[ipad] Risks of running older iPads?
2ilent8cho replied to kennysarmy's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We don't know Apple will not release patches/updates for very serious exploits. They have in the past. iOS 6.1.6 was released after iOS 7, and was only for devices that were unable to take iOS 7. -
Standalone Macbook Air - Safari persists in reverting to Yahoo Search
2ilent8cho replied to speckytecky's topic in Mac
Just to confirm is this setting? If so i would try closing Safari, delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist -
If the HyperV host is on its own subnet behind quite restrictive firewall rules i would say you can get away without it. If the HyperV hosts network adaptor is configured so its on the same subnet as the rest of the network i would say yes, you would only need something like a new Blaster Worm on your network and the HyperV host will be infected too unless the firewall rules are very strict and the worm does not exploit services on the ports you have allowed in and out.

Windows Store - Do not rely on the GPO to block access
2ilent8cho replied to Tefters's topic in Windows 10

lynda.com have a very good PHP + MySQL course. You create your own CMS with logins from scratch. I even tweaked it to get it working with AD logins and i had never ever touched PHP before.

Having just endured Office 365 support , its only available of Education E1,E3 and E5 plans they tell me. I have to wait until Q1 2017 when its broadly available as its just preview at the moment.

I got the PS VR last weekend, got most the games available. I cannot play the scary games when i'm in the house by my self. Its too terrifying. 'Here they lie' had my heart pounding. (Its also the only game so far that gives me motion sickness). I use to see the videos on youtube with people screaming and think why, its only a game. I just cannot believe how immersive the VR is, you really do have to try it out to understand. Cannot wait for Resident Evil 7 in January, there is an extremely small demo of it called Kitchen for free on the PS Store and it's a great experience.

Anybody actually got this working yet? I turned it on in Settings 2 hours ago on the Admin portal but my Mac client and iPad client won't work, Mac client lets me sign in then says its not turned on for my site and the iPad saying sign in error. The video from MS says just login and flick the switch in the Admin centre and thats it, but in typical MS fashion its not.

Thanks for that, is B2B Open something i would get from my new MIS provider or is it available for download somewhere?

When i enquired the only off putting thing was the £5000 on boarding and training fee. They refused to sell Casper without it
-
I have been mostly happy with Lightspeed, but they were VERY slow to add the new iOS 9.3 features such as app blocking which i found highly annoying and made me wish i had gone for JAMF Casper Suite as that has much better Mac support too if you need to manage them. But apart from that, if its just iOS devices you want to manage it seems to work well.

You want to enable 'Force local home directory on startup disk' ticked in the directory utility to stop that happening.

I know SIMS has B2B for sending attendance data back to the LEA's, but what do other MIS's have? or is B2B some common thing they all use? We are going to move from SIMS but not sure what we do about this one part. Anybody else who changed MIS able to shed any light on this area?

iSAMS have recommended we carry on using Nova T6 if we jump ship. When i try to run Nova T6 directly it says no, i must launch it from SIMS. Do you know away around this or how to install it standalone?

So i've gone to Office 365 Admin, Settings, Organisational Profile, and clicked 'Add Custom Tiles'. They appear for me, and other users, except the Head does not get them. I've looked my self and when he goes to add it they just don't appear, other tiles are available for adding, just not the custom ones. Anybody else using custom tiles and come across this? If i have to phone Microsoft support i might stab somebody in rage.

Can you monitor BYOD devices?
2ilent8cho replied to Nausing's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
You can do this if your firewall/filter solution supports it. It would be a man in the middle attack as google encrypts searches ( i know Fortigate support this, i'm sure Smoothwall do too), so you would have need to install a certificate on the end users devices to intercept the traffic. -
This is exactly why we are very seriously considering moving to iSAMS and dumping SIMS after 20+ years. iSAMS have it right, fully web based + Apps for mobile/tablet.

Nope, the magical reboot aint worked. I might try removing the Document Server and re-add it. I've not done this since it was moved to that awful Solous 3. Anybody know if SIMS DMS means Sims Document Server?
-
With it being census day the people we get support from are swamped at the moment , so while i wait for a call back thought i would try here. Cannot start the Document Server service, get the following error in the screenshot. Checked the config file and it all seems correct. Anybody else ever had this?

Are there any UK laws with regard to keeping servers physically secure? At a primary we support the server is currently kept in a locked cupboard. They want to move it, and some of the places suggested would not be as secure as it was before, like a staff photocopier room.
