Umph! Best I don't bother raising the question in my Special then - been a seriously uphill task getting any content for the website so I somehow doubt that my pleas for input to a VLE would meet with any great enthusiasm then That said the VLE was one of the things (as was the whole in house ICT support scene) that was functional and useful at my daughter's previous school. So, I'm going to try and get her present school to build one.

I'm a NM in a KS3 Special school and also have a daughter who is a student in an otherwise pretty good KS3 / 4 school in another town. Neither school currently has a VLE and having read about the advantages here I'm wondering how to set about establishing one in the school I work in and enquiring why my daughter's school doesn't have one / suggesting they look into having one. Pointers would be welcome.

Got to be several Linksys switches - hard to convince that even if they are still working they would still be worth replacing. Got an electrical rewire ongoing at present so suspect the post 2005 beasties might make the decision themselves post trying to switch them back on. Last year though we found the keys for several storage areas the now retired Deputy Head (original IT Supremo) had stored redundant kit in, many, many, BBC's and even older kit with hoofing great CRT monitors by the dozen - ouch my back:(

Nay - not a horsefly they are about that size but speckled grey in colour with red 'eyes' they seem to fly soundlessly and the first you know about them is when you receive an almighty pain after they have bitten you. We had a bee start nesting in a compost bin in our garden about a month ago. I rang the local bee expert concerned as to what to do about it and the potential for stings and he asked me to leave it be and let the bees get on with their job of pollination telling me that they would evacuate in September. So far they have been good as gold and busily flying in and out on a regular basis. Hornets are nasty looking beasties about four times the size of wasp and slightly darker in colour. I suppose they all play a valuable part in the Eco chain but there is just something about wasps, hornets and flys that has me reaching for the swatter - I get the most satisfaction though from whacking a horse / grey fly as without a doubt a bite from one of them is the one that has left the most painful lasting impression on me!

Amen to that BBC News - UK 'losing fight' against internet crime, warn MPs No good our elected representatives warning about it it's them directing policy. Our elected representatives at both Westminster and in Europe should be bringing in effective policies that direct the various 'Agencies' to go get these geezers and punish them with some suitably high profile prosecutions that actually deter others from having a go.

I had such high hopes of this Government and in particular Cameron as PM. Sadly though they have proven themselves of failing to listen to the people who have the real expertise - this filtering announcement being yet another prime example. Letting ministers foam off cluelessly at the mouth (Gove being the chief proponent) and are now firmly marked in history for their ability to waste money devising plans and policy's which are promptly scrapped or turned around. Such a wasted opportunity.

Thanks for the update - one of my tasks over the Summer is migration from Uneasymail to 365. Currently on hold because of an incompatibility which I believe Microsoft are going to issue a fix for?

We have it listed as a block in Impero but our 'oh so clever' students rename it and still run it!

If you leave them laying around then the Staff will almost certainly plug them in to any laptop where the connector plug fits and wonder why the laptop won't charge! I had that experience last week with two Acers. An older charger with a blue ended plug which the member of staff insisted on plugging into her newer machine that took the yellow ended plug. Amazing as both chargers were sat next to each other:o On the topic of HP laptop chargers we had a couple of 625s fail to charge recently. Ended up having to replace the charging pack plus buy an adapter which they charged us £46 for as the end plug had changed on the new charger.

Another vote for Impero here. The technical support is also superb; they have spent a heap of time online with me helping set various tweaks up and just generally showing me around. No hesitation when it came to our first renewal - in fact we took advantage of the long contract option and saved a fair few quid.

I was talking to the project manager at SWGfL about this recently and she tells me they are on hold wit it currently until MS sort a 'small' glitch out.

We got quotes to extend (by 3 years) on our Dell Curriculum Server. Shopping round saved us a heap.

We bought three Apple TVs with the extra kit to connect them to Smartboards (HDMI / VGA converters and various leads). So all told best part of £600 invested plus a lot of faffing about and time only to give up as they just failed on our Domain with reliable connection issues. Gave up and became a convert to AirServer - Most advanced AirPlay receiver for Mac and PC after reading the glowing comments about it on Edugeek. So now for a one off payment of something like £60 all our kit to Smartboards have Airserver and it does the job - just easy and perfect. No idea what to do with the three sets of Apple TV now though

Checking our DHCP recently I noticed a few allocations that didn't have devices against them. I have identified most by entering the CURLallocated and seeing they come up as Wireless IP addresses. One however, just comes up as an Android device and I have no idea what it could be as I have certainly not joined any Android kit to the domain. How can I identify it?

Seven years ago we picked up a rescue dog - well new puppy actually; born as one of a litter of 10 from a dog 'dropped off' at a rescue centre. The motherwas defo part German Shepard but our dog is much more Labradoor. She looks like a lab, loves water and food and is just such a fab part of our family. Best bit is mongrels like her tend to be pretty healthy as they aren't interbreed which many of the more pure bred varieties are.

Good point @jmak Interestingly when I was renewing our warranty I was also a tad surprised at the direct price quoted by Dell and eventually got a couple of quotes for the same Dell warranty from resellers which came in considerably cheaper.

Dell T610 with built in LTO or removable external HD. Consider also taking advantage of extending Dell's superb warranty.

South West Copiers in Swindon have provided my school with first class service using Ricoh Copiers set as Domain defaults over the time I have worked there South West Copiers - Photocopiers in Swindon SN25 4YD - 192.com We do have that ongoing problem that too many staff think they have a 'right' to have and default to a colour laser in their classroom - not quite sure how you can get around that one - question of 'education' perhaps
