You're not brainwashed, i spent from age 12 with Windows 3.0 in the early 90s until about 2012 only using Windows, was a Windows fanboy. After finally having enough of the frustration of just keeping Windows working , the mess that was Vista and seeing the direction it was going with Windows 8 i went and bought a Macbook Air, i was very anti Apple most my life. All i can say now is i wish i had moved to Mac OS sooner and not been such an anti Apple dick and just properly tried the Mac. Once you get use to Mac OS its an amazing OS and an actual pleasure to use. A nice clean desktop oriented interface too like Windows use to have, i do still miss Windows 2000 though....

Yep, its awful and another reason i am glad we are saying bye bye to SIMS. Just this morning trying to get in SIMS on a workstation that has not been booted up since Monday last week, we did the SIMS upgrade on Thursday, had to just sit there and twiddle our thumbs until the agent decided to upgrade, it just said it was scheduled. On Solus 2 it would have started the upgrade as soon as we clicked SIMS and been in 1 minute later, and that Solus 3 manager has one of the worst user interfaces i have ever had to use. I remember for years on this forum so many of us just wanted a simple MSI we could use with Group Policy or System Centre to deploy SIMS initially , and after that the way Solus 2 handled the upgrade, ie when clicked was fine. What do we get ? Solus 3

I was wondering if they were struggling to find a decent GUI designer.

Looking at new MIS' - Bromcom, SIMS, RM, Pupil Asset

Our Exam Secretary has been using iSAMS for the first time this year for the 2017 exam entries , been SIMS every year before. She absolutely loves iSAMS so far, she was worried about changing MIS but she says Exams is so much easier in iSAMS than in SIMS. We start the teachers using iSAMS for registers and behaviour logs after easter, they have had training and a play around, no negative comments yet, only positive, general comments have been about how much easier it is to use, and i'm very happy because its fully web browser based with phone and tablet apps for staff, parents and pupils. -
Its been years since i did anything with PHP or HTML really, i've got a very small PHP file that just outputs some dates and i just want the background to be blue in those cells/tables. I thought using a CSS would be over kill to specify just 1 change. I just cannot seem to get the syntax correct. Can anyone show me how to change the 2 lines to have the background a different colour? echo ' ',$months[$curmonth],' '; echo ' Date Start Time Category Description ';

The removal of the lower cost iPad Mini option is annoying. Really need a 32GB iPad Mini 4 around the same price the Mini 2 was.

The move to more mobile and cloud solutions is where the world is going, so if you only know Microsoft Windows you might be in for a shock in a few years if that trend continues. Look at this graph Operating system market share Worldwide | StatCounter Global Stats Windows has lost half its usage share to mobile devices in just 3 years. Now in the school office i very much doubt the desktop class OS is going anywhere due to the nature of the job, but the end users i.e. the kids, mobile solutions like iPads are being used more, we support over 750 of them now, and 3 years ago we had 0. We also went from 5 IT suites to 2. So what we are actually supporting in schools is undergoing a big change, just look at the amount of threads about OneDrive.....

What MDM to use (if Meraki is no longer free)

We have used Lightspeed for the last 3 years. Has done the job well. If we were not using that i would go for JAMF. -
It gave them more time a bit of time to go over the areas they were looking at on our website (i.e. which policies ) and double check everything was in order. The Senior team liked it.

We use Google Analytics , and i had a report setup that if the network name contained the word OFSTED to email me. I got a notification one day to say it had a match, i looked at the data, told the head that OFSTED were sniffing round our website, next day we get a call from them to say they are coming in.

Some people use PowerPoint really badly, the worst for me was when at a conference and the reader just read the slides word for word, it was painful. It can be a useful tool when used well just most don't have a clue. This guy shows how to use PowerPoint badly and really well.

Should I stay or should I go now - Smoothwall

We run Fortinets Fortigate as our UTM then have Fortianalyzer for reporting, you can use prebuilt ones or write your own reports in SQL. It works great. I have it set to send me daily security reports about what exploits have been attempted on our internet facing services, and senior leaders get a report with what the kids have been searching for, any sites in certain categories like adult, and we also have a long list of keyword searches that are flagged. Takes some setting up initially and you need to be able to do at least basic SQL code but the end result is good. -
Firefly maybe? Does a lot more than SMHW

Bulk Extract of Data from SIMS - Moving to ISAMS
2ilent8cho replied to ddevey's topic in MIS Systems
Practically all data over now that we need. We will leave the SIMS server running and access it for historical data we have not been able to port over such as linked documents. We go live start of our Summer term so 24th April for us, so got a few more weeks to double check and triple check our data. -
Now if only the government could understand this... people are just not active enough anymore for the amount of energy they are consuming, yes sugar is a high energy product, but you can get overweight by over eating apples and bananas if you consistently consume enough of them there is only about 10 calories difference between a 2 finger kitkat and a banana , quite often on the TV program super skinny vs super fat , the very underweight skinny person would live on sweets, biscuits and crisps.
-
If they put artificial sweetener in their bars i won't buy them. I won't buy low fat or diet versions of anything and i have not for 7 years and i'm the thinest i've ever been now, yet when i was consuming the low fat sugar free crap i was forever dieting and overweight. In fact i found that if i have a diet drink like diet coke i go on a mad binge shortly after as i get extreme sweet cravings from it, yet if i have normal coke, i'm satisfied. So a normal can of coke at 135 calories a few times a month, or a diet coke at 1 calorie then a mega chocolate or buscuit binge at 1000 calories. I wonder which is worse....... Obesity seems to have become worse the more diet products they make. Maybe people should learn to have normal products in moderation and stop consuming crap version pumped full of chemicals like Aspartame.

Sky viewers are set to lose 12 channels - Discovery. TLC, Eurosport
2ilent8cho replied to newpersn's topic in TV & Movies
Sky was great for years, but now? I cancelled it back in 2013, i had seen almost everything, the repeats became silly, then a +1 hour incase you wanted to watch a repeat of the repeat. Which was repeated the day before anyway. Freesat or Freeview, with iPlayer, 4OD , Netflix and maybe Amazon prime is more than enough for my needs now and cheaper than having Sky, and with Netflix and iPlayer no adverts YEY! -
They are all pathetic complaints.
