Thanks for posting this @Arthur it makes me wonder what Sophos and the other mainstream Security company's are doing about incorporating something that works like Maywarebytes into their products. As someone else responding to this thread has said we have Malwarebytes on our servers and main public accessing kit now. Malwarebytes seems to be leading this fight. This leaves me wondering what Governments as well are doing toward getting a grip on this issue? The scumbags who are making havoc and money out of this criminal activity need tracking down and having the full weight of justice coming down on them.

We run a Remote Desktop Server for a limited number of staff. It works a treat. However, recently two users have reported getting a message saying various options as to why they were unable to connect. Server not available etc. I had their laptops at home today logged on as them and both connected perfectly. My suspicion is that it might be some change in their home ISP Firewall status blocking them. Am I on the right lines or is there something more obvious that I'm overlooking?

Brother MFP-9140CDN gets our vote. Reasonable price, reliable, the cartridges go back to Brother freepost for recycling and the Admin and Teaching Staff can even manage to change the toner cartridges without technical input

Thanks Steve, Yes it's an access denied message. If I'm reading you correctly you are saying I should be able to add the Backup Exec permission to the Folder? I'd left the settings pretty basic for a couple of weeks and the Finance Officer was ok with access and the back up worked fine. Yesterday, however, they needed to save an Excel doc downloaded from Wisenet. The only way I was able to sort the access denied to Temp folder situation that was preventing that was by changing the Folder permissions much more thoroughly.

Thanks for the reply Steve, Just went into AD and renamed the user. Then on the home file reset permissions for the new user to have the required access. I guess I could exclude that user from the Job selection but as it's the Finance Officer perhaps not! When the vacancy is filled I'll set up a fresh account and transfer any relevant data across but in the meantime sticking with the temporary workaround. At 64 I find I learn something new every day

We recently had a member of our Admin team leave the school. With a temporary replacement for her we renamed the Server 2008 Domain account and propagated permissions so the new person had the files the leaver had purposely left. Unfortunately Backup Exec 2010 didn't like this and last night failed on the backup citing the failed files as listed under the previous users name. Is there any easy way round this issue that we haven't been able to see for the wood for the trees?

Sounds like a super job for some young person in their earlier years in IT - live on site all year round.

I have it on a Lumia 550 phone and one old i3 laptop with 2GB OF RAM at work. I much preferred W8 on the previous Lumia phone I had and I detest W8 on school kit so that's saying something! On the laptop it seems very happy despite the low quality processor and minimal RAM. That said our domain having a creaky old 32 bit Windows Server 2008 domain running 4GB of RAM (yep honestly!) won't take newer versions of nowt. What I have noticed with W10 though that concerns me greatly is OS updates ha become Apple like and take an absolute age to delay. I can't see that being acceptable on a live domain so guess the updates have to be planned for out of hours installs. Given that our domain shuts down the workstations when they are not in use I can't see that being a workable situation once we eventually get a server that brings us into the 21st century and enables deployment of W10.

One of our Admin staff has asked me if I can help her with a problem she is having with a Word document. The document is many pages long and has continuous columns and rows in it. The problem experienced is at the end of some boxes Word has decided it would be fun to put in extra space - a whole page in a few instances. Any Word experts here please who can advise on how to make the document look normal again.

I'd be getting the supplier of the kit (or were they a direct purchase?) heavily involved if it was my school. Lenovo is a big player nowadays and my guess is the upper management would be issuing a few 45s if they were aware of this dreadful absence of joined up after care. I'll make a couple of calls tomorrow and see if I can suss out who to complain to at their head office.

We use PUMPKIN Communications pumpkincomms.co.uk They are based in Frome Somerset. I doubt they would undertake a small job as far away from their base but may well be able to recommend someone who can do the job for you. The MD is called David Blackman and the work is top quality and reasonably competitive.

Those dates would tie in. My friend had a Beamer and ended up having to get rid of it as a result.

Personally I've had a couple of friends who have had bad experiences with supermarket fuel from a certain brand leader and on the strength of that stick to main brands nowadays wherever possible.

Thanks for posting this @DaveP When I was in the Royal Air Force I was lucky enough to serve at RAF Saxa Vord on Unst (that wonderful but very windy island at he top of the Shetlands). Best posting I had in my 23 years service. Mindful of that I was looking forward to the earlier BBC offerings of Shetland but was totally disappointed with it. I was hopeful it would be fast paces and interesting like the Scandinavian cop dramas. I don't know if it was the story line of Shetland or choice of main actors but I was left very wanting - a pity I felt as it failed to offer a true reflection of the great people and part of the UK that it is.

OK folks ran GParted - nice tool to use and it did exactly what I wanted. Sadly after several hours when the job was completed and time came to get out of GParted and restart Windows the latter came up with a message telling me that winload.exe was missing or corrupt Status 0x0000225 I've Googled this and am trying various options. Looking at the disk in an external caddy winload.exe is present.

I'm coming to this thread late and certainly after it seems you have got things sorted @nimrodel but I was just wondering what help the manufacturer of your server might be able to offer. In my last school I had a borfed Dell T310 and even though it was out of warranty Dell server support dragged me out of the mire. Ever since then I've ensured our DC and the second DC are in warranty. The former is now into its 7th year of warranty - the warranty is 4 hour response and cost the best part of a grand but for the peace of mind it gives its worth every penny of that.

Our reseller tells us: The agreement you are part of is coming to an end next year as we are now in the 3rd and final year of the agreement, however there will be a replacement agreement ....

I ran into a problem with my C drive becoming dangerously full today. Went into the disk management and shrunk the D drive by 20 GB with the intention of reallocating that to the C drive. Unfortunately because the 20 GB of unallocated space is sitting to the right of the D and not directly to the right of the C drive the disk management won't allow me to allocate it to the C drive. Is there a way around this please?

I have an O2 ongoing contract it should cost close to £25 a month but because I'm a loyal customer of several years I only pay something like £12 a month. I currently have a Nokia Lumia 520 running Windows 8 which has served me well. I'm now looking at replacing it as the battery isn't holding the charges so well nowadays. I'd tried a HTC before the Lumia but hated it. Any recommendations on here please on what to look at to replace the Lumia with?
