Anyone else in the Wiltshire area suffering Intermittent Internet today?
-
That's not good is it. A great pity they aren't doing a special deal for Educational Establishments? I don't know a lot about it but would Bitdefender serve the purpose?

Surely I wasn't the only member of Edugeek at the event? It was a freebie and really useful. I got to mention Edugeek to several sponsors who seemed delighted to hear how many potential customers they might access through it so hopefully they will be in touch with the Head Honchos shortly seeking to come on board. We did have a wash up at the end and the Education table had at least 4 Network Managers on it.

It's a great pity they don't have a special deal at present for Educational Establishments. Their stable of tools is certainly growing https://www.malwarebytes.org/products/

We have an annual licence for a dozen seats which get applied to servers and machines that are likely to be malware targeted. From memory that costs somewhere close on £200 and worth every penny in my opinion. Has to be bought online st present. I think there are exciting things coming from MalWare Bytes. Founded, I believe by a chap in his early 20s.

Mirroring desktop from laptop - shrunken display?
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Hardware
Nope, not sorted as far as I'm aware. Mind they haven't used it in that mode since the first request to set it up! -
I'll have a dig around for the one a fellow Edugeeker kindly shared with me - this afternoon I expect it will be and if found post it up on here. I'm by post NM in my establishment but in practice we are heading for Academy status and have had massive changes of Governance and structure over the past 12 months. The draft I submitted seems to have been overlooked and now I'm darned if I know where my post and self stand going forward. Fearing or wondering if I should be welcoming outsourcing!

We have one teacher (teaches maths and ICT) who frequently complains that his access to his documents is slow. Most of his Office documents open with Smart's Notebook embedded. I have carried out various actions on his teacher workstation - run Delprof2, defragmenter, scandisked, file cleanup, speed tested network connection but he continues to complain that the 64 bit 4GB RAM Windows 7 workstation is slow. I've tested it with him there and to me the documents seem to open, admittedly not instantly but in reasonable time. Any step by step suggestions what to try next please?

Outage this morning 24 Mar 2016
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL)
Good one @Boredguy! It certainly upset my day; as ever certain staff were calling me and giving me thunderous looks like as if it was something I had done. Shows how heavily reliant we are on the Internet nowadays. -
Outage this morning 24 Mar 2016
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL)
Umh! Did here. Came back at 1030 hours then blipped off again 1145 hours for half an hour or so - and of course it's my fault; talk about looks of thunder! -
Any ideas what the outage was on SWGfL this morning? It took us out from about 0730 - 1045 hours. Amazing how much our staff actually depend upon the Internet and take it for granted!

Major Issues with the Ransom Testcrypt. encryption Virus :-(

Sorry to see you have been hit by this; what AV product are you using? -
I'm trying to mirror a display from a W7 Toshiba Satpro laptop to a 22" external monitor. It works okay but hte display on the monitor isn't exactly mirroring the laptop in as much as it's okay horizontally but squashed vertically?

Photo would be very handy please. - - - Updated - - - The very question I was just about to ask. Thanks.

Well Ch4 really seem to have done F1 proud - just wish the whole shebang was being broadcasted by their fantastic presentation team. They have got rid of the female presenter who I just found annoying, giving a decent bit of time in front of the camera to the fantastic Lee Mackenzie, back comes the much missed enthusiasm of Murray Walker and including Mark Webber is inspirational as well. Fantastic to see so many new faces as part of th presentation team as well. As to their opening shot with the Royal Air Force and Jensen Button, well that's just the bees knees. Wonderful to see Fernando walk away from what was left of his car.

Case logged with Microsoft.

Thanks @FN-GM yes as @Marci says it's Mail and yes we also suffer it with other documents. Naturally the staff think it's something I have done so it's reassuring to find others have the same issue.

[ms office - 2013] One Note annoyingly opens on RDS Session
speckytecky posted a topic in Office Software
We have Office 2013 running on a Remote Desktop Server and when users access it they get an annoying message popping up on their home computer opening One Note and asking to save the file somewhere. Is there a way of getting this to stop? -
Several of our O365 users have been complaining about PDF failure to open or print from the application? It seems the only way to get the document is to physically download it then open it?

I'm sitting here trying to reinvent the wheel when a brainwave came to me - ask on Edugeek! My task is to build a forward plan for our small school's (KS3/4 Special for boys with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties). I've been directed to do this starting from the user needs upward so that if necessary things can be built up from scratch with a development plan. What I'm trying to establish first off is if there is any recommended software for KS3/4 secondly what others have found they need for the teaching to be carried out effectively across all subject areas. Any suggestions would be massively welcome please.
