"Error trying to get OneDrive settings" after user rename.
MrEprise posted a topic in Cloud Services
Having a bit of a panic attack while trying to sort this one. Renamed a user who either got married or divorced over the summer, and it's something I've done numerous times without issue but this time after the rename, they can't access their OneDrive and I get "Error trying to get OneDrive settings" if I try to access it via 365 admin. I've gone into SharePoint admin and verified that their personal folder still exists as far as that tells me but if I try to access the personal folder, I get "404 FILE NOT FOUND". I've tried renaming the user back but it's not changing the account name or personal site URL back and I've tried removing the OneDrive licence and adding it back in. Reason for the panic attack? We have no backups of any of our 365 tenant anymore. We did have Barracuda until January of this year where the trust stopped paying for it because it was deemed "too expensive" and there hasn't been any budget to buy any sort of replacement for it. We did also have access to our backup archive until yesterday when they'd sent an email informing us that we'd be losing it all. So you can imagine how I might be feeling right around now. 😢 -
Depends when they're added to your MIS and when the sync runs. We usually have to give it between 24 to 48 hours before they appear on ours.

We started off with a branch of Future Zone which back in the day, had the same vibe as Gamestations had. I felt like I was on first name terms with all the staff that worked there, plus the store manager was a family friend from years before. Then it became Electronics Boutique. The staff were there for a few more years until they started messing things up and the workers I knew had gone elsewhere. Then it became a Game and it just wasn't the same. Around that time, we also had a Gamestation open up and it felt just like the Future Zone we used to have. Always super busy as well compared to Game which was often almost empty. Then the inevitable happened and we lost our Gamestation and the really nice staff that worked there.

Brenda Fricker, Oscar winner for My Left Foot, dies aged 81
MrEprise replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
She was also the Pigeon lady in Home Alone 2 which I imagine a lot of people will know her primarily from that. -
This is the same issue we've had, but for us it's duplicated Student records. It only started happening when someone from Inventry remoted in to fix missing Student records and it made things a lot worse. Unfortunately, they never did fix it and I know of no way to fix it myself.
-
It used to, then I changed the configuration of it and it doesn't anymore. We had an issue where 2 students weren't being synced across, so I contacted support to get them to rectify it. I ended up contacting them 4 times in all because they kept making it worse with each support call. Where we had 2 students not showing, we now have several not showing and many duplicates showing on the front screen. I can't now get that rectified as our support has lapsed and I can't get it renewed as our reseller seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. I want to ditch Inventry but there's no money to either.

Used to get that a lot with old cover disks/CDs where they'd give you the full version of a software product completely free, but print somewhere what it's normally worth i.e. £199.00. The original cost ended up being immaterial, especially as you'd load it up and see exactly why they were giving it away for free.

At the point of renewal a year or so ago, they told us that this would be converted to a SaaS license whether we wanted it to be or not. We didn't renew at the time due to budget-flow issues so we're still on our existing perpetual license. The only drawback for us is we're stuck on 8.6.26 which doesn't allow for Manifest V3 on our Chromebooks. As it stands, theoretically we ought to be able to run our Impero server without internet access but anyone on the SaaS license might run into difficulty I'd think.

To be honest, we don't have the space either and I'm finding myself moving the cage often as the spaces I use get earmarked for something else. This is where a bin would have been of more use as it could have lived outside but We Trade Tech said they couldn't give us a bin either (though that might have been due to the bins going missing/being used for other things.) At the moment, I've plonked it in the exam table store but it can't really stay there either.

The only thing I found with Enviro Electronics is that when I requested a large wheelie bin, they told me that due to our location, it wouldn't be cost effective for them to do so and wanted to do a pickup there and then. Unfortunately due to my working setup, I wasn't able to commit to giving that much time to running around our site to pick up old/broken equipment for them to take (given we have no single place to put said old/broken equipment.) In the end we went with We Trade Tech and they left us a cage to put all our waste in and I can do it all at my leisure.

How can it be Senso if it was happening to you on your personal machine at home!?

I've had HP desktops do strange things like this before. In my last place had a dc7700 which after shutting it down (or forcibly turning it off) would just turn itself back on again. Where I needed a temporary makeshift server for something, I used this PC as we couldn't really use it anywhere else and it meant it couldn't be accidently turned off in any way where it couldn't be easily restarted. I guessed this probably had a bad flash of the BIOS or AMT firmware at some point.

I'm glad it isn't just us with the issue. I did find out it was happening at other schools in our Trust but as we all use Smoothwall, I'd presumed it might have been a caching issue or something but couldn't get to the bottom of it. I've got a few members of staff who use the new web outlook where this happens very frequently. It'll do it for a few days, sort itself then start doing it again, though it seems to pick users at random. One particular member of staff it happens to, is the type to act like it's the end of the world for them and start complaining to SLT that the computers are carp. I keep telling them it's not limited to our school but...

Smoothwall blocking access to Arbor MIS
MrEprise replied to toffee_paul's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Not Arbor in our case, but we did recently have an issue with Calendly being blocked by Smoothwall. I also tracked it down to a JavaScript library commonly used by Porn sites (including Child Porn sites worryingly) which was subsequently being blocked under the Child Porn category The fix for me in the end was to add the JS library to an Allow category above the one blocking the JS library in the policies list and applying the category to Staff only. -
Lamp vs Laser Projectors any advice
MrEprise replied to chrisbagnall's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
As much as I'd like to replace almost all the projectors we have with laser models or tv's, we're on the school rebuild waiting list and I have to maintain our existing projector fleet until we either get a rebuild or refurbishment as no one's willing to invest in them until then. As I've been told by a member of the DfE, they will provide the school with interactive tv's or laser projectors when the time comes, but until then it's a case of continuing to buy lamps for what we've already got. The only saving grace is we've got networked Epson projectors across the site so I can at least do some level of power management using EMP Monitor, which has reduced the frequency of lamp replacements within a year. -
I'm getting the above error when I try to renew or replace the certificate on Mosyle. Has anyone encountered this before and know whether this is a Mosyle issue or Apple issue? It's on a free-tier account that I set up a few years ago and intended to move our iPads onto but other stuff got in the way and I never really did anything on as we were still using Meraki and it was working fine. With that being discontinued I need something to move our remaining iPads onto in the meantime and I thought as I had this half-setup, why not make use of it but I can't get past the first hurdle.

ViewSonic quality is not like it used to be. 2x 24" monitors bought back in 2022 both failed with the same fault (display chip causing artifacts on screen) last year and it was also silly money to repair them, so I've kept them as spares as the display panels are in good condition. All the other brands we've bought since then are all still going strong.

The ProDesk 400s tend to be cut down in more ways than one as they're designed to be a budget option for those who can't afford or don't need the ProDesk 600, or the EliteDesk 800 PCs. I've got a ProDesk 400 G2.5 sat next to me and it won't support more than 16GB of RAM or CPUs more than 65W TDP.

I almost feel like we're working in the same school. We used to have desktops in every room, most teachers had 1 monitor & some with 2 but everyone had their computers set up to connect to a projector. Prior to the summer of 2024, I rarely if ever had to go out to sort a projector or speaker connection issue in any of the teaching rooms - it all just worked leaving me with time for other things. Since then I have had no end of weird issues where our docks also have display issues, disconnections and moments where our laptops can't find the docks as a valid audio output device. Most of the tickets on the helpdesk are usually to help a teacher connect their laptop to the projector as the dock in their room has again malfunctioned even though I can't find any logical reason for it not to work. It's even worse when supply teachers connect laptops to the docks as they're actually less likely to figure out the setup on their own and I subsequently get called out to these teachers on a regular basis also. We've tried telling staff if in doubt to use Win+P and select either extend or duplicate but this isn't foolproof as the docks again have a mind of their own and this only works successfully in some rooms. Like you, I did protest that this would not go as smoothly as they think it would, especially where we couldn't do any testing of these setups before putting the whole thing into production from day 0 but my concerns were also brushed off. This all turned out to be part of a long-term plan where as we just had an old RoSLA building demolished, we had limited classroom spaces and growing student intake numbers so staff were expected to move around to different classrooms where the IT setup would mirror all the other rooms and staff have a laptop where they weren't having to worry about logging onto desktops then logging off at the end of lessons, rather than having their own rooms with the existing setups. It wasn't an issue during Covid so I don't quite get why it became a problem now? As it turned out, this never came to fruition (and nor will it) and yet I'm to continue supporting this setup despite teachers never leaving their rooms. I remember a while back, a member of Trust staff came round to project manage the conversion of one of our IT rooms back into a standard classroom (that never should have happened either but who was I to say otherwise...) and he came out with a comment which irked me a bit. He was surprised our school was still using desktops in teaching rooms whereas all the other schools in the Trust had now all switched over to laptops and we were the odd ones out. This turned out to be a fib as there was only 2 primaries and 1 secondary who were using laptops, the rest still deploying desktops for teacher use. From that, I got the impression they'd try and switch us over - I just didn't know in what way. Having had to support the secondary who do use laptops recently, it's not quite how it was portrayed to me. Most teachers use a laptop but some have managed to keep a desktop as they felt it much easier to use to teach with. As I've found here, although we had a few teachers who were overjoyed to get a laptop, a lot of teachers weren't and I've ended up giving some of those teachers a desktop for much the same reason. Admittedly I'd like to put desktops back in all the classrooms (for ease of management if anything) but as I ended up re-purposing the desktops for Music, I don't have many to give back out and no one will entertain buying any more to put back in for teacher use.

Microsoft: We’re deprecating Office A1 Plus EDU licenses
MrEprise replied to chazzy2501's topic in Cloud Services
When I contacted our supplier, they suggested that as we're already paying for OVS-ES (which is what gives us the A1 licences & technically A1 Plus for as long as it'll last) that we could get the 365 Apps licences for no extra cost. The only drawback to it is that instead of the million licences of A1 Plus, you'll only get your FTE count + however many student licences you need. I did manage to get them to add some extras to cover us for supply teachers and the like. -
School Wi-Fi Upgrade – Seeking Advice on UniFi Deployment
MrEprise replied to leewakelam's topic in Wireless Networks
I remember how good the original UAP's were, that in my last school we'd deployed a single one to serve a whole 1970's RoSLA building without any significant drop in signal degradation. That's how good they were. Admittedly we didn't have classes of 32 kids logging onto laptops in that building but it served the needs of those who did use it just fine. -
Dell used to have something similar. When it worked, it was pretty much set and forget.
