Depends on where in the country you are. Kevin Carter of Capita set up my last one and did a perfekt job - I't didn't break the bank either. Had to book him through the Capita system.

Reviving this thread as they now want a replacement for an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 - something like it for the best GCSE photos to be printed on proper Photo Paper.

I'm trying to set up some windows 7 PC's for use on our Server 2008 domain. Bit stumped trying to find where I access All User / Desktop settings? Currently all users are picking up things like the MS Office 2010 trial.

Another vote for Syncroneyes CNet have it on a 30 day trial from this link. Be interested to see a price comparisum between the different systems?

I know the OP wasn't asking specifically about rechargables but I was getting batteries from a dedicated battery supplier but they stopped stocking CamLink my favorites I now get them from Amazon - CamLink rechargables are in a class of their own holding a 100% charge and lasting for ages.

Probably of no help but I had a similar situation recently. The teacher in question kept coming to me saying here files were missing. Strangel I found that she was putting the notebook into hibernation - this occasion over a weekend! Doing a restart and all the files mysteriously reappeared;) Otherwise sounds like a job for Diskdigger

Much as I thought nowadays - almost everyone see it as the responsible way to go to apply the updates and try and build in a time delay toward hope that any broken updates are fixed before they hit school systems. Second line chap I spoke to might be right in his experience that sometimes updates create problems but on the ground techy experience and common sense dictate that it's best to apply security and criticalupdates at the very least.

Sadly some parents use it as an extended childminding service and don't seem to care what their children do after school as long as they are occupied. Having said that I run both a KS1 and KS2 club and try to give those attending something worthwhile to do. We have the excellent Sherston Megadeal package and it's usually a good opportunity to get them exploring various components from there. Our KS 1 / 2 music coordinator is currently looking for a reasonably priced bit of kit for recording classroom music activity. The current Coomber CD / Tape deck is no longer recording. Any suggestions please?

Apologies if this is posted to the wrong thread but I'm trying to figure out what the current thinking is on server updates. Running a lone vanilla DC et al currently on Windows Server 2003 R2. In the past I had a 2000 server go up the creek on MS updates so have since been very cautious. However, in recent years my confidence has been restored and I have been thinking that if the updates are released then they need applying - I usually leave a week or so before running them. Speaking to a first line tech at the Server manufacturer a while ago he told me it was healthy to restart servers fairly regularly so running updates has usually tied in with a restart. This week our server picked up a couple of updates (Net Framework 3.5 and a general security update) but they failed to apply. Seeking help First line encountered the same problems I had and passed me to one of their software second line techs. This very helpful chap figured out the updates were not after all needed. (Of course he pointed out the wisdom of only applying updates after testing them on a non critical machine - wish I could). He then amazed me by telling me that many organisations that have a decent firewall never apply the regular updates only applying them at SP stage. In his opinion the updates were only really useful for organisations that have public facing servers and often for them the updates are too late anyhow. What's the general feeling here?

Thanks for the replies Stevo1565, Penfold, Graham Reed and The Librarian. I think it's 3 out of 33 workstations in the Suite, DNS doesn't seem to be an issue. Your Linky and workaround applied on one workstation now Penfold to see if it helps. Don't have roming profiles so it's not that Graham. Net Framework 4 not let loose here yet, so I'm hoping that Penfold's workaround does the trick.

I'm running into problems with out Windows Server 2003 / XP Pro set up currently in that a few workstations are taking something like 2 minutes extra to apply the computer settings stage of log on. I have sat at identical workstations and run Autoruns and done a bit of clearing from the info it threw up but still the slowness persists. Not using either mandatory or roaming profiles and using users log ons who have already worked on the workstations. Any suggestion where to look next?

Having worked in airport security I'd say a huge well done to the team who discovered and safely handled this - just think of the devestation that would have ensued had it gone as planned by the bloddy terrorists.

I'm looking for a recommendation / quote for a decent printer which would mainly be for GCSE Photo and text use. Currently the teacher requesting this sends to a HP laser but the cost of replacement toner is driving her nuts!

Came across this also. Enabling remote registry and setting ity to automatic along with disabling UAC seems to have sorted it.

What's meant to be the advantage of a 2 week timetable? Feedback I have had from student daughters say they hate it - it's particularly disruptive to autistic children as well. Just can't see why some schools have gone this route?

Thinking back to the conversation with my HT I remember she told me that the:eek2: site was one gaining favourable comments at an AREA HEAD'S meeting!! I'll certainly go back to her trying to establish what it was they liked about it.
