  1. I have a mobility problem and was finding the standard Office swivel chair, well, a pain! I got hold of the local rep of Office Supplies - Prism in my case a chap by the name of Graham Parker. Graham took some details off me and made a visit with a sample which he set up exactly for me and left with me for the best part of a month. When he was satisfied I was fully satisfied with the chair he then ordered a specified build one for me - even letting me have a choice of colours and within a short time it was delivered by him. I just wish I had the same chair at home. It's fabulous and didn't cost a heap of £s either. I hope that when I retire they gift it to me as a leaving present:)
  2. I've had a few interesting BIOS explorations recently. Seems BIOS updates quite frequently make some very unexpected changes! Had a few Dell 390s that the WOL wouldn't work on till I flashed the BIOS from 5 to 11!
  3. Thanks @Oaktech Yes they are WOL enabled; that is apart from one M92Z which so far refuses to! Additionally there's another M92z which for some unknown reason I often find in the morning with a black screen with single line of repeating text saying it couldm't find the OS. If I Ctr Alt Del nothing happens. If I hard restart the same screen comes up. If I do the Apple Mac thing and take the lead out from the back for 30 seconds and replug it starts normally! n
  4. Annoyingly we are seeing an increasing number of our 64 bit Lenovo W7 Pro clients (and one HP client) failing to pick up the OS on a boot from cold. Pressing Ctr Alt Del from the resultant No OS found screen then goes on to result in a normal boot into Windows. With one Lenovo M92Z AIO client we have found Ctrl Alt Del doesn't reset it and the only way to get it to boot normally is to remove the power lead and after disk activity has stopped replug it, then it boots normally. Would this be a case of somehow the boot setting for the client has changed in the BIOS - we haven't changed it and as I say the problem apart from the HP and the M92Z is intermittent.
  5. For anyone else who encounters this issue post a BIOS update I found the answer - eventually at https://www.bw-pc.uni-freiburg.de/dateien/bwpc4/BIOS_UEFI_Handbuch-FUJITSU-ESPRIMO-P900.pdf page 44. Low power Soft Off disable.
  6. Thanks @unixmanand @gpjt Are wetransfer.com and 4shared.com - free file sharing and storage going to be okay UK data protection etc. wise?
  7. We have BTEC PE Evidence to submit to a moderator who is using a Hotmail address. As we are on O365 and it will allow only a maximum of 34 MB on attachments we can't submit by e-mail and One Drive doesn't seem to want to share to an external address. Any suggestions on how to achieve the submission would be welcome please.
  8. Ah, light at the end of the tunnel. Sounds like my Lumia 550 is going to be a collectors item of the future then at present its away being repaired as less than 6 months old it developed multiple faults including an inability to hold a charge for more than half a day with all Apps switched off! Using its predecessor the 520 again now which is ironic as I upgraded because I was having to charge that one too frequently I felt!
  9. Thanks for the very useful replies @snagrat and @psydii Greatly appreciated - my mind was getting pretty foggy on the way forward!
  10. Highgate IT Solutions gets the thumbs up from me for just about everything Please PM me if you want contact details of the cheeky chappie who manages our account - a fabulous fellow who has been our account manager for numerous years and comes with 100% recommendation from me. That said Apple are keen to have schools dealing direct we have an account manager with them.
  11. We are a small KS3/4 Special school currently running what was in origin a NT domain that's been migrated to Server 2003 then Server 2008. Migrated with a heap of legacy issues; such as mysteriously picking up the wrong proxy setting! We run a physical server based SIMS MIS which at one stage we were looking to move to hosted SIMS. Our workstations / laptops are all running Windows 7 Pro a mix of 32 bit and 64 bit as some of the kit is now 10 years old. The school management are deep in Multi Academy Trust talks. Over the summer we are upgrading - but it's just the main server with a fairly decent spec box that will run Server 2012 R2 and a decent Synology NAS box only that are coming in. What I seek advice on please fellow Edugeekers is thoughts on the best way to go - as we aren't after all going to Hosted SIMS the original plan of building a brand new domain maybe not the best option and maybe yet another migration might be our way to go?
  12. Sad isn't it. Common sense tells most of us that this would be the case. I wonder how much money actually gets wasted with this ever constant reinventing of the Educational wheel? Ministers on fact finding missions in other countries - the Scandinavian countries for example where their system seems to be the best in the world and never subject to the constant interference that th UK system is subject to. Now if they cherry picked the best ideas from those countries and produced a solid model to base the UK on that would be fair enough - but they don't do they. Things seem to have become far, far worse of recent years with changes even implemented to ongoing exam syllabuses. When my youngest was in her AS year she did a heap of English Lit work that was moderated then after the moderation the powers that be decided that part of the exam was to be replaced. Infuriating.
  13. We have a room with Fujitsu Esprimo E410 E85 DLT2 workstations that were until recently reacting to WOL commands from Impero. Post a BIOS update on these machines WOL isn't happening. Looking at the BIOS WOL is there in Black and I can't get into it? It's a RealteK PCIe Network Adapter and in there WOL is enabled. Any thoughts on this please?
  14. Although we have a specific number of Student and Staff licences ours portal also shows unlimited licences as well.
  15. Superbly useful reply thanks @robyholmes
  16. We are running O365 in our small school and I've been asked to explore Cloud solutions for backup. Is there any guidance that I could be pointed toward on this please? I have a vague feeling that Azure is somehow linked to O365 and that might be the best option?
  17. I know that our Software license supplier has a meeting with Adobe about the situation this Thursday. Any news I'll pop it up here.
  18. Thanks for the replies folks. Much appreciated. Ownership is Everyone and Users, Read & Execute, Read and List.System & Administrators full. Checking other similar clients - nope nothing like it on them. I'm probably going to end up reimaging. That said the PC is running okay.
  19. We had a student, now gone, who was forever probing our systems and checking a workstation he used to regularly use recently I see multiple folders on the C:\ with titles such as e48c69adce9a92168d984e5ea4 These folders seem to be empty, carried out a disk cleanup and they still remain. Any suggestions please?
  20. Thanks @Arthur on the money as ever. Pretty alarming that isn't it; so the answer from MS is that the best way toward prevention is to replace all OS with Windows 10; rather worrying that they don't seem to be pushing out the same sort of support for 7 and 8 isn't it? Yesterday we had a family luncheon to celebrate my mum turning 90 at a swanky hotel and I was shocked to see the version of Windows they were running was XP!
  21. As a bloke I reckon it's got to be well handy for trips to the loo; no danger of walking round for the rest of the day with your flies open
  22. Had a similar issue - found that installing KB947821 did the trick.
  23. Thanks @lukefrost I just had the privilege in giving you your first thank you on the Forum. Glad the issue is sorted. I remember Suffolk well having served in both Suffolk and Norfolk when I was in the Royal Air Force. Went to my only live football match in Ipswich when Ipswich played Bristol City!
  24. I find the best thing to do is log a call to their support. I had an issue recently and they were back to me and problem sorted within 2 hours. And it's all free. Just amazing service but I wonder if it will remain free?
  25. The support quote on our Ruckus ZD1100 and 8 APs comes up for renewal in just over a month. Anyone care to PM me with some quotes please?
