we have one WSUS server distributing updates to computers in 4 schools which area all part of one domain. Each school has a couple of laptop safes and I am trying to figure out a sensible way of distributing WSUS updates to the laptops without it impacting the lessons too much in terms up start up times etc. Any advice on what would be the best way of doing it? I did a bit of research and the only sensible way seems to be to only approve the updates once a month and just start them all up out of lessons to fetch all the updates.

has anyone been successful in blocking Minecraft through Windows? I have been struggling to block the JAR files from executing as there doesn't seem to be any way to do it apart from blocking the java.exe which is out of the question. I have come across this method by Neal Poole https://nealpoole.com/blog/2013/01/how-hard-is-it-to-blacklist-a-java-applet/ and have been in touch with him via comments but have not yet been successful in implementing a working solution. If anyone has suggestions or has used a java blacklist file before please let me know. Regards

Hi Everyone, I am in a bit of jam here. The educational establishment I am working at are currently stuck in a long contract with a printing company that has another few years left and with this came pcounter. The problem is that they must use pcounters for printing statistics as part of the agreement but their initial solution with magnetic cards didn't work very well and got abandoned. Now there is tonnes of waste happening because people constantly send endless print jobs. I have a bit of experience using printmanager plus and think its quite a decent tool so I wanted to to set it up right next to pcounter to control the printing allowance. Do you guys know if there are any conflicts between these 2? Or will they actually allow me to set them up back to back? Cheers

Hi guys, historically the sims client has been on the workstation images at our school, installed via the SimsInst.exe and then automatically upgraded when logged in. We just upgraded to Windows 7 with clean images and I have automated pretty much everything apart from sims. My knowledge of sims is quite limited so forgive me if the answer to this is easy but i was wondering if there is a way to deploy the client silently. Can I snapshot an MSI? Are there silent install switches? Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone, We just upgraded all our PCs to Windows 7 and the only thing i set up on the base image was Adobe CS 5.5 mainly because of its size. The images in this school have never been syspreped with windows XP so activating adobe has never been much of an issue but since I rebuilt all images from scratch and syspreped them i noticed that the license information on CS 5.5 gets removed. I cant use Enterprise Application manager because it only supports CS6. I also tried capturing before and after snapshots but that also didnt help. Any suggestions?....apart from doing it manually on 400PCs

Hi everyone, We just upgraded all our pcs to Windows 7 and the latest version of Smart Notebook 11. For some reason after the upgrade we are no longer able to pick up a pen and annotate the screen. Before you used to be able to pick up a pen and a canvas would straight away pop up on the screen allowing you to write but this doesn't happen any more. The board is interactive and the drivers are installed. Deployed via the Smart Install Manager.

I work in a school environment and for security reasons we remove all the default Windows 7 libraries from Windows Explorer using the well documented Registry hacks. I have just stumbled across an issue when the staff started attempting to rip music using Media Player. When checking the rip options the path is empty and cannot be changed. I also attempted to create a new library from within WMP instead however it did nothing, no response at all. As a result of these changes Windows Media Player now has very limited functionality. Could someone give me some pointer to restoring these features or overriding the default settings of WMP? I have tried various solutions to restore the library path, however most of them are meant to restore the Music library feature but not the library itself.

Can anyone suggest a good way of doing this apart from the obvious manual option. Cheers

hmmm not sure about that, MS have changed their directions along with their leaders in the last few years and have become more bold in their decisions. I think they will actually take a leap of faith this time and try to be the first mainstream provider to do this "all out". They will not lose their core audience i.e kids with MasterCards. I have been a loyal xbox fan since day-one however the product started to lack in feeding my gaming desires and I have now almost entirely moved my gaming back to the PC. at the moment my xbox is only to watch LoveFilm and have the occasional Fifa match or Kinect game when someone comes around
