Can anyone recommend training available for the management and use of CCTV in schools. We recently has an IDIS system installed. I have never had any hands on experience of working with CCTV - good folk on Edugeek have helped massively with policies etc - thanks lovely peeps but the guy who installed our system although a very experienced engineer hadn't installed an IDIS system before and apart from the 100 page plus technical written manual I've been left holding this particular baby. I'm expected to Train other staff on it as well. I need training myself. Preferably in the Wiltshire area?

Couple of staff have approached me this morning with reports that OWA is opening, messages at visible but won't open plus they can't craft and send messages. One member of staff working from home yesterday also reported this issue on her W7 laptop at home.

My IT Teacher is trying to get his class to record and work with sound currently. Unfortunately they get a message 'Error while opening sound device. Please check the recording device settings and the project sample rate.' Googling this I found: Audacity error while opening sound device when recording they talk about a resolution in the Sound Recording settings of Showing Disabled Devices and enabling them. Unfortunately there aren't any disabled devices shown. When he tries to record at home with his school laptop it works fine?

Using laptops for students in a special school like ours is not a seriously viable option - unless you can rely upon total supervision. Too frequently lids get closed, the laptop then gets slung into a trolley the wrong way round, cables get damaged and the laptops themselves get vandalised.

Our six year old DC running 32 bit standard edition Server 2008 refuses to allow me to log on coming up with a message: The requested operation cannot be completed because the terminal connection is currently busy processing a connect, disconnect, reset or delete operation. Any suggestions. I'm not keen on a hard reboot as we have a fair few clients logged on and working. Currently all services (DHCP, DNS, Print, file server etc seem to be running ok.

Our IT Teacher is trying to run an Audio lesson with KS3 students using https://twistedwave.com/online/ and https://www.freesound.org/ When he runs it at home in Twistedwave he is able to select an Audio input for recording - which brings up an option from within Twistedwave or a recorded file. However in school that remains blank? He has allowed Popups.

Bit of a strange issue here with a HP Z210 computer running 64 bit Wondows 7 Pro. It lost the OS completely. I've checked the HD and that's OK and reinstalled the OS completely. If I press the power on button it starts fine apart from showing the PXE screen (rather it didn't) . The problem, is. If I WOL the PC it powers on gets a HP splash screen then a PXE screen but after that hangs with the cursor flashing in the top left of the screen. It then hangs there with the cursor flashing but pressing Ctrl Alt Del sets it off to boot normally.

We haven't had to use their support of recent months anyhow as almost all our kit is now out of warranty! That said when we did it was an IBM number we called and they then hived it off as a Lenovo. The support was ok but they persisted n treating me as if I knew little more than how to turn the computer on and insisting that their supplied OS and bloat ware was used without any support available if I'd reimaged! Defo not on my shopping list if I'm in the market for new kit anytime in the future.

Probably nowt! the EMP would stop any broadcast. Anyhow, if one of the current generation devices was set off it's unlikely that the planet would survive anyhow as a nuclear winter would be kicked off.

You are so right there @Zoom7000 goodness knows how laptops can properly be managed in a classroom environment. Staff seem to be incapable of grasping the need for even the sim supervision of getting the students to Shut Down so the little dears just close the lids and instead of replacing the device in the trolley as they found it they just have to put it in the wrong way round. Then along come the staff and clos the door trapping the cables and wondering why they get damaged! Nightmare for applying updates to as well. Then there's the deliberate damage. Oh, boy, oh boy I just hat laptops in schools!

I can highly recommend IT Disposal | LCWS Computer Recycling Ive used them 4 times in the past 8 years. They take anything that us school IT types get dumped upon us for Free, provide certification to comply with the DPA and WEEE Directive. I'd recommend buying a copy of Drive Erase Pro if it's still available - I did have the box set which comes with the programme on a blue coloured DVD and a red coloured DVD which you boot the PC to and it will wipe it quickly and securely from there - like a muppet I left my red disk in a PC I moved on with them. Since then I have actually physically removed the hard disks, dismantled them and hammered a few holes into the platters. Giving the residue to LCWS when they collected the kit they were delighted that I'd done that and did mention that they had needed to raise an invoice against a school which had left their hard disks fully loaded in the past.

We had a real expert set our O365 up but sadly he parted company with the company a few months after. I thought that would leave me up the creek without a paddle as the support contract with his former company was frankly not worth a thing without him there Then one of our Mods told me she had found Microsofts own support top notch so I have run a few sessions with them since and totally agree. This week for example I needed to completely remove all traces of two accounts so booked a support case through the O365 Portal. MS were back to me within hours and the lady allocated arranged an exact time to call me. She did just that and ran a remote session directing me to run an Azure Powershell session which she directed and about 30 minutes later job done. My guess is that @robjuk they could run a similar session in your case and sort your issue out as well. A definite ten out of ten to Microsoft support from me.

We have a Standard 32 bit Server 2008 Domain with W7 clients. We run WSUS and I notice that on a few home use staff laptops they have been picking up the upgrade to W10 option. Where in WSUS can I block this from happening? I guess that ultimately we are being driven toward replacing Server 2008 going onto Server 2012 and upgrading clients to W10. Apologies if this is in the wrong Forum - MODs please move to appropriate if I got it wrong.

We have a network available printer Samsung CLP 680 ND that is set with a static IP Bursar and Reception desk to use, both have identical Dell Win 7 computers. The reception desk is always able to print to it but annoyingly on the Bursar's machine it comes up as Offline. Can't see any way of telling it it's not offline?

Tends to be cord trousers and short sleeve shirt, no tie and pullover if needed plus trainers as I suffer pheriphil neuropathy and plantar fasciitis so comfort is the order of the day. Overall professional look I feel with ability to get the job done without presenting H & S danger to myself or others. Being old school I disparity at the standard of some other staff particularly those who think it's acceptable to sport tacky looking tattoos. If staff want tattoos then they should not be visible to students.

I felt your Thread was well worth a thanks @Sparticate7990 many of us in schools share your feelings. My 32 bit server 2008 Standard DC is now six years old - many switches, projectors and classroom computers are well past their best but it's neigh on impossible to convince of the need for funding for upgrades and replacements. Yet users continue to expect optimum service and performance. difficult nut to crack that one.

We are using Backup Exec 12.5 with LTO4 Tapes. We had a tape report in as failed recently. The new tape we have purchased needs to be labelled and go into the media set but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it. Seeking advice please.

5 or 6 years old - with a red lamp shoeing, it sounds like it's decided to give up the ghost. If you Google the model you should find a manual which will explain the warning lamps. We recently had two new Hitacchi units pop bulbs on very low hours. Hopefully that was a case that the bulbs they came with were a bad batch and will all expire whilst the warranty is still active. We have an onsite warranty visit for the second one booked this week and the T&Cs are a bit grinding. Droning on about only being worked on up to a certain height ( understandable I suppose) and that it will be billable at a ton plus if it isn't the fault we reported.

Panic over - I think! Removed in during the night and with the benefit of no interruptions I was able to explore Backup Exec sufficiently to enable me to track down the job and re-enable it. Thread now closed.
