About ddevey

  1. Hey, thanks for the responses. We're currently running Catalina, but we had the same issues on Mojave. The issue seems to be related to the size of the documents we are trying to print. A file of around 10mb swells to over 300mb by the time it is received by papercut, which kills the print queue. Some larger files that contain photo's are hitting papercut at around 800mb. We are currently operating a 2GB file size limit on papercut, which I think is the same as CUPS but it still causes problems. Direct connections to the printer via USB that bypasses papercut work fine, so I don't believe it's a driver issue. From what I understand it's something to do with CUPS on the macs. I'm looking at a job now that is 1 colour page and papercut is registering it as a 212mb file.
  2. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has any experience of papercut in a purely mac environment. We have "follow me" printing with Papercut running on a mac server, but printing from a Mac just seems to be a nightmare. Sending jobs from Google Chrome fail constantly, they print, but come out half complete (with error's printed across the job) or not at all. Big jobs kill the print queue all together which then has to be restarted. Even some as small as a single pages of photos. The print server is running on a fairly beefy mac pro (trashcan) so it's not a print server spec issue and the network infrastructure is excellent. The only workaround is to download documents from Google as PDF's, then open them in Adobe acrobat and print from there. That tends to fix most issues, but is still inconsistent. We launched Google Cloud print, which seemed to be working quite well (still inconsistent) but then google announced they were killing it from 2020 anyway. I was wondering if anyone had any experience? What solutions do you use for managing print queues in a mac environment? Do you have a way of tracking who's printing what and how much? Which product are you using if so? I'm not adverse to changing products, whether that's the print software or the devices, but it seems to me that Apple is making it harder and harder to manage mac's in an enterprise environment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Thanks for the help. In the end a friend generated a report for me. I do know how to run reports, but for some reason the report I ran introduced missing student ID's and also didn't include siblings. No idea why. I think we're sorted now......
  4. I need to generate a report in SIMS with the following information: Admission Number, Priority, Address Type {Home/Work} Title, Name, Surname, Address, Contact number, email and profession. I basically need all of the contact details stored against a student record. However we have a number of addresses (Fee payer etc) stored as priority 1, 2 and 8. Can anyone tell me how to generate a report that has all the priority addresses in it? I haven't used filters before I know you can choose which priority to extract but I haven't a clue where to start. I'm on a really short deadline so if anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful.
  5. Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows how to access the period ID in SIMS? I am trying to import a timetable from Nova T into ISAMS, but ISAMS needs a unique ID for each period that has to match with NovaT. I can't find a unique ID for each period in NovaT so I'm guessing the ID must be in SIMS somewhere. On our system P1 on a Monday is called S1 in NovaT. P1 on a Tuesday is also called S1 even though it actually runs on different timings to Monday. Where is the ID that differentiates Monday P1 and Tuesday P1? Any clues would be most helpful. Thanks
  6. Thanks for all the help. Very useful indeed. Does anyone know what the output from Cohesion software looks like? I've contacted them, but haven't had a response yet. Can you set it to retain the same folder structure as the Doc server? I've managed to extract all the file paths through SQL, but I need to retain the folder structure to ensure everything links up. Why does Capita encrypt the linked docs anyway? I know there is the "data protection" argument but if that were true, they would encrypt the whole database. There's all sorts of personal information that would fall under the DPA that I can extract with a few SQL commands on the server.
  7. Can I ask how you got on? We have pretty much extracted everything, through a combination of reports and SQL as you originally suggested. How did you get on with extracting linked documents? There doesn't seem to be a concrete answer as to whether it is even possible??
  8. Does anyone know how to extract the document path of any linked documents from SIMS? We are in the process of transitioning to ISAMS and this is the last major data set we have to extract. Capita have been no use whatsoever. Ideally I need to be able to pull the student ID and the corresponding path to the files in the doc server. Looking at the doc server directory structure is no help whatsoever. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Hi, We have taken the decision to move from SIMS to ISAMS. I won't go into the reasoning here (wouldn't want to start a debate!), but I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice. We have the SQL scripts provided by ISAMS that can be run on the system to extract the bulk of the student and staff data and this works (moderately) well, but this doesn't account for anywhere near all the data in the system. File paths to linked documents, SEN, medical, behaviour and achievement, previous schools etc all awol. Can anyone advise me on the best way to get this data out (bearing in mind that this has to be done twice in the transition process so it has to be repeatable - A single bulk export/import at the start, followed by an update export/import just before going live). Did anyone do this by modifying the SQL scripts or through generating reports? SQL scripts are fine, but without a database schema to review it's hard to know which information is stored in which field. Which is the best way to do it? SQL or Reports? Or a combination of both? If anyone has any modified SQL scripts that I could take a look at that do more than the ones provided by ISAMS that would really help. Alternatively I saw in a previous thread someone who offers data extraction services, but I can't find the thread. I'd throw money at this problem if I knew it was going to get done properly. Any help would be very much appreciated.
