Hi everyone, I have opened two change requests for Sims learning gateway and am calling on all you fine people to sign them! The first one is to remove the forced password expiration for parent accounts - Cr number: 1401-1277686 The second is to display remaining dinner money balance for parental accounts - Cr number: 1401-1277687 Thanks for your help!

Can someone answer a question about this product please? I understand what it does and how it does it but every time I mention it to our IT supplier they tell me that for anyone outside AD to access SLG through our VLE will require an Internet Connector licence - these cost around £10K for our site. Now I know Capita aren't averse to making a bit more money but I cannot believe they would sell a product that no-one can use without paying extra to do so?

Does anyone know how I can do lesson planing in SIMS learning gateways and also change the columns displayed in the register.

HI! We currently use Sims.NET and SLG and the AD provisioning service to provision users when created with Sims.NET are created within our AD. We have temporary users for example PGCE and need to create them an AD user account but is reliant on them being a staff member (I have been told). Is there a way we can add PGCE students to allow provisioning to work without them being employed by the school. I hope the above makes sense!! Steve

Hello My manager is looking for some advice on how to best roll-out SLG to parents. Should he initially do a year group? Just interested parents? Things of this nature and any other advice that you think would be useful to an independent school with SLG. Could you PM me and we arrange a phone call at some point for him to discuss? Thank you very much.

Hi everyone, I'm setting up a test server while testing upgrading sharepoint to 2010. Having some trouble setting up the sims learning gateway site on the test server. The site has been set up, using the same msi's and commands as when doing upgrades (app tier.msi, web tier etc), all seems to work in principle with the site/pages but the webparts all produce the following error message - Information not available Sorry but the requested information is currently unavailable It seems like a possible connection error, but the webpart for entering the connection details does the same thing....just wondered if anyone else had managed to set up an slg site themelves and had any pointers?

Hi. When staff access and use the SIMS Learning Gateway from their home PC does anyone know if any sensitive data is stored in the PC's cache? We encrypt all staff laptop HDDs but it got me thinking about home PCs and whether staff are using them to access SLG and any other sensitive pupil data. Thanks.

BECTA is long gone (may it rest in peace), the Education Bill is looming on the horizon, and Ofsted framework changes are afoot... We are at that time of year where we need to renew our SIMS Learning Gateway maintenance contract, and I am being asked from above if it is worth us keeping SLG running. Yes, I agree we can save money on printing reports by having them available online, but those savings do not match the amount Capita desire from us! I started to wonder how many Schools/Colleges are planning on maintaining SIMS Learning Gateway (and other equivalents) now that it is not "expected" for us to provide it. I know that Ofsted will most certainly be looking at the different communication methods used with parents/carers, but there's not really any mention of online reporting, just VLE's. We already use email, text, a VLE, and our website to communicate; we have SIMS.net installed in classrooms for registration purposes; we already meet frequently with the parents/carers of our students; and we do not set homework for students as homework is done during our slightly longer school day. Apart from attendance, report, achievement and behavioural information (which we already communicate to our parents/carers), I'm not sure what else I can add to try and justify the expense of keeping SLG for what parents/carers and our staff will actually get from it. Has anyone else been put in the same situation? Has anyone considered deferring using SIMS Learning Gateway for a period of time? Am I just being jaded? (Forgive my mood but I've had a headache all morning, and it's been a long week already!) Any comments are much appreciated

Hi All, I am after some advice regarding access to SLG from home. Our network manager recently retired so I have been asked to get this configured. I need some information on how you guys have this configured. I understand we need a certificate, but do you all use TMG or a similar firewall for staff and parents to access SLG remotely? I do not know much about SLG so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Shane

Hi All, We are currently using Sims Learning Gateway but everyone moans about it! I know there are plenty of other products on the market that will do the job better (and probably cheaper) but does anyone do anything in house? And if they do mind sharing how they have it set up? Currently writing this post after a 2 days wait for Captia to look at our broken SLG Thanks!

Has anybody successfully added My Planner ( sims not mlg) to a non sims SharePoint site. Sims My planner is a list with a calendar view which has 3 hidden webparts feeding it. Other sims webparts work on the site but not this one. Thanks in anticipation

When users attempt to logout of SLG, it asks to close the browser window to complete as expected. If you had multiple tabs open and you open a new tab, and go to the SLG URL again it will still be logged in. Only if you close the browser entirely, it asks you to login as normal. Is there any change that can be made to SharePoint to prevent this from happening. It is a big security concern if a user thinks they have logged out but someone can just open a tab and get into SLG as them again.Capita support have said that "We are not able to provide support for Sharepoint/Environmental issues", which I am baffled by! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Julie

Hello, We have recently moved to Hosted SIMS. SIMS ID itself seems to work ok but the SIMS Learning Gateway - I can't believe how bad it is compared to ePortal. We have lots of issues that have been outstanding for weeks and considering we are a new customer, I have really lost my faith in CAPITA and this system to the point where i'm thinking about pulling the plug whilst it's early doors and going with a third party product. We only use SLG for parent access although we would have moved on to giving students access too. My question, what other third party supplies are people using and would you recommend them? I've seen links to Go4Schools and Tasc software Insight. Are they any good? Are there any others? We don't want staff to enter CP data into the third party product though, we simply want to use it to give parents (and if possible, students) access. It seems ridiculous thinking about buying into an alternative product but that's where I am right now. Any answers or advice would be much appreciated.

Hey alllllll Ok - we are looking to roll out SLG after christmass. Wanna find out what others have done and what problems they have come up against. What was your roll up plan? How did you distribute the user names and passwords? Did you provide some training for parents? What was the take up? Did you do it by year group? What were the problems with parents accessing? Technical support? Please please tell me it alll went very smooth - not a problem in sight - parents all happy - and everyone lived happily ever after. Geeky

Hi, i have been sifting through all the posts on here trying to find someone who has Moodle and Sims and has as a result gone down the Sims Learning Gateway (SLG) route and have it working! the are plenty of people who say they have purchased SLG and are awaiting install but i can't find any post with people who actually have it all setup and running. If you are the person i am looking for i have a few questions...... 1. How well/easy does SLG integrated in to Moodle? 2. What data have you got from Sims in to Moodle? (we are really hoping that courses and "attendees" can be "imported" because i really do not want to manually set them up myself!) 2. Did you setup the integration yourself or did Capita? 3. How much did it cost you (SLG, Hardware and licences)? 4. What licences and hardware (spec) did you purchase? Capita have quoted us £9,500 for SLG to be hosted with us, they briefly mumbled about Moodle integration and then quickly changed the subject. We have been left loving what they showed us but can't get clear answer to these questions. Any help/answers people can give would be great Thanks Lucy
