.

My local Nat West had a 'new' internal ATM installed recently. I visited the bank today to pay some cheques in and was surprised to see this new machine being promoted by one of the staff who usually provides superb counter service. There was a pretty big queue and customers were being steered toward the new ATM. Unfortunately, the machine and unexpectedly ate one customers cards and the member of staff had to get it to return the card. The next customer successfully paid cash in. Next I was funeled toward the machine. As the account I was paying into is a society account no card so the member of staff keyed the details in for me and fed the paying in slip and cheques in. Next the screen displays a flashing message - checking deposit, please wait or something similar. That went on for about three minutes. Next the ATM reboots and low and behold up pops the Windows XP logo! I knew that Microsoft had an arrangement covering ATMs but thought that had expired long ago. After all we have moved through Windows 7 and various to Windows 10. I wonder when the banking industry will catch up with technology?

Big list of odd things about me but I guess one of my earliest differences was passing my driving test (on a tractor) when I was 16 years old. Then again, being diagnosed as dyslexic when I was in primary school but not being told about it until I was 42 years old is a difference that had I known about it earlier might have made a major difference during at least my 23 years in the Royal Air Force Police!

We had a similar issue with seven year old Toshiba Sat Pro C660 D's. BIOS Supervisors password set and working fine but some 'clever' little Herbert managed to get past it and add a HD password. Effectively making the MB toast without the HD password. Tried swapping out the HD and running a fresh install but still the old clunker now nags for a HD password.

I must admit that the article leaves me a tad confused. Is that saying that KB4103725 (Windows 8/10) KB4103727 (Server 2016/2012) KB4103718 (Windows 7) are actually okay now then?

Any sign of Microsoft withdrawing the offending updates and reissuing fixes I wonder/

Wow, @jenhet, I wonder how many other schools are in the same position? Your job there sounds doubly difficult and I'm left wondering if they have allowed you to advance from Server NT and Windows XP yet as well!! Seriously there are, as ever, many fabulous answers here that point us all in the right direction. Reading through them I'm left wondering about a chink I see in my own school's GDPR armour; that being Governor's email. When the fabulous Andy Ratcliffe set up our O365 in 2014 we added all Governors and the Clerk as addresses and duly let them know they had the addresses but to date, they have steadfastly refused to use them.

Wish we had the budget to do so. I get the drift though - in fact, we do have several Epsons here that are circa 10 years old and a bit dim but still working okay.

So, a birthday board with names and months defo wouldn't be a good idea anymore - if ever it was, then!

Great ask @hardtailstar I'd love one as well. I get fed up with saying O365 can do SO much more than just e-mail and receiving a glazed expression back - usually followed by 'my old school had Outlook on an Exchange server and it was really easy to use'!

In the past I'd bought 32GB Toshibas but had a couple of data loss disasters and other issues with them so Mike at Higate recommended and supplied 32GB Duracell devices which were both reasonably priced and also do the job with Bitlocker superbly. I've not tried them with Macs.

One of our Smart IWBs started doing a strange thing this morning. When the teacher logged in and started working with Smart Notebook the programme seemed to take over her mouse making it uncontrollable and all it was doing was repeatedly creating a sort of splash mark on the screens much like you'd get if you threw a tennis ball into a pool. I've swapped the workstation out for another also with Smart Notebook installed and that's doing the same thing for this teacher. Odd or what?
