Hello, looking for some advice please if anyone has any experience in this area! We have an NEC SV8100 telephone system within our school. The LEA's chosen phone support company charge a crazy amount of money to make any sorts of changes. Happily, so far we haven't had a great deal of problems but there is a slight change we could do with making to an extension. I think some minor changes I could possibly achieve myself if I had access to the system, however we have no access at all and the company are so far refusing to give me the login details which is very frustrating. Is it unreasonable for us to have access to a system we own? They keep trying to fob me off with different excuses which is making me all the more keen to actually get the details. I can appreciate that in the wrong hands the system could be rendered unusable but it is our equipment! Has anyone experienced this sort of thing before, if so how did you get round it? Thanks!

We are considering purchasing an Intel Modular Server (possibly rebranded as a NEC Flexpower Server), plus Promise Vtrak VTE310 for additional storage. I would be interested in any opinions/experiences that people have had with one of these. Our current setup is nearly five years old (Dell Poweredge 2850s x4, AX100 fibre channel SAN on RM CC3) and, of course, money is tight so we are looking for good value but still high quality and speed. We're initially looking at moving our CC3 across onto this but in due course possibly going vanilla and using Hyper-V with Windows 7 workstations and adding an Exchange 2010 server. Is this up to it in a large secondary school? Thanks.

I have a NEC projector that turns itself off after 10 mins of being connected to the laptop. However, if it is not connected to any input, it stays on and shows the NEC logo on the screen. The lamp has only used half of its lamp hours and I am not getting any warnings on the screen about the filter or overheating. I can't check if the projector is hot to the touch or if the fans are noisy as it mounted on a 13ft high false ceiling in the school hall and none of the ladders can reach it. When walking underneath the projector a while after it had switched itself off, I noticed that a red light was flashing. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be the problem or am I better off replacing the projector? (it's about 5-6 years old).

We have an NEC NP600G projector (discontinued now as it's about 5-6 years old) in our main hall which does all of our displaying for assemblies and the like. The other day, we had the message to clean the filter which we did as suggested in the manual and numerous youtube videos (not the one that says you need to wet the sponge filter). After removing the filters (2 little click out cartridges), cleaning them and then putting them back, we have this as our screen which we are unable to figure out why. Wondered if anyone had come across an answer as there is nothing on tinterweb with an answer (that is jumping out at me)? Thanks for any help, Lardboy

Hi all, We had some problems with power on Friday and come Monday morning we start getting calls that projectors won't work. We were able to bring most of them back to life by pulling the power cord, counting to 30, and reinserting. However, we have a number of NEC NP305 and NP310 projectors that are completely dead. Only these two models seem to be affected. Having a peek inside I can see what looks like a fuse soldered to a power board. Edit: Have checked the fuse with a multimeter, it's good. Anyone have a service manual for these projectors, or any advice for me? Thanks.

We have an analogue telephone connected to our NEC system within school which has another 6 Digital phones connected to it. We are wanting to change the analogue phone to a digital phone. We have been told that all we need to do is change what cables are plugged into the pace plate on the wall then plug in the new digital phone and the phone should power on. Could someone help us on what cables we need to plug into where to make the phone digital. Also does anything need changing on the NEC system which is the master box.

Hi Folks I look after the IT resources for a number of schools in West Yorkshire. The original tranche of funding for smartboards back in 2004/05 went to a local supplier with contacts in the LA (suprise suprise) who installed almost exclusively NEC Projectors (VT470's, VT570's etc) at massive cost. Most of these are now on to their second or third lamp, and are increasingly dim despite the purchase of a new lamp - some of these have been sent back to NEC for cleaning, at about £100, and then needed a new 'optical unit' which has cost another £100. This is stupid when contrasted against the cost of a new projector. Unfortunately if you've ordered a lamp for £150 to correct a brightness issue, then told the projector needs a clean, you're already wandered down the garden path of spending and it's hard to stop. I also look after a couple of schools who decided to shop around back in 04/05, and they went for Hitachi ED-X3400's and Epson EMP-S3's. Although they've received the same amount of use, these are still bright and usable wheras the NEC's are rubbish. My questions are: Are we the only ones who've encountered this? What lifespan do people regularly achieve / expect from their projectors? I'm considering planning to replace them every 3 -4 years now, and writing this into the ICT budgets. Did we simply get projectors with a design flaw? Lastly, does anyone reckon this scenario still applies to NEC projectors? I've seen the LP200's cheap with a 3yr hardware & lamp warranty but I don't know if I should trust NEC. Anyone got any good recommendations up to £450 inc VAT (3 yr warranty essential given previous experiences!) Sorry to be so verbose, but I'd like a good consensus to take back to my Headteachers. Your advice is both representative and greatly appreciated :-)
