Hi. It would be very helpful to know the source of your two statements ie are they quotes from say ICO documents, or your own understanding.

Good point. Plan: after a given data item say student contact details in a row we will insert rows underneath which identify where else that data item is used, location, security etc.

Good point. My action point becomes to rewrite our privacy notice in plain and simple English. I have looked hard but all I can find is LEA based templates adopted by schools which I am not sure pass the accessibility test

Dear colleagues. me again :-) One of the GDPR rights is the right to be informed. This means the school must provide ‘fair processing information’, typically through a privacy notice. Our school's current privacy notice is based on a template supplied by the LEA: http://wgswitney.org.uk/perch/resources/wgs-privacy-notice-2017.pdf Clearly the GDPR written for parents is going to need an update to be GDPR compliant. However my understanding is that we also need to generate a privacy notice which is appropriate for students. This requires generating accessible text for an 11 year old. Are there any colleagues out there who are ahead of the game and have already created GDPR compliant privacy notice is aimed at adults, and separately for children? if so please do share :-) Many thanks in advance. Dear colleagues. As part of our getting ready for GDPR, I am coordinating a data audit. Practical advice on how to undertake this is rather thin on the ground? The best example I can find is given by the ICO of the Isle of Man https://www.inforights.im/media/1271/gdpr_part-1_toolkit_mapping_may2016.pdf I attach a photo of their summary A4 inventory and also spreadsheet i have created which adapts the IoM approach: it takes the view of the data we are collecting by student, member of staff, and parent. Our team will then go through each data collection sheet we issue identify a data item and our compliance, row by row. Parents teachers and students each have their own worksheet. data audit findings.xlsx I think this approach can work. great to hear comments or other ideas. GDPR is proving to be a real time sink

I will not tell you the number of staff who looked at my tender document and misread the spec. Clearly a typo :-) but still my bad. What I should have written is 100mb fibre, with 10mb redundancy from ADSL. A HUGE thanks for saving me from considerable embarrassment.

Interesting point. Thank you. We are a secondary school of some 1,000 students and 400 devices. No wireless (yet). Is 100Gb overkill in your view? What is a more appropriate figure?

Hi I have prepared a invitation to tender document which invites interested parties to tender to supply the following Internet services from 01-06-2016 for a period of three years. 1. Broadband: 100 Mb uncontested connection and 10 Mb ADSL reserve back up 2. Network Security. The school requires adequate monitoring, filtering, firewalls, anti-virus, authentication and other network security systems to help ensure the safety of pupils and security of school data and services 3. Online security functions to protect users from inappropriate web material and offensive emails I have two companies in mind to invite: Exa and South West Comms. I need at least one more. Hi Has anyone successfully deployed a Twitter WebPart for SharePoint 2013 Online. We want our official school Twitter feed, which we use to report 'micro' news, to display on the front page of our School Intranet which is a Sharepoint site within Office 365. Any advice most welcome

I got a lot of ideas looking at the 2 minute how to videos from ITHeadsUp. See: Here is what has then worked well at our school * Create departmental sites * Leverage newsfeeds by getting a) staff to post updates in a news feed and b) students to follow sites, documents and/or staff and then get students to use the newsfeed tab in office 365 to see a target list of updates. * Using departmental onenotes to curate resources and as handbooks I want to create subsites within the ICT Site for each of my classes and then use discussion app for feedback, etc Managing permissions is the issue. We already Use Salamander for AD and the next step is to use their SharePoint. This lightens the load on IT Support but is another £1,500 we do no have

Our school uses an add on for SIMs, PARS, which staff use to manage registration and behaviour incidents. In our view, PARS is a far friendlier interface and as improved our use of MIS for monitoring and coordination
