You have to re-enable the disabled items in the policy while its pointing to those computers. I think the GPO actually deletes entries from the registry when you disable items and re-enabling them puts those entries back. EDIT: Nope, ignore that last bit. Yes it adds entries into the registry but as Group Policy has the required permissions to write to those keys, you'll either need to give yourself permission to delete them or use the policy to remove them.

I'd guess that this may have affected Shared Computer & Device-based activations of the Office 365 desktop apps as I couldn't do any of this yesterday afternoon either.

I'd say not even that - they're more like a "higher end" Celeron as Pentiums these days are the equivalent of pre-'Coffee Lake' i3s minus the AVX512 extensions.

By the looks of the graphics card, it's more limited in connectivity than the motherboard.

Someone I used to work with always recommended Thinkpads or HP's ProBook line.

Both 250 and 255 as all the model refers to is Intel and AMD respectively. I've replaced the keyboard part of one of these before, it's not something I'd ever recommend nor anything I'd want to do again!

I've found a solution where trying to re-enable a previously disabled button doesn't work but this does require editing the ADM or ADMX file to do. For example: in order to disable "Map Network Drive" it sets a registry dword entry of "ImpliedSelectionModel" which is set to "dec:00000000" and theoretically this is then changed to "dec:00100000" to re-enable the button. However this doesn't quite work as expected (I think later builds of Windows 10 expect a different value) and I had to get the ADMX to delete the reg entry in order for it to enable again.

I did discover this while moving 2 of our display PCs over to W10 yesterday. We're about halfway through our Windows 7 to 10 migration (student PCs done but staff not yet) and we would have sorted this had it not been for recent events. Does anyone know how this Shared Computer Activation works? It's either that or having to use Office 2019 instead which we'd preferred not to have to do, no thanks to Microsoft like a number of companies (yes I'm looking at you Google) like to put short shelf lives on everything they release these days.

Like you say, I used to use inkjets but as I used to print infrequently, the cartridges (or the head in an old Epson I once had) used to dry up and I was forever either running the head clean or buying new ones. I thought I'd be clever one time and buy a whole stack of spare cartridges but these dried up before I had chance to use them. So I chucked the whole lot away and bought a refurb HP LaserJet P1505n from ebay. I still print infrequently but it prints perfectly every time I want to print something.

Wish I'd had internet to have been able to see this earlier. We're with Blizzard Telecom for Internet & Phone (I think) which must use the same equipment.

It's not free, but our school has tended to use MS Publisher for its badge creation as you can set a master page which contains everything that's common on each badge and then you only need to change anything that's different on each individual page. You can set an image placeholder on the master page as well which ensures that any picture you insert on the other pages won't go outside of its boundaries. It seems flexible enough that we've never bothered using anything else. I'd imagine there is a free alternative to Publisher that can do similar if Publisher's not an option.

The IT recyclers we use - Blackmore Ricotech - will also take toners in any condition. I'm not sure if they'll supply a bin or not (as we don't use them for toner recycling oddly) but their website does clearly state that they will take toners.

As title but with approx 175 hours use. I had to scrap the projector it was being used in as it wasn't up to the job anymore and this lamp was a purchase made to try and rectify a brightness fault it had but failed to sort it if that makes sense. I'd like to try and give it to someone with the above projector (or similar compatible model) if possible as I don't like throwing good stuff away. I don't want anything for it (bar postage but I'd imagine that's not much.)

No, Skylake is the last gen to support Windows versions earlier than 10 (even Windows XP if you were that way inclined.) Kaby Lake is the cutoff point where Windows 10 is the only version that is officially supported.

We've only ever had 1 ethernet cable like that and when we started tracing where the cable ran, we found part of it ran across a flat roof where part of it ran next to a Seagull nest. Found they had been pecking away at that while building their nest and of course whenever it rained, water would find its way into the cable at that point in the run.

Looks like the 4GB models are selling out quickly. I was seconds away from clicking submit for one on The Pi Hut when it suddenly flashes up with an Out of Stock message. Ooooh so annoyed.

One of the hardest things I face looking after lots of devices (in this case Chromebooks at a Primary School I'm at 2 days a week) is actually keeping a track of where they are. Thing is that while G Suite can be configured to let you know when a device hasn't been online for a certain amount of time which is useful in telling you which devices are missing, that finding that missing device can take up a lot of my time, especially as I'm often bombarded with other jobs that need doing. They had a HP Chromebook which had been missing for months, Staff were no help as they often can't tell one device from the next and I thought I'd looked high and low for it before deciding to set the device as locked (with a "If found, please return to us" type message.) in the hope that if someone did pick it up to use it that they'd encounter that and hand it in. This proved fruitless as I didn't hear anything again for weeks. I was close to giving up and writing the device off when I decided to have one last thorough attempt at finding it (i.e. going through everyone's cupboards/drawers/etc whether they liked it or not as I really needed to find it.) It eventually turned up at the very bottom of a filing cabinet which had dozens of books chucked on top of it. By some luck, the battery still worked and it powered up with the lock message I'd set. I was very glad to have found it but as said, it took a lot of my time just to find that one (which given I only have 2 days there becomes a waste of my time) and as I write this, I have another (new) one that is showing as missing again with no one knowing where it may have gone.

I keep meaning to come back to this but keep getting waylaid as usual. I have mentioned this to them but they didn't seem impressed at having to get one from there, something about possible import charges and not wanting to pay them. Funnily enough, I've got one (NC200) at home which I rescued when my own school were throwing a load out. Hard to get power adapters for, though we could potentially just keep replacing the batteries. Plus there are games (Tetris clones if I remember correctly) for which the pupil could potentially get distracted playing. Possibility though. They're after a physical keyboard AFAIK. I have suggested an old-ish netbook set to just open wordpad with nothing else but they did seem dead set on an Alphasmart for some reason. I say "did", they've gone rather quiet on the issue so I'm hoping they're looking at other options or just using one of the chromebooks as I do too imagine it'll end up in a cupboard after a year or so.

Primary School I support asked me if we had any AlphaSmarts for which I replied "no" but they're still keen to get at least 1 (and possibly another as a spare if available) as they want a very simple word processor for a SEN pupil that a) doesn't have internet access (or any other distractions), b) long-ish battery life & c) easy to carry around with them. I have put the Apple eMate in the title as well as I know these can be used in the same way (and has an adjustable screen so they're not looking down on the device) but agree may not be good in regards to being distraction free. I have already suggested a locked-down laptop but they don't want this.

I'd imagine there's a VGA port for the small handful of AM4 Athlon CPUs which will have still have some sort of built-in Radeon graphics which will probably still support VGA in some way or another. I didn't realise until a few months ago that Intel stopped support of the VGA output from Skylake onwards and that's it's up to the motherboard manufacturer to put some sort of bridging IC on the motherboard in order to output via the VGA port if there is one and you want to use it.
