I'd say you bought the wrong class of Netgear switches as those look like they're meant for home use rather than business use, whereas the GS105 for example is more suited to business use and more likely to cope better on larger networks. If money is tight, I'd certainly recommend sending the GS205s back and getting GS105s instead, however if budget allows I personally think you'd be better off with the 8-port version of these: HP 1810 Switch Series

Not sure whether this might be of any use: Rackmount Monitor Kit - PS/2 & USB It's a KVM rack drawer where you supply the monitor yourself and it's a cheaper option if you've got a spare one kicking about or can source one fairly cheap.

That's odd, the link I posted earlier definitely linked to a page with an MSI, now it's an EXE - what gives? EDIT: In future if you (or anyone else) wants just an MSI, you need to search for Works632_en-US.msi as this is the one I have and AFAIK I think it's newer than the one on Microsoft's site.

AFAIK, a reverse lookup zone would be required to be able to perform recursive DNS queries as this process is resolving an IP address to a name rather than a simple query which resolves names to IPs - check to see if you have one set (or still have one if you did before) as this may be causing problems. I'm not 100% sure but its something to check.

I'd say the connection to the server is being rather unstable at the moment. When I can connect it keeps chucking me off a few seconds later then minecraft tells me the server can't be reached. It's been doing this for about the last 5-6 hours at most. Previous to this it has been fine.

Unfortunately, as much as I hate to say so, you've only just registered therefore its not likely to happen. As Localzuk has plainly said, you need to have been around here for a while (i.e. registered for a while and actively participating here a fair bit) before you'd be allowed on.

Can I play too? I quite liked the social aspect when playing on the edugeek server until people more or less disappeared. Then obviously the server went offline. I've been playing in single player mode on and off since but it really isn't the same. Username is cjshields84.

I think I was probably the last person on the server, then I tried to log on the next day and found it offline! I agree with @fairm010 it had ended up getting rather boring though.

We had a VXL Itona thin client with a broken power supply. So I bought a cheap 60W PicoPSU, a Disk-on-Chip and have re-purposed this as a UniFi AP Controller. The next one I get, i'll use in conjunction with XIBO.

I must confess i'm really only fact-finding at the moment to see if this is possible, there's no guarantee that I'll get funding even for this though if I can present it as a lower-cost option vs replacing the PCs (tested them with a card so know they'll be quick enough for what they're used for) then hopefully my line-managers will give me a green light to go ahead. @3s-gtech 30 of those would allow us to do at least one suite so would be very greatful for those should we get the okay to do this.

As above really. Any job lots please of 140+ Video cards to upgrade some older PCs with graphics which don't work under Windows Vista/7. At least GeForce FX 5200 or Radeon 9600 and above, both AGP and PCI-e and looking at around £10 a card if possible. Cards with single outputs welcome. Anything that provides basic acceleration and driver support in at least Windows Vista.

There's a console extension called "Right Click Tools" which will allow you to do this and much more it seems.

I guess I came off quite lucky then... A few months ago, I removed Classlink v7 from our federated Primary. Halfway through the uninstall, it threw up an error; clicked OK though and it still seemed to uninstall okay. About a week later I'd discovered a couple of Group policies and a bunch of scripts (which we were still using) were missing; assumed removed by the Classlink uninstall, I thought "no problem, i'll just restore these from a backup". I think if it hadn't been for that error during uninstall, I really dread to think about what the situation might have been - especially as their backups at the time weren't backing up System State data. And no, having a backup didn't cross my mind at the time. Lucky really.

You don't need bad RAM to produce that screen effect, a stick not making a good connection on all pins in the RAM slot is enough to end up with varying degrees of screen corruption/artifacts.

It may have done. Some of their updates have done strange things with some of the Macs i've come across.

Have you tried a different brand of CD media? Sounds to me like the drive doesn't like the particular brand you're using.

I'm guessing after looking at the Acer drivers page that the Audio Device is a Realtek one. Realtek are fairly good at supplying XP drivers even if OEMs don't so you might find a working driver here: Realtek Software: Drivers & Utilities. Chances are however if that's not the right driver, there's bound to be one somewhere on their site. I'm also reasonably sure that the "PCI Simple Communications Controller" is a management controller, more specifically the Intel iAMT controller in which I was able to find a driver for that on Intel's website. I have a link for that one too: AMT: Intel® AMT Driver for Intel Desktop Boards . Compared to the version on the Acer site, this one's supposedly older (it says Latest though) but it's meant to work with XP also.

I certainly wouldn't like to try it. It was a long shot so not too worried about it but thought it'd be nice to have serial no's incase our insurance company request them. However... If it may be possible to interrogate the firmware how would I possibly go about doing this? I'm thinking I could get the SNs from the other units and go through a process of elimination.

Out of curiosity, does anyone happen to know if the Serial Number on a BenQ MX660 Projector is printed anywhere else other than the bottom of the unit? I.e. if one's Tech Dept. has had a fire and the bottom of the Projector looks like melted cheese but the top and insides are relatively intact. We have all the S/N's for these Projectors (about 10) but no one's written which rooms they were mounted in and I'm trying to find an easy way to obtain the S/N for this particular Projector. Has anyone tried setting up a Windows Server 2008 Child Domain at another SWGfL connected school before? Or know of any documentation or guidance on how to go about this (mostly in regards to using an RM supplied connection)? Our situation is that we have our existing Domain which we'd like to extend to our other site (Primary School) by way of a Child (or Sub) Domain. Both sites are connected to the internet via SWGfL. I have opened up all the ports detailed on this page: Active Directory and Active Directory Domain Services Port Requirements except for Ports 25 and 53 as RM disallow opening these up. I have a server on our Primary School site ready to go (Windows Server 2008 R2, DNS set to point back to Main site, all updates installed and AD DS role added) and have configured both DNS at our Main site to replicate between DCs throughout the forest and AD Sites and Services with the Primary School set up as a second site. I don't think i've left anything out but we'll soon see. I run dcpromo, select 'Create a new domain in an existing forest', then on the Network Credentials dialogue I enter our existing domain FQDN and alternate credentials, click Next; it comes up with 'Enumerating Domains' at this point so I know something's working as anything else I type in as a domain name fails simply after clicking Next. It does this for a while then I get the following error... --------------------------- Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard --------------------------- The wizard cannot access the list of domains in the forest. The error is: The network path was not found. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- ..At which point I can go no further. Searching on that error, I get many results which suggest a DNS error which I kind of guessed might be the downfall here. So has anyone successfully done this using the method I described or is there another way?

I've had a similar issue in W7 where it would take anywhere around 5 to 60 mins to get from the fading windows logo to actually logging in. Found out in the end this was being caused by the following windows update: KB971033 - Update for Windows Activation Technologies. Whatever it was doing was delaying the time windows took to login. Of course YMMV but i've encountered a few PCs where this was the underlying cause.

As far as I know, Option 60 should be the name of your WDS server in order for WDS to know where to pickup DHCP addresses from when a client boots from network. This is the only thing I think I had to change on our setup for clients to be able boot into WDS. Options 66 & 67 for us are set to an entirely different server to allow for Thinstation to work so i'm not sure they're required. Not sure if this will help but hopefully might point you in the right direction.
