Not that I’m aware of. We have the essentials subscription. There may be some more functionality in the enterprise version which I’m not familiar with though . I wouldn’t really consider VEEAM restore ‘backward’, but it would be excellent feature to have a previous versions type restore option. Pick a file and look at its version history etc. Veeam restore does have great features like instant VM recovery, where you can actually boot a server from a backup file etc. Also the application aware stuff, allowing just restore of SQL database , or even individual Active Directory objects without doing a full server restore are great. You could maybe use rsync (it’s a linux thing- but can get it for windows). Can use file level backup, which can be set to take the deltas etc. Used to use this for file level offsite backups. Once setup, you could just browse to the backup share using UNC path and then browse the folder for each backup date. Not quite as seamless as ‘VSS’ and “Previous Versions”, but it works. I thought previous versions could still work in server 2016, with only w10 having the changes to it? “File History” feature looks like it could help, but not quite the same as vss and co. The other alternative is to move to something like 0365 or GSuite. Both have file restore for docs which are kept within their ecosystem. There are limitations with each which you would need to assess before deciding though. I haven’t been using VEEAM in conjunction with cloud connect, but this is due to the LEA currently offering more storage for a more affordable price. We have just setup a SMB share (which is hosted by the LEA) as a repository in our VEEAM. We then run a backupCopy job to protect a few critical servers. We currently use about 4TB. Additional to this and our main backup server , we also run a full copy of our backups to another building in the school stored to disk on a synology NAS. Cloud connect is usually provided by 3rd parties. Not 100% certain, but I think you can pay for your own license as an alternative and copy back to a HQ Datacenter etc for really large scale setups. In terms of 3rd party providers can’t remember the name of who I looked at before but there are quite a few across the country. I think you can find a list of suppliers on VEEAM website. Pricing will vary etc. Providers usually offer the option of sending your backups via USB disk etc in the first instance for the initial seeding, but it is worth bearing in mind your bandwidth if you intend to use offsite backups . If you estimate 1TB for offsite DR stuff, this would probably be achievable in terms of cost/space. When I looked at pricing about 18months ago, I was seeing ballpark pricing of about £3k for about 3tb. This is probably quite out of date now though. There are lots of different ways to achieve offsite backups though. RedStore are another option, which I have heard good things about.

Could you setup windows “Previous Versions” and enable users to self restore deleted files etc? Then use veeam as dr protection. I would recommend veeam as a backup product and the support tends to be quite good.

Depends on how many quotes the school/ govs require. Previously, I have invited; ITEC, Sharp, Konica, Kyocera, Danwood, Ridgemill, annodata and xerox as suppliers to tender in the past. A few responded saying that they couldn’t meet the deliverables set out in the tender (such as 4 hour response & unlimited call outs).

HI All, Thanks for your replies. Back to work from a few days off. Decided to remove all packages and re add one by one. Black screen seems to have gone away now, so it must be a compatibility thing between one of our packages and 1803 which didnt exist when using 1709. Not totally resolved yet but slowly getting there, Cheers Andy

Hi All, I am getting a black screen with cursor after deploying Windows 10 OSD SCCM task sequence. Not certain what the cause is. If anyone has come across this issue or similar, would you mind sharing your solution ? Background OS Version - Windows 10 - 1803 SCCM 2016 - CB (latest Update) ADK - Latest Version Boot Image (x64) - latest version - imported from ADK --- I have created a OSD Task Sequence in SCCM, with the basics - 1) Partition Disk 2)Apply OS 3)Apply Windows (I have specced an unattend.xml) 4)Apply Network (basic DNS & domain extension) 5)Apply Drivers (have enabled - unattended install of unsigned drivers) 5) Setup Windows & ConfigMgr (have set SMSMP, DNSSUFFX, SMSCACHESIZE) 6)Install Applications (setup as packages rather than Applications) .Net 3.5 Chrome Impero Google File Stream VLC 7-zip The process appears to complete without errors, however the computer gets stuck on a black screen with just a cursor. If you force the computer to switch off using the power button & then power it back on again, the PC continues fine. The OOBE appears and goes through (doesnt ask for anything due to the unattend.xml) and then drops you at the Windows Login screen. Once you login, the applications have installed fine & all the correct drivers appear to have been picked up. Looking in Event Viewer - I can't see any obvious errors. The smsts.log does show a couple of yellow flags, as follows, but I haven't been able to pin down if they are relevant RegQueryValueExW is unsuccessful for Software\Microsoft\SMS\Task Sequence, SMSTSEndProgram GetTsRegValue() is unsuccessful. 0x80070002. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Cheers Andy

I am planning to move an Enterprise Root CA which is currently sitting on a Server 2008 box, which is also a DC. This server is named WIN-DC01 I would like to move the CA to one of my other DCs which are named DC01 & DC02 The certs which are currently issued are computer certs for RADIUS. I need to make the process happen without effecting clients using 802.1x Any advice or recommended steps would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi All, We have been having issues since we installed Impero in September. A quarter of a year later and unfortunately it does not feel like we are much closer to a fix. - Issues today 1) loads of captures about 800+ for seemingly no reason - we have already updated to the latest v5.0 policies twice 2) Clients all lost connection to Impero server by mid morning, failed to restart Impero Server service, so gave the server a reboot. About 40 minutes later all the clients started to reconnect. This issue has existed since we installed Impero back in Aug / Sept. It seemed to resolve itself for a while but in this latest release we are back to square one. I am receiving complaints daily when teachers / librarians are loosing access to Impero in the middle of lessons etc. 3) One of my technicians had a support session with Impero, they said that the logs were the issue again and said they had fixed the issue with the logs. SLT approached me this afternoon asking if i could investigate an incident from yesterday. I went to look at the Impero logs, but we only have logs for 2 hours worth for today. Bottom line is, we are ending up with dozens more support calls to IT as a result of Impero, when it was purchased mainly as a tool to reduce workload. Impero - this is not good enough ! Make our Christmas merry and fix these problems

Hi All, I have been in touch with Apple Enterprise support today who say they will investigate and potentially escalate. I am not too confident , but if a fix is provided I will post it here. If no fix is provided, I think I will create a scheduled task on the file server to run a script with icacls command to remove the everyone group from the ACL

Hi 3s-gtec, thanks for your reply. Just had a look at that article, unfortunately its not a fix for us. Cheers

We updated our macs recently to El Captain and have been having various issues. Our Macs are bound to AD and to a Mac server with their home folders being served from a Windows Server. I have just discovered Account Unknown(S-1-5-88-3-448) ACL is being added to the users home folders when they are created and it is stopping them accessing their documents / movies folders etc. Has anybody come across this ? Any advice would be much appreciated

Hi All, I have just transitioned our DEP and VPP to ASM and have so far only sorted AirWatch . I would like to get the ball rolling with Apple Classroom. We are a SIMS school. Can anyone tell me what format the exported SIMS CSV must be in for ASM to work ? Also what fields are required in the report ? Thanks
