  1. One of my schools has a MS 2008 Standard Edition domain and mostly XP Pro Workstations. The domain has been running pretty stable for about a year now. Recently though there have been a few DHCP Conflicts. I have tried Ipconfig / flush and renew but notice the same IP address gets allocated. ***.***.**.204 and . ***.***.**.205 Nothing seems to be actually sharing these IP addresses but from the old Server 2003 domain (it had a different name from the current one) I have a vague recollection that the scope then went up to 200 and 204 and 205 had been assigned outside the scope to wireless kit that’s no longer in school. The scope was extended about a year ago and now goes up to 250. Would I be right in thinking that I can delete 204 and 205 from the current register. Run flush and renew from the computers again and hopefully they will pick up new IP addresses or do I need to set something to block 204 and 205:confused:
  2. Yep, it's an odd one being just specific to Word on those new HP computers. Everything else saves as it should and the default path for the saves is identical in Word as it is in Excel.
  3. Thanks for your question / answer Pooley. I don't think it's a permission issue seems to be specific to the HP machines as I checked the student ability to save from elsewhere and that's fine?
  4. Got a strange issue on some new HP Z200 PCs running XP Pro SP3 with Office 2003 installed. As an admin no issues everything runs fine. However as a student Word refuses to save the document the UNC path to the students hidden work on the DC is correct (as it is and works in other Office 2003 (Excel, Powerpoint etc) but Word absolutley does nothing when they try to save in Word - the only option to succesfully save seems to be to a memory stick.
  5. I haven't mastered it yet with my Joomla site but Artisteer generates templates specifically for Joomla
  6. We have a lone vanilla Server 2008 Standard domain with predominantly XP Pro clients. The Richo photocopier is default printer and that's set through an existing inherited script file. In some classrooms there are additional shared printers (which don't appear on the script) connected through individual workstations. Users seem to be able to access and print to them but after logoff and logon they have to find them again. We now have a new network capable printer that needs setting up for the photography classroom. What would be the best way to set this up so that the computers in that classroom can access it without a need to search for it each time and to sort out the other printer issues (the loss need to re-find specific shared printers each time). I have a redundant RM SmartCache 2 that I could set up as an XP Workstation - perhaps set this up as a print server. All a bit new to me so advice would be greatly welcomed.
  7. Surely the County Council will be obliged to fix your Server kit up with an alternative supply to ensure continuity; all sorts of issues might pop up after such a long downtime?
  8. What stars you all are. Thanks folks.
  9. I'm looking for a replacement TFT for a Dell Lattitude 510 Laptop - any pointers please?
  10. Perfekt - worked a treat. TVM.
  11. I have a fairly deep spreadsheet which is viewed in Excel in both Office 2003 and 2007 how do you get it to display the title row when you scroll down?
  12. Thanks Killer_Bot. Turned off the ofline files, did a reboot still no access. Tried again still blocked. Then turned off the Sophos Firewall and yippee now have a happy pc.
  13. I find Sophos does the job well - specially as my LA pay for it. Issues it had which at the time did harm it's rep and force memory upgrades, have been ironed out. Support is UK based if you catch it daytime and in my opinion, superb.
  14. One of our TAs on SEN is currently doing a college course on Emotional Literacy and she want's to access suitable Emoticons whilst in school. Seems most the sites she tries are filtered out and Google Images comes up with a load but some - iffy ones as well. Anyone know of a good source we might get unfiltered for her to access please?
  15. Thanks Graham, Yes starts Access creates file and saves. Problem occurs on re open.
  16. Got a bit of an odd issue on MS Office 2003. Log on as Admin and build a DB no issues. DB opens with no issues on other Office 2003 suited pcs. Log on as a student, create DB save and close. Try to open again – initial bit ok but then try to open table and message pops up The Visual Basic for Applications project in the database is corrupt. (Access 2000 file format). Clicking about 20 times with the mouse eventually opens it. Did Office repair – no difference. Any ideas please?
  17. Thanks Chris and Kim. Tried the UNC path - no joy. Message telling me 'drive offline'. Looks like I'm going to have to bung XP on best part of 20 pcs!
  18. Further on this: just carried out a server update and reboot - that's not cured the problem. The drives are all visible, my specific one is accessible, the content can be seen but won't open with a message drive off line?
  19. Umh not thoughts on this then folks - going to try a reboot of the server when staff go home - hope that might wake things up but suspect it's a deeper Vista / Windows 7 issue?
  20. Had an issue over the past week or so where a few users using Vista and Windows 7 PCs are not picking up their usual network drives. No problem in the past - where do I start looking to resolve this issue please folks?
  21. Anyone got comments on Greensuite who recently sent us a flyer. It sounds interesting but I'm a tad concerned that they have kicked off when their web site is still in development?
  22. Misco seem to always sort out something tasty when I'm looking. Ordered 20 or so workstations and TFFs from them at 4 one afternoon and City Link were there delivering them the next morning at 07.30. Hard to beat service like that.
  23. Event Viewer keeps telling me that my DC has a NetBT issue. Running nbstat - t tells me that it's the DC itself having a duplicate name. DC has 2 LAN ports both with different IP addresses but I notice that one connects via a network port the other is plugged direct into a switch; would that be the problem?
  24. Try the local canoe club - they probably know someone who can make em good and would welcome them for training use?
