Thanks @Dkeen94 too late for me as I exchanged it at the Apple Store last week - the battery was also a problem on that particular iPad; just wasn't holding a charge.

For those few of us who have been reading this thread and head scratching at SLG it's: Sims Learning Gateway! I've seen no direct mention of Bromcom's Teachers Web Folder in this thread either. We have tried the latter but only about 2 of our staff ever seemed to use it so hard to justify the cost.

20 new IPads - Meraki where to start
speckytecky replied to bicky's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Thanks for the raising the topic @bicky a member of my school's SMT is also keen that we go this route. I have great reservations and believe it all needs some very careful planning so hopefully I'll be able to pick up some useful feedback from the replies you get as well. We are a KS3 special school for boys who have emotional and behavioural difficulties so I have added reservations as to the feasibility and usefulness of iPads in such an environment. -
Bit of a strange one confronted me today. A student tells me that when he logs onto one of our Lenovo M92Z All in One PC's he can't get the £ sign. Logging onto it this morning myself and checking the keyboard setting the UK is not only default it's also the only KB installed. Logging on next as my test student and sure enough # comes up when it should be ! and no £ sign at all. Any suggestions please? f

At the risk of being shot down whenever I have an updating issue I run the following script which some kind lady (sadly I can't remember her name) gave me back in round about 2006. I think it needs refining a bit now but the old faithful seems to do the trick every time I call upon it. net.exe stop wuauserv cd /d %windir% rd /s softwaredistribution REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wuapi.dll REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wuaueng1.dll REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wuaueng.dll REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wucltui.dll REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wups.dll net.exe start wuauserv

Has there ever been a more detested and interfering Secretary of State for Education - why do these silly people never learn the lesson history of education clearly provides - keep your election promises, stop tinkering and let the teachers teach with consistent standards and goals. Mind if they binned maternity leave and cover teaching that would sure help as well. It's hugely disruptive for students to suffer from poorly disciplined lessons given by supply teachers. My word for Michael Gove M.P. "Listen"

Not heard much feedback from any other folk who used the services of Ross Hamilton but certainly for my school when he was operating under the handle of Edumac he was the real deal. Did a superb job setting up our Mini Mac Server and integrating it with our MS AD and didn't charge us an arm and a leg either. @rich-tech seems to have successfully tracked Ross down above but I also see that Edumac was rebranded as Junction IT but requests to that site fall on stony ground. A great shame. In the absence of Ross is anyone else a real bees knees when it comes to mac / MS network configuration and have they filled the gap the absence of Ross has left?

Very good news folks. I am very reliably told that Phoneix can supply this agreement through SWGfL to other areas as well.

Yes Impero will do the job nicely but my staff would be up in arms if they thought I was able to monitor their screens so staff machines are in a Group that is seperated from student machines so they don't show screens on the console.

One of our instructors came to me this morning with his iPad complaining that the home button's no longer working. Looking on tinternet I see many, many suggestions on this issue but so far all I have tried have failed. Anyone know of a way of resolving this one please?
-
Excellent - thanks Keith. Glad my school is in the SWGfL area so we can take advantage of this. I hope this proves useful to others on the Forum as well.
-
Thanks for the clarification Keith. Hopefully it's helpful to others as well. One point mentioned earlier was the likelihood of an impending price hike - any reassuring comment on that statement would be very helpful?

Yee happy birthday youngster. Long time ago that I was 36 but sure as heck it's gone by like a rocket. I'm now at the stage where the body's starting to be nearly as high maintenance as the wife:)

Thanks @Arthur and @synaesthesia I queried this with my contact at Phoneix and he assures me that: "I can confirm that the ETLA agreement is open to any education body. I have 46 schools signed up to the agreement. The agreement started Feb 2013..."

I'm probably the closest. 4 detached houses away. Takes me about 2 minutes walk!

Did everyone else already know about this or something?

Thanks to @Quackers for the pointer to Phoenix Paul Scaling at Phoenix recently sent me details of the new agreement that Adobe are introducing for Educational Establishment. Much like the Microsoft OVS Agreement it's based on FTE and the annual fee per full time employee is set at a tad over twenty pounds. Adobe Design & Web Premium includes: Photoshop Extended CS6 Illustrator CS6 InDesign CS6 Acrobat X Pro CS6 Dreamweaver CS6 Flash Pro CS6 Fireworks CS6 Bridge CS6 Encoder CS6

Please expand your thought process a tad @free780 Are you saying you think that IE10 and Windows 8 were well thought through releases by the mighty Microsoft - come to that and diverting a tad Apple aren't in my good books with iOS7 and Maverick either come to that. It's mighty embarrassing to tell staff that updates are a necessary progress for security only to find that the updates then create problems that weren't there before. iOS for example on iPads has screwed AirServer up on laptops and PCs that worked perfectly well with the old version but now don't have punchy enough graphics.
-
I so go along with the way you work @s-gtech Iv'e been caught out before and going in to work yesterday for example noticed servers seeking a restart. No way, so I updated a few clients instead and then found that they had picked up one of those horrid MS updates that seem to need a double restart before the log on screen appears. As we are a KS3 special for boys, some who get twitchy if their machine isn't on almost instantly that was bad enough but to have servers take an age to get back to 'normal' would have been too much pain for one day. On IE we have held at IE9 here.

Thanks for raising this thread @JamesBanks7 i was was also seeking similar advice. Like the sound of AirprintHactivator but can't see it in Apps?
