Splicecom do a nice little ISDN SIP gateway. I presume you are going to SIP with the new system you mentioned? You could install this then run a mix of digital and VoIP until your new system is commissioned. You might also want to quote Franklin to your SLT -
There is a 60 free trial of IMC available. If you like it you can just buy the licence from a VAR then keep using it so you only have to set it up once. It is a very capable piece of software. It can manage a lot of non HP kit too. Just make sure that you can set the SNMP strings in your switches for IMC to discover them correctly. I might be a little late to the party. Are the physical units close enough together to use DACs? Might save you even more money than compatible modules.

The JG921A - 1920 8G-POE+ 65w has a POE budget of a little over 8w per port and will be around £160 from genuine UK suppliers. The 180w version (22w per port) is nearer £200.

There's so much more it it than listed port speed. What about switching speed, uplink ports, port buffers etc etc. I'm sure you could still find the data sheets on the old 3com switches and compare to a 2530 or whatever. Consider the 1950 which is comware and can now have the CLI unlocked if that's something you like.

If you look at the cable coming out of the back of the patch panel (not the patch leads) it will probably have some writing on it. With it being 4/5 years old, it could be OM1,2 or 3. Hopefully OM3. If it has a part number, you can google it. OM3 is good for 10G up to 300m whereas OM1 is only 33M unless you use very expensive LRMs.

What grade of fibre do you have linking back to your core switch? Can you add a 10G uplink?

Have a look at HPs 2920 with 10g modules. Excellent as iscsi switch with big packet buffers.

I don't know that switch but would suggest packet buffer size might be the issue.

Probably cached credentials on the client. It will reautgenticate itself. -
Don't forget Sonicwall. What is your internet pipe? You should look at the spec of any device with all of the UTM features switched on - sometimes quoted as AV throughput and match this to your pipe speed or exceed it if budget allows. Firewall max throughput rates are slightly irrelevant. If you do look at the Forti range, I wouldn't look below the 200D as they have the separate processors for CPU and network processing. Its AV Throughput is 600M.

I've only had a quick look at the spec sheets but if the stacking is one of the main attractions, I see no mention of it. The fact that they have SFP+ ports doesn't mean that they stack, at least not like HPs 2920 for example.

Depending on how long it's been out of support, you might like to try to get it back on again. There will be a backdate fee but it may not go all the way back. -
There are many variants of the 2530, 16 in fact. The J9853/4/5/6A have 2 x SFP+ ports, the rest have 2 x SFP

Even the 1820 would compete favourably with the Netgear. Remember that the Comware range was bought from 3Com so are datacentre grade switches. It's not like HP have invented a new CLI for them.

Mr Ben is not quite right though his sentiment is. The first 5406 was 4:1 blocking on the 10g ports whereas the second release was only 2:1. The most recent R ZL is wire speed. As I have suggested before, the compare 5800 series is a great core switch and has been deployed in many schools. It has 4 x SFP+ ports on the front and can take another 4 port module in the rear. When considering its IRF functionality, compatibility with 3rd party optics etc etc, it makes it hard to beat for the money and carries a lifetime warranty. HTH

The Aruba IAP is worth considering. Your numbers suggest that you might be a Primary in which case Fortinet (previously Meru) still have their primary bundles which offer outstanding value.

I believe the document has been misinterpreted. The 5800 is classed as and access layer switch which can perform core routing (and very well too!), thus it can stack 9 high. Something like the 5900, 7500, 12500 being core routing switches will only IRF to 4.

The 5800 will stack (IRF) up to 9. I presume resiliency is one of the attractions you've been made aware of with the virtual chassis. The 54xx good as it is, still has a single backplane.
