  1. I now have a bit more on this. It's for ICT covering Culture & The World around us. For Keystage: 3 The Aim of this unit is to use gaming platforms (in this case Rollercoaster Tycoon 3) to encourage literacy and social development, whilst learning key ICT functional skills. The students will learn the techniques for game design and will be using Rollercoaster Tycoon as an enquiry based play. This will take the form of writing emails sending attachments, researching, designing and building a theme park. Students will be connecting and building on their creativity and strategic thinking to complete challenges: Students will Build on social and emotional development Design a theme based on a given brief Create and edit within the game Review and assess against the original brief Plan and develop strategies within a gaming platform We were allowing the use of Minecraft in school but unfortunately it was bring abused. I suppose with the Rollercoaster software at least it being disk based there is chance to tightly control it's use. What are others using to cover this work?
  2. Thanks for the replies so far. User related @witch Further on this. The student reports no issues with other workstations and checking with him he had gone to Sample Pictures on this particular PC and allowed Windows associate programmes via the web. Deleted his local profile and logged him on again now AOK but still a puzzle. No Thanks button visible on this thread?
  3. I have a student whose saved work is all now coming up associated with Word. He is on a Windows 7 64 bit PC running Office 2010. I can't for the life of me think what could have been globally changed to affect just one student this way?
  4. IE11 Blocker Kit Download Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 11 from Official Microsoft Download Center
  5. On the time lapse camera I know Devizes School IT team recently posted up something covering their recently built Sixth Form Centre. Might be worth getting in touch with them.
  6. Panasonic cameras get my vote - specially the DMC-TZ range as their battery life is particularly good in my experience. Probably not enough on the budget end when it comes to price though although their are a few bargain older models still for sale.
  7. True but if I'm not mistaken an equally huge pension liability and I can't but help recall several delivery companies that have proved so difficult to manage that their boards have ended up selling them on for peanuts just to get rid of the liability. Rentokill Initial recently sold Citylink for £1 for example. Yet Citylink seemed to have a very nice segment of the market which must surely have been profitable?
  8. Anyone got information on this game please. I have a teacher who wants to run it.
  9. Thankfully now resolved. Running a winsock reset did the trick. [tip] Reset WinSock via Command Prompt with XP SP2
  10. An update. Darned thing won't go to a restore point or repair. I'm pretty sure this is all related to the American Megatrends MB and settings re network on it but for the life of me I cant fathom where the settings live. The MB is supervisor password protected. The Network port is lit ok but when I log on Local it's unable to ping etc despite the proxy settings being ok.
  11. I have a Lenovo M92Z All in one PC running Windows 7 64 bit which is refusing to log on normally. Eventually a message pops up saying: An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started. I have logged on in Safe Mode but the darned thing boots up then hangs with just the mouse live. Probably something obvious but I've defo got my Monday morning head on!!
  12. Probably lurking here but too modest to step in I'd highly recommend getting in touch with Ross Hamilton of EduMac Rebranding - How To Mac | How To Mac on this one. He sorted a similar problem for us toot sweet and it didn't cost us a shed load of dosh either.
  13. Thanks John, Wasn't even given a case number.
  14. Our teachers using Bromcom's Teachers Web Filder on iPads that have been updated to IOS7 are reporting it's broke and hangs. Logged a call to Bromcom Support 2 days ago but not a peep of an answer yet.
  15. We currently have a Dell Power Edge 840 Tower Server that has Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2, 2.4 Dual Core CPU, 2GB of RAM. 150GB HD Partitioned as a 30.5 GB OS and the remainder as Data. Backup Device on board is DAT72! The machine was running SIMS but is now redundant but it’s still got some life in it and I want to explore the options of putting some upgrades in it, a new OS on and using it to venture into virtual and Moodle (both new territory to me) as we currently don’t have a VLE. Any advice on this would be very welcome.
  16. We had a 'freebie' Ricoh GXe3300N printer (not from the dreaded IJT I might add) a couple of years ago. It ran through the original set of cartridges and a second black which ended up with us now having two of each, cyan, magenta and yellow plus one black boxed and unused. The printer went u/s about 6 months ago and in an 'electronics' sort of way. The cartridges were over £100 a bundle and have just time expired now but I'm reluctant to just bin them. I'm looking for a Ricoh printer to buy that can use the cartridges. Aficio GXe5550N/GXe3350N/GXe3300N or GXe2600 Can't see any on a search but maybe one of our suppliers has one - at a reasonable price?
  17. Sorted;) Switched the Router off and switched it on again - now printers are happy again!!
  18. Ours is a KS3 EBD (special Needs for Boys with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties). Mixed feelings here. We had a DT teacher and previous member of SLT here who were very enthusiastic about using games such as Minecraft as learning tools. They have gone and the current policy is no such games nor Social Media.
  19. We currently have Minecraft blocked by Impero but I'm increasingly thinking it's a useful learning tool for our Emotionally Disturbed Boys. The trouble has been in the past it's been allowed but a few lads went OTT with it and were playing it at every opportunity. A few building up over 12GB of Minecraft files in their home folders. What would be the best way to go forward with this?
  20. Interested to see you are recommending IE10 @Michael I thought IE10 was best avoided on Networks currently because Group Policy hasn't been matched to it?
  21. Well spotted Rob @twin--turbo my bad! I initially thought I still had an HP inkjet connected as well but it's been recycled now as it's cartridges were not lasting any time at all and cost a shed load of money to replace. No no the web interface does not come up own any. The Samsung and Brother are connected by cat5 to the EE router and come up in devices as ready. However, any print sent to them does not appear in the print queue at all. The annoying thing was it was all working fine. The Wifi Kodak does print ok it I don't believe their claim on best value for ink use as it seems to roar through cartridges! I haven't had a look at the event log yet - good pointer, thanks.
  22. Come on @bossman I'd love to be able to say I actually know of someone (other than a local hairdresser and scrap merchant - who appeared in the local paper) who has actually won more than a ton on any of the various Lotteries. As for the various raffle prize winners of a million I haven't even read about one of them hitting it in the national papers. Makes me wonder if some way down the road we are going to be told that the raffle at least has been a big con!
  23. Apologies if I have stuck this in the wrong Forum but to me it's a defo "How do you do it?" topic!! On my home Network I have four printers set up. Kodak C315 wireless Printer, Samsung ML2250 and a Brother HL-3040CN. The latter two are LAN connected to an EE router. They have in the past all printed perfectly with Windows 7 and 8 clients but post updates a few months ago are all visible still and coming up as 'ready' but sending anything to them and it doesn't print. I have tried Firewall settings (Kaspersky, Windows and Sophos) but the problem doesn't seem to be Firewall related. They are on RAW Protocol with Port 9100 and I notice the web interface for the printers is not viewable via a browser either but it used to be. Probably something totally obvious I'm missing, I'm pretty sure it's to do with Updates, can anyone suggest what it might be please?
  24. Steve Hill of this parish is a Wordpress wizzard as well.
  25. It's one of those things I wish they hadn't updated in the first place. I haven't seen anything that's an improvement on IOS6 yet.
