I could probably just unblock each url that comes up but there's a fair number of games.

Is there a way to unfilter a specific file type for a single website? I've been asked to unfilter mathsframe.co.uk as a bit of a reward for some of the students in Maths but it's not unfiltering properly. Basically, some of the games have a .js file which Smoothwall keeps blocking under "Child Abuse/Pornography" and looking a bit closer, I've found they've tried to implement a naughty-word filter into some of the game files, which understandably is tripping this category. I don't want to unfilter .js files for all websites if I can help it but I'm not sure if what I want can be done either?

We've had a load of ASUS Chromebooks. Can't say I was all that happy with them. We have 163 of the C202X. They are coming up to 4 years old and we're seeing the emmc storage failing on a lot of them (so far, a class set worth.) Another issue we've had is where the ribbon cable for the touchpad works itself loose and it requires taking the Chromebook apart to reseat the cable. We also have a few of these as well where they will only turn on if you do a Hard Reset first. We also have 15 of the ASUS C223NA model as well, which is a slightly newer model and we've got 3 of these now which will charge but not power on. Based on past experience, Acer were reliable but the cases were prone to breakage, Dell & HP were the most reliable. We've also got 2 class sets of Lenovo Chromebooks to replace some of the C202X's which so far, so good!

I think it's a general issue with the Geobooks - they do that loud hissing periodically even when running W10 on them. Students often bring them to us when they're doing that exclaiming "I think it's about to explode!"

That's right. I think it was highlighted in another thread that 24H2 now requires Population Count, which isn't present in any Core2 CPU but was first introduced in 1st-gen i3/5/7 CPUs.

Having now looked into it a bit, I notice that the 800 G5 mini and SFFs also show a Thunderbolt option. I can't find any G6 SFF desktops for sale so it might have to be a G5 I think.

Since it's a model you sell, that might be right up my street!

Are anyone aware of any Business SFF desktops with native Thunderbolt support over USB-C? Trying to set up a desktop for our Music dept to interface with a PreSonus Quantum 2626 which has a Thunderbolt port. I did have @ICTDirect_Dave quote me for a laptop with Thunderbolt (thanks!) but we'd rather have a desktop (or tower).

Not sure about the Chromebook versions of these but I recall seeing a few posts on Reddit where people were recommending updating the USB-C controller firmware on the Windows 100e and 300e, as the firmware version these shipped with would cause the controllers to slowly die and stop taking any power.

ScoMIS schools I suspect. We received it and so did another in our Trust who use the ScoMIS hosted SIMS service. Another school in our Trust who uses Arbor didn't get any of these emails.

I did this fairly recently on an old Late-2009 iMac which allowed me to upgrade it to macOS 13 Ventura. It works well enough without issue (I've not run into any yet) and since I only use it to manage our iPads, it's absolutely fine for that.

There is so much wrong with that statement. Indeed in our case, we were given 3 options of which "consider adopting a new MIS" was one of them but there certainly was no mention of any specific provider. As it is, we're only going with On-premise as a stop-gap solution until we can jump ship and the more schools the better I really think.

Many of our Teachers would love to move away from SIMS, even when you consider that launching it on an alternate platform can be rather clunky especially in this day and age. It's certainly doable but we probably shouldn't have to really. Some Admin staff are a bit apprehensive but I think many would pick it up quite quickly if given a chance.

This is something that worries me in losing our support with them. I've worked now in 2 Secondaries and had to support a number of Primaries in those schools. All these schools have had some level of service/support provided by ScoMIS and in every dealing I've had with them, they've always been positive experiences and always managed to come to some sort of solution or resolution, even in a few cases writing their own third-party utilities to fix issues that ESS (and before that, Capita ES) were seemingly never able to fix themselves. The only saving grace is, they'll be the ones helping us move (albeit temporarily) back to a on-premise setup, but I'm not looking forward to after 31st March next year when our support defaults back to ESS.

According to our account manager, there is or has been a legal tussle between ESS and ScoMIS effectively forcing them to withdraw from SIMS hosting/support in 2025. I'm actually none too happy to find out that we're ending up moving to SIMS on-premise until the Trust are in a position to move away (which they're not right now.)

It's Primary schools who are going to be hit hardest with the loss of Publisher. One Primary our Trust supports uses it to generate their end of year Pupil reports and they also create mid-term flipbooks (which detail what that year group has been up to) using it too.

Yes, I believe the temporary fix (or at least for us) was to boot each Mac into Safe Mode which would delete a large chunk of the files it was generating, then reboot back into Normal Mode.

Oh I certainly will do. Some of the site owners don't seem to budge though. My latest fight is with Zenergi, whose meter reading portal has a certificate that expired on the 4th and they've not done anything about it despite my support query asking them to. These site owners should be renewing before the certificates expire, not after!

That's not good especially given it's resolving to http as well! Yeah, that's fine, I'll continue saying no and offering to get the voucher code for them as I can bypass it for myself.
