Got a strange one going here. A suite of XP Pro Fijitsu Esprimos with MS Office 2003 installed. Everything runs fine on all the suite except one PC which on students attempting to run Publisher crashes that workstation. I have carried out a complete removal reboot and fresh install but the problem persists?

Sims server currently backing up to DAT72 - current data close on 37GB takes 4 hours to backup and system protesting!

That's a good thought Steve - what do you reckon it would take to set it up and what sort of price would the kit be? The 2 schools I work at are about 100 metres apart.

Crumbs - £8K gulp, the chap who mentioned it to me was talking in the lowly region of a couple of hundred quid!

Did you crack it? I have run similar files from my user file - just firing the bat file up from the individual workstations.

What do EduGeekers think about schools running remote back ups to data centres. At first sight it seems to have advantages in many ways: data encrypted, remote from school, saves IT staff the pain when current on site backup systems fail! Anyone using this service at present?

Creating a backup media set - Backup Exec 12.5
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in How do you do....it?
Think I have cracked it now:D For anyone else seeking an answer to a similar question the following might be useful. First moved existing back up tape set from AdminBackup media set into retired. 1. Inserted a new tape / to device and right clicked it / to inventory and run. 2. Back to media to check it had appeared there in Scratch. 3. Back to Device / right Click / rename. Did 1, 2 and 3 for all new tapes then moved the whole lot to AdminBackup folder. -

Projector bulb exploded - What do I do?
speckytecky replied to JJonas's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Obviously not under warranty? The reason I ask is the bulbs for the Epsons we have are a shed load of money and we recently had a new replacement Hitachi for one that came in at just over £400. Our Epsons are 7 years old! -
I'm looking for recommendations for good Datalogging software for KS2 students. The LEA SOW recommends Data Harvest's Easysense or Sensing Science. We have the Data Harvest kit but it doesn't seem that popular. Googled sensing Science and I can't see anything useful about it. Anyone using something different that you would recommend for KS2 Datalogging?

We have Smantec Backup Exec 12.5 set up on our Admin Server 2 years ago (Dat 72 Tape drive). It's now refusing to run the job - media set too old. I have a new set of 10 tapes but am not sure how to create them as a media set - not understanding what Scratch Media is about for example and totally confused over append periods. Looking at our existing set we have ten tapes, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 1 - 2 - 3 and 4 and month 1 and month 2. The existing set looks like it's all overwritable and not appendable. I'd really welcome advice on the best way to create the media set if anyone could kindly give me a pointer please. Perhaps it's a coincidence but the backup has not been happy since a local IT company installed a Door Fob Security System in the school over the summer putting Net2 Access Control on the Admin Server - since then when the bu did run it came up with about a dozen exceptions pointing to Net2 and some MSQL files.

Does anyone use Microsoft Access for KS2 database work - personally I have never got my head round the programme but teachers ask me to recommend good database software and it seems the natural choice?

We have an Admin Server running Symantec Backup Exec 12.5. The tapes have been going for about 2 years now and I see a message coming up on use reporting that the tape is nearing the end of it's useful life. What seems to be happening is those tapes are being moved from the In use area of the library to Keep Data Indefinately - Do not allow overwrite. Is this something that automatically happens with 12.5?

Three minutes walk to either of the 2 schools I support! -
First I have heard of this new system - they don't seem to have asked either of the 2 Wiltshire schools I look after about it yet? Can you post up more details or PM me about it please.
