  1. Been there, done that. Most of my ER DVD sets have gone like this but WB won't deal with anyone in the UK so I had to buy them all again. Turns out it mostly affects DVDs manufactured at the Cinram mastering plant in Olyphant, Pennsylvania where the makeup of the chemical used to make the data layer was incorrectly manufactured.
  2. Most of these companies do see it as an opportunity to get extra revenue out of us, regardless of whether you're a poor school or a fortune 500 company. The Cunninghams one is rather annoying given we're paying up to £6k for service and support per year for example but as @FN-GM suggests, they've probably written a clause into their contracts that allows them to charge when a MIS change is happening. I've paid out almost £3k in these costs having changed MIS recently and it has helped make one budget overspent as a result!
  3. The only 2 that spring to mind that I remember seeing him in (and liked) are No Way Out and The Birdcage.
  4. Cars can be if you have the time, money and inclination to do it. A friend of mine had inherited his Grandfather's Ford Zodiac Mk4 Executive which had pretty large holes in the floorpan from being sat in a field for the best part of 3 decades. His Dad with oodles of time on his hands eventually fixed it and you'd never really notice where the holes had been as he'd had the replacement panels properly bashed into shape.
  5. In my last school I recall their sets were quite expensive so only 1 teacher had the gyro mouse with keyboard set. Looking at Gyration now, looks like they've given up on the gyro mice and just focus on CCTV solutions.
  6. By all means consider Ricoh if they have what you require; for us last August it wasn't a good first impression and a rocky start and we've still some outstanding issues as of now. It mostly ranges from incorrectly setup copiers, some broken on arrival, some breaking down on a regular basis, engineers turning up early on & not knowing why and some missing parts which have only just turned up. One of our Trust schools still has an issue where if several jobs are released, it'll print the first one or two, then cancel any other jobs. They're not without issues and It's not filled me with much confidence to be honest. Despite what's been said about Kyocera in terms of reliability, ours were very reliable and their engineers were always on the ball for the few times we did have issues. I'd be very happy go back to them at this point but time will tell.
  7. That's it. It was set to "All day, every day" and I suppose that just holds the door open indefinitely?
  8. I had it set to 7 seconds on the door open time which I think is the default and only "relay 1 open for door open time". It did briefly go back to all three lights on the reader but when I put a card over the reader, it opened the door and is stuck open with the flashing LED again.
  9. As title. We've just had this installed but I've been left to sort the software side of it out and I've no idea how to sort this out as nothing I do seems to change anything. The readers are permanently flashing with a green LED and under "Open Door" on the toolbar, door shows as "Unlocked" highlighted in red but trying to "close" door under this menu is ignored. I've contacted Paxton who sent me a troubleshooting guide but this also hasn't made any difference. I tried "Reinstate" on the ACU as was suggested by @mavhc earlier but this is no longer taking effect and the readers just go straight to the green flashing LED. Please help as I'm trying to sort this out with a door which is in constant active use?
  10. I guess the next issue I have is that when I scan a card, the controller holds the door open but doesn't then lock again?
  11. Yep, that seems to have worked.
  12. Nope, it isn't working.
  13. Very simple question, when clicking the "Open Door" button for a controller in Net2 Access Control, how do I close the door again as it's now stuck open?! Installer was no help as he knows nothing about the software side of these installations. I have a flashing green light on both readers.
  14. Yes, I've certainly noticed issues with the software such as final totals that seem to be off by a few pence, and no amount of bashing figures into a calculator will make it tally up. Even my own budgets seem to be showing as overspent despite spreadsheets I keep showing otherwise. One of my budgets shows as quite considerably overspent since 2 already paid for requisitions from 3 years ago have shown up in my 24-25 budget as something I've spent money on, despite me not actually adding them in. Another "Post Office"-type scandal perhaps?
  15. We did this fairly recently and bought all the kit from ICT Direct to boot - HP Elitebook 840 G6 + 8GB RAM upgrade (total 16GB), the G4 USB-C dock & an additional 22" Dell monitor for each teacher. It has worked fine for the most part and most of our teachers were just able to plug in and go with it but we have had a few hiccups. We have 4 problem rooms where the docks don't seem to work for the teachers who use those rooms and we're not yet quite sure whether it's the docks or user error. Also, as the docks are effectively "refurbished", we've had a few of these die where we think they've just reached that point of having some internal failing components, couple of USB-C cables that have also stopped working for whatever reason, 2 failed PSUs, etc... but I think that's the risk you take with refurbished kit sometimes. The laptops on the other hand have been just fine. It's no sleight on ICT Direct as they're dealing with refurbished kit which could have come from anywhere, plus they've been excellent with replacements but it's something to take into account.
  16. In some scenarios possibly. However, if the PC part fails outside warranty and can't be repaired, then you have a monitor you can't use anymore... alternatively if the monitor part fails outside warranty or is smashed by a Student then you have a PC you can't really use properly. I'd rather just have a mini PC bolted to the back of a monitor for ease of maintainability.
  17. I recall someone on here (I think it may have been @ICTDirect_Dave) basically saying avoid HP ProDesk anything as the hardware in these aren't made to the same standard as the EliteDesks and are more prone to failure.
  18. You have to be careful when converting DP to HDMI and back again as I've run into issues where the signal doesn't convert properly and some passive cables don't always work correctly. Certainly converting from HDMI on the PC to DP on the monitor is the more troublesome conversion but the reverse can be a bit problematic as well.
  19. It's maybe worth checking where VirtualBox writes Virtual disk changes to as it usually doesn't immediately write changes to the VDI file, instead writing the changes to a temporary file and committing the changes later on. Alternatively, they might be just writing code that crashes Windows Explorer and that's what gives them the idea it's VirtualBox.
  20. Thanks, I thought as much but I just wanted to make sure I had an appropriate reply to "is there a way we can stop this happening next time?" since the moment we clear his about me page, and give him back access to his account, he'll likely just add it all back in.
  21. If your self-built PC started up okay, everything worked and it hasn't blown up yet then I'd say your build quality is probably fine.
  22. I've been asked to investigate whether it's possible to remove permission for a user to edit their own 'About Me' page for their account as we've had a Student write some really derogatory & inappropriate stuff in theirs. I don't think there is a way and after a quick look can't find anything to support the idea that's it's possible, but I ought to ask here as maybe there's someone who has run into the same issue and might know something I don't?
  23. Depending on firmware, the UniFi cameras can output via RTSP and the Abus NVR may be recording those feeds.
  24. I found that Quick Assist was already on our PCs (think it's a part of Windows 10 & 11 by default) and all I had to do was push a shortcut out onto our Staff start menu, pointing to "c:\Windows\System32\QuickAssist.exe".
  25. It's only needed for Terminal Services sessions, otherwise no.
