  1. Congratulations Russell and the rest of the Impero team on this achievement and well deserved recognition.
  2. We are still not moving forward on this one. My DT teacher tells me he needs this up and running in some sort of way for the AQA GCSE in ICT set assignment (unit 2) by Christmas and that the sites the students produce will not be live to public. I'm still trying to figure out what other schools use or intend to use MS Expressions perhaps? Microsoft Expression Changes | Microsoft Expression but wouldn't that involve having hosting of some sort or other?
  3. Not yet - haven't had a chance yet as I'm only part time!
  4. Sadly I suspect I know what their response will be - reimage!
  5. Thanks as ever @mac_shinobi. Some useful suggestions.
  6. Posted the OP a bit late to catch anyone's thoughts perhaps - any suggestions would be very welcome? I'm thinking BIOS perhaps?
  7. We have a few Lenovo M92Z all in one 23" computers running Windows7 (64bit) - occasionally the odd one will hang during shut down. Resulting in a black screen with the power on button still illuminated. Keyboard and mouse closed down and the only way we have found to get them back to life again is to do a hard reboot. Any thoughts please on what would be the cause of this?
  8. Our excellent MOD @witch recently posted some very wise words about the need for caution when offering critique on suppliers products - needed on this thread I'd suggest?
  9. Sadly I had a similar experience with another make of computer recently. This one was a desktop with an American Megatrends motherboard. It also ended up with a black screen on an attempted BIOS update. Why it failed I have no idea, the power didn't fail or anything but the machine had recently been restored to factory settings after blue screening. The BIOS update from CD had worked on another computer of the same make and model. The machine is working fine again now but only after the motherboard was replaced. I suspect this may well be what you need to do with your Acer.
  10. Well worth giving Junction IT, Apple Education Consultant a call. Ross of this Parish is a magician with Macs. We had a so called expert in before who charged us £150 for his visited talked a load of baffling stuff and made absolutely no difference. Ross paid us a visit, stayed a morning and set our Mini Mac server up and configured loads of stuff so that even I can manage it now. Fair enough our set up is a baby compared to yours but I'm sure the modest fee they charge would be money well spent in your case as well.
  11. Got to be said - this does look good. How can they do it at that price I wonder and still make a profit? Plus why aren't they advertising on here! Don't need to at the moment I suppose as this thread is doing it for em:)
  12. I'm looking for a recommendation for Software (preferably Free) to help one of our residential lads learn Spanish. We are a KS3 boarding school for lads with behavioural difficulties.
  13. Microsoft should be able to help you on this - they will be able to trace the licence by the address details then probably will want the school office to send them a fax on headed paper telling them you are authorised on behalf of the school then will set you up access to the key and current software.
  14. I hear that the plan is that GCSEs are to revert to a system much similar to 'O' Levels - rid of testing and coursework with an exam at the end of the course - like was dropped 1988 and have been tinkered with by successive governments ever since. Why on earth can't this Conlib current government stick to it's election pledge of ridding teachers, health workers and police of change and mountains of paperwork? No wonder the electorate don't engage! Methinks that there is going to be yet another U-Turn on this particular issue.
  15. We have Nova T6 running for Timetabling. We also have a very close link with a sister school and one of our Assistant Head's has asked me to enable a member of the SMT at the sister school to have remote access to our T6 so he can work on our timetable - strange but true:rolleyes: We also run Bromcom but as far as I'm aware that doesn't access T7. Any suggestion on the way to achieve this?
  16. Twice recently I have been called to the same classroom where a Windows 7 teacher workstation has 'lost' it's connection to the SmartBoard. Unplugging the USB and plugging it back in fails to reconnect and it's necessary to carry out a PC reboot to get it back - all is ok again then? SmartBoard Software is up to date.
  17. An update on this! I spoke to a very helpful lady at Samsung Support this morning about a problem we are having on a CLP-680 - the machine has a IP reservation and I went onto SyncThru and as the pop up recommends changed the username and admin PW. Unfortunately post that I can no longer log on to SyncThru for that machine. She told me that they now no longer recommend changing the username and PW. I want to try updating the FW as this machine causes our Admin staff grief when trying to print larger PDFs. I'm wondering if I reset the machine from it's onboard control panel will it pick up it's Reservation cleanly again?
  18. Come our next renewal I will be giving @Millgate a call. We were with Ramesys but when they were absorbed by CAPITA the renewal last year was a tad confused. I will also be getting a quote from Michael Hinchliffe our superb account manager at Misco.
  19. Yes parking on the pavements is causing an obstruction. In your case @timbo343 sounds like you might need to tread a little warily as your neighbour sounds like one of those neighbours you wouldn't wish on people. If I were you I'd ring your local council and ask them for clarification on the issue - preferably in writing just in case the neighbour 'plays up'. My nephew has had a problem neighbour for some years now and those people seem to do anything to make life difficult for him. Indeed recently he had an attempted burglary which suspiciously to me didn't sound like a genuine burglary attempt but a grudge issue. Best of luck mate.
  20. Thanks for the replies folks. Is there a relevant guide set down anywhere for the recommended way to set this coursework up? I'm guessing that to achieve the work it's going to have to live somewhere and then how is it accessed?
  21. My DT / IT Teacher has asked me to set some machines up by the end of the year to enable students to be able to create 'interesting' web pages. I think this must be GCSE related? They suggested "Coffee Cup" but I see from another thread I started that the thoughts are that 'free for education' doesn't exactly mean free. What are other schools using / can recommend?
  22. BBC News - FBI and Microsoft take down $500m-theft botnet Citadel
  23. Wasn't there talk in another thread that IE10 fails to pick up proxy settings; perhaps that's got something to do with it?
  24. On Tuesday Air Server was working perfectly but yesterday it refused to run coming up with a message saying that one of the ports it needed I think it was 7000) was already in use by another device. How can I establish what is hogging that port?
  25. I am encountering the same problem as @Jorgo describes below. I logged on with the default user and PW then reset it. Only to find the next time I logged onto it it wouldn't let me back in. Tried the last 8 digits of the MAC and that won't let me in either. Our Admin staff hate the 680 they have because it won't print from web or PDF if the default paper size isn't A4. Samsung suggested applying a firmware update - I duly tried that and the darned thing told me it was the wrong firmware - even though I know for sure I downloaded the right one.
