We have the following in most places; CPU-57 PC Suspension Bracket with Slide Rails They allow the mounting of quite a few different sizes of case including mounting a desktop horizontally under a desk, & these also have sliding rails. Only thing you have to watch with these is because it uses luggage-style straps, you have to secure the buckles in some way to stop the little darlings from undoing the straps and letting the PCs drop to the floor. We've got fairly strong cable-ties which deter the majority of students as these require really sharp scissors to cut through, and our students don't usually have access to sharp scissors. Apart from that little issue, we have found these to be really good otherwise and have no qualms about recommending them. Plus they're cheap-ish too.

Im curious whether you've tried it with another graphics card. I say this because a while back we had a Teacher bring his PC in with a Widescreen Monitor he had just bought the day before, it worked right up until the point it entered windows, even after we connected it to a CRT and set the PC to 640x486 16-colour. Tried it with another computer - which it worked fine with. Then we swapped the graphics card in his machine with another similar one we had lying around. Worked straight away after that - it just didn't like that original card for some reason. Something to think about anyway. EDIT: If you decide not to try the above and still want to get rid of it, i'd be quite happy to take it off your hands.

I've noticed recently that Windows 7 now supports burning ISO images to CDs or DVDs.

Surprisingly, yes it does. We do have two boxes (in SCR configuration) both with 16GB of RAM and after a month cannot complain one bit. The 16GB was recommended to us by a local company who installed our setup. They originally started installing Exchange 2007 servers for other clients with the recommended 8GB of RAM, then found it to be a little bit sluggish at peak times. After a lot of testing, they found that Exchange ran happier at 16GB.

Here's a good reason why Exchange 2007 needs to be 64-bit - our school consists of roughly 1500 users (staff & students combined) all with their own exchange mailboxes. Where we could originally get away with using Exchange 2003 on a server with about 2-3 gigabytes of RAM, with the same 1500 users, Exchange 2007 requires a whopping 16GB of RAM. Said Exchange 2007 setup would be falling over daily if it were running in a 32-bit enviroment*. *I'm well aware that 32-Bit Exchange 2007 is an evaluation-only version, so don't point that out. However, you can still use the 32-bit management tools with the 64-bit version, so glad that I found that one out.

The thing you've got to watch with some of the E5xxx Processors (especially the E5200) is that they use odd .5x clock multipliers. In this case, the E5200 uses a 12.5x and I found - after buying a E5200 when it first came out I might add - that many low to mid-end motherboards (including many mATX boards) at the time didn't support .5x multipliers. Did find one after a bit of searching though. Since the E5200 is a Wolfdale chip and the ASRock motherboard is advertised as supporting Wolfdale processors, your workmate may be lucky and may find that it will work fine. But that isn't a guarantee, unfortunately. If you can find out whether your board uses .5x multipliers, then he should be able to go ahead with the chip he wants, otherwise it's a case of either a new board to go with the chip or a different chip. EDIT: I ought to add that it was in the BIOS that I found out that the original board I wanted to use didn't support .5x multipliers - that and the fact it wouldn't boot up at all!

While this tip is a good one, the clipboard can be bypassed altogether by changing the pipe to a ">" which redirects screen output to an output device of your choosing or a text file. example: ipconfig /all > ip.txt typing the above will redirect the screen output to a text file called "ip.txt" - as long as you put the > symbol and the name of the text file you want to output the results to after the command (and its switches), AFAIK you can use this for almost any command within the Command Shell. This one also works in OS'es as far back as MS-DOS.

See attachments to see what I mean. Found this completely by accident, have closed and reopened IE7, cleared cache, restarted, tried a different PC but still happening. I thought it could be an issue with our filter (SWGfL RM Safetynet) but it wasn't happening this morning AFAIK so i'm thinking that it may not be. I have also noticed that the number of undefined's depends on the character length of the username and the colours seem to be random.

The issue with MP3s in Windows 7 is only when you use Windows Media Player or Explorer to edit the metadata of an MP3 with a header larger than 16 kilobytes or allow WMP to do it for you which then corrupts the MP3 by cutting the first few seconds of the audio. This is then irreversible and requires a patch for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Source and more info here

I have about 25 magicolor 2400 series toners sitting in a store room basically collecting dust since we threw out the 6 2430DL's we used to have. Ideally I would like to sell them for about £60 +p&p each but I am willing to take reasonable offers - especially if you buy the lot. I have both sealed boxed toners as well as a load of sealed loose ones which came as part of several value packs we bought over time. The strangest thing about this for me is that I was only looking him up on Wikipedia and Youtube the week before last - after something we were doing with our Art Department, I suddenly started thinking about him, about how he seemed to be still going strong, etc... Just this morning, just as I was waking up I heard my parents mention something about someone previously having strokes (at this time, I had no idea who had died) and suddenly Tony Hart pops up into my mind - not sure why since I can't hear much when i'm asleep. I suddenly start thinking about how he had 2 strokes and how I wished that someone could come up with a way of restoring use of his hands so he could draw and appear on telly again (funny the type of things you think about when you're half asleep) Then I come on here and find out that he's passed away, then realise how strange the mind works sometimes. Like most of you, I also used to watch him alot when I was younger. Tony, you will be very missed.

Are you by any chance talking about one of these; 3M United States - My Workspace - Ergonomic Mouse Our Adult & Community Learning Dept. bought one of these a few years ago for one of the PCs in their computer suite - each time I go down there to fix a problem, I always have a go with it. It's certainly a lot more comfortable to use than a standard mouse but with anything like this which isn't the norm, is quite awkward to get the hang of.

Our current policy is that our staff members are not permitted unfiltered access and that the filtered proxy address is set each time they log in. What I didn't know - until recently, when it was highlighted by one of our techs - that a few staff members had been changing the proxy address to the unfiltered one and going onto a whole host of disallowed websites (facebook, youtube, etc...) without our knowledge. That's one hole I had to fix rather quickly!

At least i'm not the only one experiencing this problem - had to unfilter edugeek in order to get here. I'm really hoping they sort it soon, makes shopping for new servers a tiny bit difficult. Think i'm gonna have to unfilter a proxy site just to do some work.

You need to ensure you prefix the 'setup' command with the drive letter and path of the exchange 2007 install disc or network location (e.g. d:\setup.exe) or otherwise Windows will assume you're running Windows Setup and moan about starting it from Control Panel.

You're all kidding, right? We have 212 Foxconn motherboard based PCs (with SIS900 ethernet controllers), all with fairly heavily modified copies of Windows XP, we've got the latest copy of Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 fully patched up, and we've never had any problems with cloning them. However, this may be because of the way the SIS900 is implemented on our Foxconn motherboards which probably explains something.

Don't feel bad about that, we recently bought about 150 used/re-claimed/refurbished HP d530 SFF PCs and of about one quarter of those, the PSUs have already gone kaput - we do get a nice light show with those though I will admit. Since the PSUs for ours cost £60+, we just keep going back to the company we bought them from who very kindly keep sending us replacements and have started telling us not to bother sending the dead ones back, which gives us a chance to re-case those. I don't know what we'll do when they stop doing this nice service for us since we don't have much of a budget to buy PSUs right now.

If those printers as shown on their website are the ones they're offering, i'd be very cautious about signing up for their printers. We bought 6 of these (konica minolta magicolor 2430dl) back in mid 2005 for our admin staff when we decided to switch to printing letters with colour letterheads and we had no end of various problems with them, with us even resorting to contacting konica minolta - while quite helpful - kept sending out engineers to repair parts of the printers which then kept breaking again. A year later we just decided to bin all 6 of them and buy replacement HP Color Laserjet 2600n printers. Since putting them in - apart from replacing toners - we haven't heard so much of a peep from admin staff regarding printer breakdowns. EDIT: Forgot to mention, toners are at least £80 for each colour, £50 for the black.
