Couple of things here. Almost all of HP protocols are industry standard and will talk to just about any other manufacturer's switch on those protocols. Any half decent VAR will be able to help you with this. HP transceivers will talk to non HP transceivers. FN-GM, I think a lot of people refer to transceivers as GBICS as a generic term. HTH

Have you looked at the Fortimail product? As the previous poster said, it's not cheap but the old adage of "Cheap, Fast, Good - pick any two" generally applies to security products.

Hi Adam There are a number of trade-up/upgrade options available through Fortinet partners. I presume you have something like AP320 APs and an MC3200 controller, in which case you're probably looking at an AC or AC wave 2 solution. I suggest contacting Fortinet UK who will put you in touch with a reputable partner.

I had a customer once with a QSAN which exhibited similar problems after a couple of years. It may not be the same but a memory upgrade cured the problem completely. Hope this helps.

Any half decent reseller would have done a pre and post site survey using Ekahau to produce actual, not predicted heatmaps. Changing rooms and toilets are often specifically stated as not required or not essential when it comes to planning wireless deployment. However, if it is on the heat map, there should be some connectivity. In the survey report, does it also show SNR, Packet loss data etc for those areas?

Splicecom has recently introduced a new offering called Select Voice. The admin interface for those who know it has not been the best gui in the world but SV changes that as it is 100% new. Pricing is also much simpler and cheaper with better support for 3rd party SIP handsets such as Yealink. Spliceom are made in England - a major plus when it comes to support. As the author rightly states, edu partners of splicecom are able to include Vision record and reporting at no extra cost.

Obviously there is a substantial difference between budgets for 30 SFP against SFP+. For SFP+ you could look at the Aruba 3810, HPE's 5900 range or Brocade's ICX 7700 range.

From what I know, added to what I've heard, Smoothwall is the better filter for sure but the reporting required to meet KCSIE and Prevent guidelines puts the Sonicwall & Fastvue product ahead. Added to this, the Sonicwall is a far superior firewall.

I presume it's a 2920 or 3810 if you've having to buy a stacking module. Can the reseller not get you a really good price on the stacking module? If it's the 2920, have you looked at the 2930 which stacks using a DAC?

You should look at Sonicwall's latest offerings. Their filtering complies with all of the latest requirements of KCSIE and the government's 'Prevent' initiative. Sonicwall will also be able to offer you a trade-up deal on your current unit I'm sure.

The 5700 is a great switch but be aware that it does not do Multicast routing. If you use any imaging softeware which uses Multicast then you should have something in the core which can perform this function. The 5700 was brought out as a port extender to the 5900 series and not really as a core switch.

Which switches are they? Some switches act as a 'virtual chassis', others while stacked, can't have aggregated links to them.

That makes it cheap but support can be a problem because you are not the registered owner of the switch. Low end switches can be fast but their life, typically, is short. Usually a 3 year life as opposed to 7+ with higher grade vendors. HP, Cisco, Brocade, Juniper etc are not cheap like some other manufacturers but they will still be there while others are being swapped out.

They should be able to act in the basis of the serial number/system if which you will find in the GUI
