Senior IT Technician - Calne Vacancy
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Educational IT Jobs
Thanks Pete, The hours are no good for me either. I'm closing on 60 now and already have Thursday committed so sadly it's looking like there is little point in me even applying - unless they would consider a job share. I expect the salary will have potential to be pretty good as well - cracking job for some lucky person. -
Joomla and Akeeba Backup question
speckytecky posted a topic in South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL)
Here is a plea for guidance - anyone on SWGfL using Joomla and Akkbea Backup please. I'm looking for a bit of a steer on how to use it. I have a localhost site that has many bells and whistles including Akeeba. I now want to run that site up to my existing in place but incomplete SWGfL site. I don't think the system will allow me to clear the http folder by FTP. I'm thinking I have to do that on Plesk? If that's right is it simply a case of deleting the existing site on Plesk and uploading the Kikstart script and Akeeba produced zip backup to Plesk. Then going to suite/kickstart and the install happens or have I missed something or am I way off the money anyhow:confused: -
Not sure of my wisdom posting it here as being redundant today I'm applying myself! St Marys Calne

Mac bound to AD but domain now found. Have I missed something?
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Mac
Strange old thing! Successfully bound several to the domain yesterday. Had to go to Network / advance / directory Utility then set a new setting in LDAPV3 and configured it's various settings for our proxy. Not convinced about having Macs on the AD as apart from being able to log onto the domain and folder access what else is actually useful about it? -
Give the boys at Sherston Support a call - I expect one of these top rate chaps will know someone who might be able to help.

Well said Pete. I'm thinking the same thing

Thanks TechSupp for asking the question and pooley for your very useful answer. I to am a newbie on Macs to AD; I have just bound an iMac to my domain (unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been very successful - domain access is intermittent) but hadn't realised that I'd need to manually install the printer drivers - I presume they drivers are specific to the Mac that I'd need to download from the printer manufactures websites? /

Interesting reply adamf - thanks. Anyone any idea what the files listed in the op would serve if they were present?

Mac bound to AD but domain now found. Have I missed something?

OK I now hate Macs I was logged on it on the Domain adding printers then it lost the network ability again - mid adding a printer and has refused to let me log back on the domain ever since! -

Job done - turned out that a restart isn't good enough for Macs. Shutting it down then starting up again and it let me log onto the Domain!! -
Mac bound to AD but domain now found. Have I missed something?
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Mac
Thanks Treecat - your first I notice! I don't want to run a workaround though - I'm thinking it must be a step thats really simple that I'm missing. I had the same issue with the Internet and managed to find the setting to change for that. I'm thinking that as the Mac has bound to the domain but subsequently the domain is shown but listed as not available then it must be a setting somewhere that would clearly be obvious to an experienced Mac Tech but missing / less obvious to us old Windows folk!! -

speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Mac
Is this issue a setting that I need to change in Directory Utility / Advanced / User Experience: Currently Mapping and Administrative - nothing ticked. Network Protocol SMB and Default User Shell bin/bash. -
Got a new iMac which I have bound to the network. I see it in AD but when I now restart the Mac it refuses to log onto the domain. Logging on as local again and checking the directory Utility the domain is no longer accessible. What did I miss doingg? Steps to Bind were: Applications / Utility / directory Utility.app / Services Tab / Active Directory Followed this through and with Domain admin powers bound the mac. Next System Preferences / Accounts / Login Options / Disabled Automatic and changed Names to Names and Password. restart and tried domain\account with password Failed Logged back on local and checked to find domain no longer available and Internet also no longer connected. All IP's look ok.

My DT Teacher has been trying to get his year 10s to import data files into MS Access; it's an EDB school with 8 computers in the room for nearly all of them the program crashes. He has 2 groups and Access it worked successfully with 2 kids and failed 11. The machines that worked were different for the 2 groups???? any thoughts please.

I currently have a live (holding page only displayed) Edugeek Joomla site hosted on SWGfL Parallel Plesk. I want to replace it with a new Edugeek Joomla site I have built in a localhost environment. Apart from new content the new site has the added things like Artisteer generated Template, etc. Can anyone give me a quick run through on how and what I need to do to achieve this please.

Thanks for the suggestion DaveP. Virtual a no go at the problem school. Primary. It's the Business Managers workstation and secure net was working ok before.

Yep - Wiltshire cover been 'Emergency Only' on and off for the past 3 days.

Had a similar problem with SWGfL / Plesk hosted site. I' not sure what eventually sorted it - it was something done by the SWGfL Support team downline.

Apologies if this is nor SIMS but I have a question arising from my SBM using SIMS. She is trying to download to her SIMS drive with RM Secure Net Plus and getting a message 'system cannot locate output folder (gives G: drive and folder path - which does exist) for shared services in this case payroll...' RM suggest this is a Local Authority issue - anyone else encountered this if so what's the answer to sorting it please.

Thanks Michael, Yep did that - twice! Something very strange about the Laptop - I was asked to update the PITA Flash on it and a couple of it's sister machines. They both updated fine. This on though just didn't want to play, had to run the Flash uninstaller, reboot then on Adobe.com tried to download Flash again and it went through all the stages before it tries to force you to take the Google Toolbar or McAfee scan but this one never got that far and I ended up installing Flash from Sourceforge or one of it's sister sites. Thought I'd check that it was picking up MS updates and that's when I experienced the OP issue. Strange one and I'd love to get it sorted as it's niggling me.

Thanks Simon.Had the same problem with Samsung R509s and a Clevo. At last I have a pointer to a sort. Top man.

Good point no doubt, Tony, but it has taken many by complete surprise and they are left feeling like a limb is being wrenched off em. -
