No one else suffered this experience after an update to a MacBook then?

Ba humbug, too Christmassy for me!

Thanks for the answers. My thoughts exactly! I sure as heck wasn't going to supply one just at the request I had.

We have a KS3 Special Needs student who has been diagnosed with arthritis in his wrist. I have been asked to supply a Laptop for his use when is comes to any 'written work' I'm not altogether sure that from a H&S perspective this is the best option. Any advice from here would be much welcome.

My art teacher started her MacBook this morning wanting to mirror to her whiteboard and the flipping thing wont. It's OSX 10.9 Good reliable Windows machine mirrors fine though!!

@timbo343 You are So right! So is Easter, Birthdays and all these bleeping International days for just about anything from sneezing through to more serious issues and don't get me started on Sports Relief and Children in Need!! Whilst I'm at it to the Government could do something useful by reviewing Charities, weeding out those that are duplicates - with expensive Admin and the other so called Charities that surely miss at least the spirit of the original concept; Boarding Schools for example! r

Christmas IS a load of tosh. Once was a religious celebration - although I've always had great doubts about the 'immaculate conception' Nowadays it's just yet another occasion for commercial organisations to rake as much cash off folk who in many cases don't have the cash to be fleeced of in the first place. I notice that despite this wonderful Government's statements of clamp downs the pay day lenders with their huge interest rates are advertising even more heavily.

Can't you pull it up with Mail.school name.county.sch.uk in the URL bar of a Google page?

The onmicrosoft account, if I remember correctly was my original one that set up as an A3 trial which has now expired. I now only have an A2 account and therefore no onmicrosoft one as far as I'm aware. Please keep me in the loop folks as I'm a light year behind @witch ! Only tried one migration so far and it reported succeeding but with errors - which was the fact that the folders didn't come across.

I just wish the UK adopted the Japanese practice of wearing face masks if they go out in public with a cough or similar. Also it would be far more sensible if 'management' showed a greater tolerance to staff (and students) taking a sick day when they have infect us colds - conversely that some staff didn't abuse that situation where it exists.

RM - a company in crisis?

I've been getting kit for schools almost exclusively for close on 10 years now. The key I found with them is getting a good account manager - mine is Michael Hinchliffe and he's ace. Very knowledgeable and sorts out good deals and most times delivery is the next day. -
Your set up sounds far superior to our Fiber To The Cabinet here in Devizes @sippo but we went over to that in September as well and ever since (despite speedtests showing circa 10.00 mbps upload and download on our previous set up to just under 40.00 mbps download and a widely fluctuating upload of below 2.00 to just under 10.00 mbps) I have been having teaching staff complaining that such things as BBC Clips is now unreliable - playing ok sometimes then at others stalling. SWGfL are investigating with the Provider (TalkTalk) and tell me they think they have a solution that should give me happy teachers by the end of the week.

We have a Mini Mac Server which was expertly set up by a very sound fellow of the Edugeek ilk who I have been unable to contact of recent weeks. I need to add some new Macs to our Workgroup Manager list of Computers but unfortunately I don't have he diradmin password. I have tried resetting it using the Terminal as per the article Mac OS X Server: How to reset the Open Directory administrator password but not being familiar with the Terminal commands somehow nothing changes when I get to the mkpassdb -setpassword ..... bit Anyone able to PM me please with a bit of clarification?

Those of our iPads which have been updated to iOS 7.0.4 are no longer picking up the Printers with Air Print. Tried restarting both the iPads and those printers which used to print ok but no joy apart from one Samsung AiO.

Christmas is a humbug. Once a religious occasion now like so many completely hijacked by businesses making money out of often those who can't afford it but do so because they believe the TV adverts!

I'm interested why @GarlicSnails isn't looking at SIMS?

By golly @witch - those two schools get some added value with you don't they. I hope that they let you claim all the overtime you give them. Now for the oft expected numpty question from me! You mention saving messages from UnEasymail to other than the folders provided - I'd love to know how to do that myself - especially as my Bursar now has fast approaching 2GB in her folders; that come migration time if I lost any of them I'd be hugely in the deep, deep, doo da!!

I'm not watching Come Dancing but am watching the fascinating and very humbling programme on Stephen Hawking. That man is truly, for me at least, up there in stature with Nelson Mandella. Few people have been able to make such a huge difference in history - Mandella and Hawking are amongst them.

I have a couple of Windows 7 OS computers that are behaving rather strangely on start up. One is a Lenovo x121e ThinkPad the other a HP 625s laptop. Both boot ok and allow log on but then during the logon process the screen goes black with the active cursor still displayed for about 3 minutes before the desktop finally gets revealed?

Just a thought @witch - you haven't by any chance switched over to SWGfL FTTC have you. We have and our upload speed has dipped from a pretty steady just over 10.00 Mbps to under 2.00 Mbps at times now. SWGfL are looking into this.

I'm an Office 365 'newbie' but looking at your question @ihaveaproblem - I'm not sure what you are asking. Perhaps if you explain in greater detail one of our fellow edugeekers will have a useful answer for you - they usually do!

I think many of us would be very interested to hear who these scoundrels are? Additionally a couple of questions: What sort / size of school are you? Where are you? My thoughts are toward you need to ask your LA for some Job Descriptions of IT Posts and according to your size start planning with the SLT & GB toward recruiting an in house team. External companies are always going to be a more expensive option I reckon as they are profit driven; equally and hopefully - in house should get you a team player who can work and integrate with staff needs. i.e. I'm in house myself on a PT contract but frequently respond to pleas to go the extra mile to sort problems. I do get paid overtime but also I also feel appreciated.
