Kids, and everyone really need to be exposed to more than just Windows, i can see the damage Microsoft being the main computer OS for the last 20 years has caused. Just 1 example so many people who use a desktop class OS every day don't know what a file extension is, why ? because Microsoft thought it would be funny to hide it years ago from the user, so they are never exposed to it and never get an understanding of what its for. Its the company they work for in the future to provide staff training , not the school, they should just turn up with versatile transferable skills, so for example if they understand file systems , they should be able to create a folder (so long as their is a GUI) on a Windows, Mac or Linux PC and know what its path is. If they understand how a spreadsheet works they should be able to use Google Sheets, Excel or Open Office. Instead what we have is people who call spreadsheets Excel , and when you say open your file manager they say is that my documents?

I've had a box running Elastix for 7 schools (110 extensions) since 2009 with ISDN trunks, it only missed a beat and needed a reboot once, so you should find Elastix stable and reliable. I'm going to change it to VM when we remove ISDN.

Yes because so many sites they use require flash. Its not like its a pain to update, on MacOS it takes me around 2 minutes to download, import to Munki and then to tell the whole site to update when on the login screen.

I listen to Windows Weekly and Macbreak Weekly on the TWIT podcasts. Useful for keeping up to date with Apple and Microsoft while i go for a walk on my lunch break.

We have a 200D Fortigate and a Fortianalyzer. Does the job well. The Fortianalyzer is powerful, but you have to write the reports yourself in SQL. I have it emailing me , person in charge of safeguarding and SLT everyday with the previous days flagged google searches and flagged website visits.

Yep, i have 8 Xbox 360's, loved the Xbox 360 until the interface changed to that horrid tile UI they use today. Then add that system link was ignored in the Xbox One i just jumped to Sony Playstation this generation and i have no intention of going back. Glad i did too as i love PSVR.

I cannot seem to figure a way , but in report designer can i get attendance data for a date range? I need students UPN, Surname, Total Marks possible, Authorised absence and unauthorised absence , but for the range 1/1/17 to 16/4/17 . I can get those fields on to a report no problem, but its coming back with 318 as possible marks so its recording it as of September i think. Any idea how to narrow the date range ?

When we ran SIMS we had SLG for our Parent Portal initially , but it was awful so moved to INSIGHT from Tasc, it is a much better product.

I was expecting this as Apple and Microsoft have a relationship, a strange one, Microsoft seem to give Apple's iOS preference in the mobile world, and Microsoft Office did start life on the Mac and they still make Office for Mac and iOS to this date, with good iPad Pro support. So guessing it would not take much for Microsoft to get Apple to put its iTunes in the Windows store, as they do kinda get along.

I wish we could dump O365, its not really liked by anyone here and i want to burn it to the ground some days. OneDrive is nothing but a heap of junk (and thats being nice) , weaning people off Word , Excel and PowerPoint is a difficult task.

We learned the hard way years ago with Microsoft Class Server (which was a really good product), just don't invest time in Microsofts Education aimed products, you will get screwed in the end.

The main reason people still use Windows is because of Win32 apps. Its the only reason we ever touch it here. Many businesses have years of legacy software there business depends on so they wont touch this. I think most of us in education have software teachers still insist on wanting that says Windows 3.1 on the system requirements , and then software like SIMS wont run on Windows 10 S (although when that eventually goes web app it wont be an issue). People who like to game cannot install STEAM on Windows 10 S. It is just Windows RT again but without the ARM part. and what really makes me mad the most is its yet another version of Windows , like they don't already have too many SKU's!

Our staff find iSAMS much friendlier and easier than SIMS, so if having a nice GUI and easy to use is high up the list definitely have a look at iSAMS. Plus its 100% web browser based which i love and has Apps for Parents, Teachers, Students for both Smartphones and Tablets running iOS and Android.

The previous Mac Pro had them at the front and easily accessible.
