  1. I'm pretty sure that the MB on those won't let you flash the BIOS without entering the supervisor password if its been set.
  2. Not under warranty then? As a previous fan I have vowed never to by Lenovo kit again after bad experiences with some of their computers. Foolishly, probably, we had never set BIOS supervisor passwords and one of our little dears set a supervisor password on the BIOS then disabled network access trying to circumvent Impero. Result - BIOS completely locked out and unable to boot. No way of resetting without the password other than replacing the Motherboard. Which would have in all probability cost more that the machine cost us in the first place. After much discussion with Lenovo / IBM support they kindly replaced the MB out of 'goodwill'. Needless today as a priority we set the supervisor password globally throughout the school after this. Can't say I'm a great fan of American Megatrends Motherboards though as a result. Too much visibly going on displayed on the screen during boot up as well and I haven't worked out how to hide it.
  3. OK. Certainly a one off I reckon as Impero Support is one of the main reasons we have the excellent system. Thanks Rus PM on the way.
  4. Slightly off topic but I rang the Impero help desk at about 1250 hours spoke to a chap who seemed to have difficulty understanding my name and school details then after explaining my issue he tells me Technical Support were out to lunch ring back in half an hour. Not the level of Service either expected nor in the past experienced from Impero!!
  5. We started down the Apple TV route (have 3 sets with HDMI to VGA converters and associated cables) found them expensive and not reliable. Now replaced by AirServer - Most advanced AirPlay receiver for Mac and PC which cost about £50 for a one off site licence and does the job superbly.
  6. For the record our KS3 EDB Special for boys did allow it but the many of our boys were becoming obsessed with it so we now block it with Impero.
  7. Interesting BBC Article on Minecraft at the BBC web: BBC News - Why Minecraft is more than just another video game What's the feeling here a useful educational tool or a Network bloating menace?
  8. Had the same recently - of course it was 'vital' data on it that the teacher hadn't saved elsewhere! I ended up formatting it then ucsing Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download to retrieve what was recoverable. Unfortunately the 'vital' data wasn't amongst what I recovered.
  9. Where about in the country are you? I ask because if you are in the Wiltshire and nearby Counties area I have a truly excellent contact at Capita who is a real whiz at setting up networks. A real gem of a guy who just loves his work. I have known him since about 2006 and he has come in on a booking and helped me out several times. Please PM me if you want further details.
  10. I'm thinking these have the American Megatrends MB? If so then it's pretty much a case of replacing the MB. I had the same problem on some Lenovo's. Unwisely, probably, we had never BIOS supervisor Passwords and one of our little dears discovered this and set one. Never discovered which kid it was but after much communication Lenovo replaced the MB out of goodwill. Needless to say all our kit now has the BIOS supervisor PW set as a priority. It sounds like you have suffered the same problem as I'm pretty sure the manufacture doesn't set a default Supervisor PW.
  11. Thanks both. Yes Stelges confirm it's most likely the chip but they won't repair as they say it's out of warranty!
  12. Thanks for this @IT_Man_Dan it answers a post I was just going to create. Unfortunately when I go to the location you mention I only have options for IE 5 & 6, IE 7 and IE 8. How do I add in one for IE 9 please?
  13. We have a Smart Unifi35 Projector that was working fine at he end of last term but this week it's displaying pixel dots at various places on the screen. I have used the Smart Cleaning tool to no avail and the lens face is ok. The bulb was changed in June. Any thoughts and suggestions please?
  14. We have a SmartBoard 680 in a classroom with an Epson projector that's circa 3 years old - one with the big bulbous lens. Last term it was connected to a widescreen Toshiba laptop and the image mirrored was a pretty good fit. Replaced the Toshiba yesterday with a Windows 7 Lenovo desktop Think Centre with a Phillips square shaped 19 inch monitor connected to monitor and SmartBoard through a powered VGA splitter. Now the image is far too wide - more like a Landscape image and the useful bits of the Desktop are off the board. I can't figure out how to resolve this one. Had a similar problem with another Windows 7 computer and SmartBoard but resolved that one by replacing the 19 inch widescreen monitor with a square one?
  15. I can vouch for Steve's Wordpress sites - he has put together some excellent ones for organisations I'm involved with some even for free and others at a very reasonable price.
  16. Hi guys and gals. My Bursar just asked me why her new MS Wireless keyboard won't populate cells in FMS when she presses F7. Her old keyboard did do that. Any ideas please? Something I probably should know he answer to but the little grey cells aren't playing today!
  17. Gone with the Serif package. Loaded it up on a laptop for out IT teacher to trial over the holiday.
  18. Why is the thanks button not available on this thread?
  19. Apologies in advance - I have a feeling I have asked something similar to this in the past:rolleyes: One of our Governors has asked if there is any way that technology can be used to ensure that staff members have read policy documents. He is fed up with staff signing as having read documents but in practice not implementing policies. I can't think of a way of assisting him in his mission. If it's a serious breach of policy to me the answer is to pop any members in breach on a disciplinary! However, if there is a fairly simple way of holding Policy Documents on a file server and tracking staff viewing then best I get it implemented:D
  20. How do you stand with the 3 year warranty if you re image?
  21. Thanks @Arthur - I'd have hit the thanks button but it's not there! Not a problem for me as after my ongoing bad experience with the Lenovo M92Z All in Ones I have voted never to buy in another Lenovo again. It's back to the tried and trusty Fijitsu Siemens for us, received a new batch in recently - excellent value and above all minimal bloat ware.
  22. We are on the list to migrate from SWGfL Easymail to Office 365. What do I need to know and do beforehand - for example; will we need to set up an Exchange Server in-house? Is there a muppets guide available - if so please point this muppet toward it please Apologies if I have posted this thread in the wrong place - if so MODs please move as necessary.
  23. Thanks John, I think this URL outlines the reasons why such cover is worth considering. Problem with it is it seems to be geared toward School Admin involvement.
  24. Whilst at school for as long as I can remember my children have had Personal Accident Insurance provided by BEST. A few years ago BEST was absorbed into the mighty CAPITA and this year they tell me that they are no longer offering the cover. They have suggested that I Google an alternative. Unfortunately all Google seems to bring up is insurance offered through Private Schools for their in house students. I'm seriously annoyed with CAPITA for taking over and changing this company which as far as I can see was uniquely offering people at State schools a very good product. Does anyone know of another company offering an alternative please?
  25. Top man - he was fabulous in the part of Oldsen in one of my top ever favourite films Local Hero. A film also marked by its fab Mark Knopfler soundtrack.
