Thank you @Sean-OC-04 Any reply on this totally frustrating problem is greatly appreciated. I don't think it is a port problem now though as yesterday I had intermittent success connecting. We have of the Apple TVs. One in each of the Art, Science and ICT Classrooms. I was with the Art teacher initially and both she and I had iPads on in the classroom when suddenly mine displayed the screen on the Whiteboard. The Art Teacher's though refused. Next to the ICT classroom where my iPad again displayed after switching both the TV and iPad off and on again. Unfortunately, trying to reconnect again later failed as CID revisits to all three classrooms. So far I haven't been able to connect anyone else's iPads to the Apple TVs. Right puzzler it is?

Nay - I don't see that as off topic at all @SovietRussia as I believe this is exactly what is causing the problem we are experiencing. Apple have sent me the following which may well help Apple TV: How to configure a proxy using profile I'm also going to give Air Server a trial run. The Apple TV sounds a great idea but in my experience it's a total PITA. I hope to be proved wrong!

OK - so we now have three Apple TVs all set up on the Network. Today I connected an iPad with Airplay to two of them but found the connection is not reliably consistent enough. Trying to connect with the Teacher's iPad failed. Most odd and totally frustrating. Anyone using these things to regularly connect to SmartBoards - if so do you also suffer this intermittent connection problem - the Apple Helpdesk at one stage had me restart both the Apple TV and iPad and then the display worked!

Bringing this thread back to life. We have some Apple TVs but our iPads are currently not getting to talk to them because they can't get through the SWGfL filter. What is it we need to ask SWGfL to release?

Two members of staff recently mentioned they have received 'odd' messages from Yahoo - resolved by resetting their passwords apparently but apparently the messages originated in Egypt in both cases ans resulted in their accounts spamming their address book contacts.

This one is resolved - at last. With a huge thank you to Kevin Carter of CAPITA who traced the issue to a permissions issue. The students did not have any permissions on the Windows\temp folder. Setting them to full permissions and now the programmes that by default write to this folder by default work. What a relief. I'm still a bit puzzled over why the correct setting had not been picked up in the original set up though.

Just bought a nice tidy looking 2TB Buffalo Linkstation NAS box which has 2 by 1TB drives that can be set in either Raid 0 or Raid 1. We have a growing need for multimedia storage that doesn't necessarily need backing up on the curriculum domain - animation and photographs being the main items I suppose. Whats best practice for setting this little beast up for the most effective and practical use we can get out of it? I was thinking of setting it up as two shared drives one for student shared work and the other for staff with appropriate permissions on each (which again I'd appreciate suggestions on). Currently one TA / Instructor who covers art and photography has 37GB of data stored in her home folder!!

Sophos since 2004. Apart from the glitch last year which they worked their socks off to help sort out and vastly improved their support as a result it's been fabulous. It does so much more through the Enterprise Console as well - like allowing easy set up of various groups that client machines can be dropped into with clamp downs on a huge array of issues such as blocking use of USB memory sticks and running various programmes.

I had a Win 7 machine which I had joined to the network then used Clonezilla to capture an image of it. I didn't sysprep it but later on had a HD fail on a similar machine. I was able to Clonexilla that image onto the new HD then joined the client to the network. It seems to be working fine without causing any conflicts - all I had to do was re enter the Office key and re activate Win 7.

My Y10 daughter brought home a form from school today - giving her the option to find a weeks work experience. She doesn't want to waste the opportunity and would like to find something useful for science, geography or astronomy. Any really useful suggestions please guys and galls?

We have a Samsung CLP-680ND set up for the Admin staff to print to. However, it's refusing to populate pre printed bank cheque runs currently. Capita helpdesk suggested first this was a known problem with a need to close background programmes; that made no difference and they promised faithfully to get back to our Bursar yesterday with a resolution. No joy. Rang them again this morning again receiving a promise of a return call within the hour. Here we are two and a half hours later no return call - Grr!

Sad situation as many of these people are national heroes. Thanks for the helpful replies @jamesreedersmith, @caffrey (anything to do with Jack Caffrey or has Mo Hayder just borrowed your surname). As we have the darned things now I'm reckoning the mounts will be our way to go but the Airserver defo sounds interesting for any future kit we get.

We have some Apple TV devices running with HDMI - VGA converters now but I'm having concerns about where to put them so they are tidy and as secure from thieves as possible. Has anyone worked out a solution for a achieving this? i have one that would ideally plug straight into the VGA at the back of the projector so need to mount the boxes on the ceiling and others are linking in through the desktop feed.

Getting used to absolute silence when everything runs as it should be then a hailstorm of protest when an update or something similar makes the network cranky but absolute silence again when you have worked like stink and used best tools like Edugeek to resolve issues. Rarely, someone notices you have fixed something and says thanks - that makes it all worth it! Printer not working is a regular as well so you have to get used to checking the obvious, is it switched on, has it got toner and paper and regularly has some numpty put too much paper in it!

Hi @timbo343 sounds like a complete nightmare, sorry to hear of the issues you have been having and glad it now seems to be panning out ok. Just a thought on your OP, in the past I have seen words of caution here on posting up IP address ranges in clear might be worth editing and substituting a few numbers with *s mate.

Hi @timbo343 I'm guessing you would be getting some helpful replies and keeping the Moderators happy and us general readers less confused if your subject title was specific to your enquiry. When I saw it I wasn't sure if you were having a software, hardware or even a domestic problem mate.

Yesterday was the day we planned to upgrade our Sophos Enterprise Management Console from version 5.0 to version 5.2. Initially things went ok but then the upgrade failed because a component was missing from the database. Ten out of ten to Sophos support in particular Michael Garewal who spent 3 hours online with me fixing this problem. That really is excellence in Support that would be unbeaten anywhere in my opinion. Thanks Sophos and Michael. I'm one happy Sophos customer.

Here we are 0600 hours on a Saturday morning yet the Edugeek Forum has close on 900 people viewing it. Near enough 800 guests and the rest being registered users. Quite a testament to what a fabulously useful and trusted resource Edugeek is. Thanks for founding it you Edugeek pioneers.

We have one SmartBoard that was initially set up to run without a monitor - Science classroom with bunsen burners etc. and not a heap of space. We now have the necessary wires on the teacher's desktop to afford either a workstation and monitor or laptop there to run the SmartBoard from. The teacher wants also to run an Apple TV set up from the point. Trouble is the laptop I have set him up with only has two USB ports - so, yet again, I need to think again. What works for you other folk with similar set ups?
