The only systems i know of that can network boot over wireless are Apple Mac's , i've never seen PXE work over WiFi.

Could be handy, i have 24TB of storage in my home server and would like an extra backup. But i find the Seagate drives fail well before the WD ones.

Same here, looks like by this time next year SIMS will be dumped, but it will be not just at this school, but at 4 schools within our MAT. Tired of waiting for SIMS 8 and the lack of any details makes it worse.

Hold down the Alt/Options key and that will show all bootable options including any available netboot.

We have close to 500 iPads deployed both student and teacher. MDM is a must, as is having the devices supervised, preferably with DEP as that adds even more advantages such as being able to push iOS updates via the MDM on mass. Also if the devices is activation locked with an Apple ID by the staff member when they leave the MDM will have a code you can pop in the password box to vipass and remove Apples activation lock. Staff are free to install what ever apps they want off the App Store and we allow reasonable personal use within the confines of our AUP, so we would not expect say Grindr to be installed, but if they want Facebook and Candy Crush thats fine. We don't lock the staff iPads down at all in terms on restrictions, the MDM for us in regards to Staff iPads is purely there so we can regain ownership of the device, push out paid Apps from the App Store and some default configurations we want.

I'm much happier working under an Academy. Our LEA was incompetent , slow and just frustrating to deal with.

I'm hoping they would keep the mobile apps, i just find generally apps a better experience than using a web browser on a tablet. Just look at PARS Connect it works in a web browser, but you end up losing screen space to the browser, if you create a link on your home screen to it on an iPad it opens a new tab every time a teacher presses the icon, and if you try to push it out as a Web Clip via an MDM and force full screen mode (best user experience possible from the users point of view for a non app) it just breaks and TASC don't have a fix.

I would not put it past Capita to use Silverlight, i really hope it does not this needs to be pure HTML5. What i am annoyed at is how quiet they are on information, there is a high chance we will dump SIMS in a years time unless SIMS 8 comes out by then or at least is shown off in detail with a realistic time frame.

Has anybody here moved from SIMS to iSAMS or another MIS recently? We have had SIMS since the 90s here, but we are going to look at alternatives over the next academic year, after a brief preliminary browse iSAMS caught our eye. Just looking to see if anybody has jumped and if they found things worse or better? Nothing has been set in stone yet.

If you want to stop with these stupid diets and actually get your weight off long term and keep it off get this and follow it to the letter. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0593064437/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=059306092X&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=WHB4NRPXA37FEVEG7NRE Worked for me after years of stupid Slimming World and other diet clubs. I eat all the foods diet clubs say are forbidden (just not to excess) without being made to feel bad and my weight just fell off and stayed off. I'm 6 stone lighter and 8" loss round the waist.

Just make sure the 'Create Mobile Account at login' is ticked in the Directory utility . That caches the AD credentials.

Printing does not need AirPrint printers, that is for iOS devices not Mac OS. We find printers are way easier on the Mac OS than Windows but that will depend on what printer vendor you have, the drivers tend to auto pull down from Apple and just work. We did have to specify Post Script cards for our Photocopiers though with Ricoh as its an extra. If you have a Remote Desktop Server this is your best option for SIMS access if its a one off Mac i would just use the standard RDP app from the App Store if you think there may be more you might want a different solution. We use Parallels 2X Parallels Remote Application Server to bring SIMS to our Macs which just gives the effect of SIMS being on the Mac , just a fancy RDP really. They use to offer a free 3 user version, but that stopped a few months back. Access file shares is easy, in finder just click Go, Connect to server and in the address box type smb://servername/share . You can create Aliases by dragging the share to the desktop and it will auto connect it up when double clicked. (Aliases are the Mac OS version of shortcuts). You can join them to AD for user authentication. What you really need to do is find out if this is going to be a one off or if more will be having a Mac. If its just a 1 off and the Head Teacher you can get away with very little management. If they intend on getting more now is the time to put tools in place for managing them such as Deploy Studio for imaging, Profile Manager for the Mac equivalent of what you would use Group Policy for, or if you have the money a full blown suite of management tools like Casper. Also how does the head intend on backing up? We use Time Machine Server on our Mac Server with an external 8TB thunderbolt drive. So if its just a one off they may want to get a Time Capsule.

I did thinks like Slimming World, Weight Watchers and all that stuff most of last decade and was forever over weight, going from 18 stone, down to 15/16 stone, then back up again. Best thing i ever did was stop going those awful things , did something that flys in their face and got down to 12 stone back in 2012, and now 4 years on i am still in the 12st's so the best part is the weight has not come back on!!

If you open up the Console application and open up the log /Library/Preferences/Managed Installs/Logs/ManagedSoftwareUpdate.log it should tell you why its not working.
-
I've just ran this command on my Mac sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/ManagedInstalls SoftwareRepoURL "http://munki" and it changed it to that setting for me.
-
If you do defaults read /Library/Preferences/ManagedInstalls at the Terminal you will see all the Munki settings. You can the change any of those settings with sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SoftwareRepoURL "http://whatever.mydomain.somthing" (that would change the Munki Server URL for example)

We dumped our desktops in 2013, every teacher has a laptop and a tablet. I prefer it, staff prefer it, and class rooms look much neater.

Moved to Elastix (Free, basically a nicely packaged Asterisk) in 2009. Was my side project for 2 months learning how it all worked, once i got my head around it we ordered the ISDN line and 10 channels and 80 Aastra phones for use with it. It taken up very little time since then it just sits there and just works. Next time i expect to spend any considerable time with it will be when i get rid of ISDN and move to SIP Trunks , but i have until 2025 for that so plenty of time yet. So if you currently have and own Aastra handsets they should work fine with Asterisk or Elastix as they do for us.

I popped it on my spare Mac yesterday, very much feels like a refinement release , but the copy and paste between devices is really cool. Very much the right device for the right moment thinking. When they are releasing an OS annually you cannot expect massive things every 12 months in a mature market.

Office manager came to be this morning saying she cannot load her NovaT Data set. Says it wants version 634 and its running 633. So i look and sure enough her local install of NovaT6 is 6.33 and our remote desktop box has 6.34 and another box i have SIMS installed on is 6.29. How does NovaT6 get updated? I've tried manually copying over the exe with the newer version but still insists its 6.33.

Every time i know i am going to have to phone Microsoft for Office 365 support it depresses me as i know how frustrated i am going to get. Thats if i can even make out what they are saying.

Not had vandalism in the IT Suites for 3 years now. All look like brand new still.

Even the iOS engineer i was with last year joked about that saying you can read all 40 pages if you wish and laughed and just pressed accept.

Sending prefix in outgoing calls in Asterisk
2ilent8cho replied to Espacio's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I run Elastix which is Asterisk but a nicely put together bundle. If i wanted to do this i would edit my Trunk and i have a box outbound dial prefix. Do you have a trunk option somewhere in the web interface?
